Today marks the 25th anniversary of Wrestlemania X.
March 20, 1994. Madison Square Garden.
While a good portion of the show may only be worth revisiting for nostalgia alone, it is still one of my favorite events of all-time. Bret versus Owen. The legendary ladder match. Bret regaining his belt to close the show. It was also the first non-Hogan Wrestlemania and truly ushered in the New Genertaion era.
Thoughts about the show? Did Adam Bomb get the shaft? Who would've won the 10-man tag? Anybody else just feeling old as hell?

Still a solid event that holds up 25 years later. Bret/Owen in my book is the best Mania opener ever, The classic ladder match, the 1st PPV called by Vince/Lawler who I thought were underrated as a team,Savage getting a win over Crush in his last Mania in a decent outing plus Bret winning the belt at the end were highlights for me.
I'm an Earthquake fan but man I hated seeing Adam Bomb squashed considering like I said in his retrospective entry I thought he had potential as a heel.
As far as No Hogan on this show it felt weird considering here we are at the first milestone Mania in MSG of all places and he's nowhere to be seen. You could definitely tell we were in a new era.
I also gotta add this...This was the first Mania without The Brain I remember feeling gutted.

I enjoyed this PPV a lot. I was in Grade 8 when this PPV happened, and I remember I couldn't see it, but my friend Marion was watching it. So I called her and asked her who was winning each match all night ha ha ha
But there are some things that could have been different to make this event much better.
Steiners vs. Quebecers for the Tag Titles is one that really sticks out

My favorite WrestleMania of all-time. Bret vs. Owen, Luger vs. Yoko, Shawn vs. Razor & Bret vs. Yoko are all awesome. I too wish the Steiners woulda been in the tag spot. Sucks the 10-man wasn't on there.

Agreed, I wonder if they thought about him being a special ref for one of the Main Event matches but then decided against it because they wouldn't won't the top guy from the previous era to be around when they are trying to push the new era. Was Brain with WCW yet? If not, it would have been great to see him at this event, even if he called just one match. I enjoyed this PPV a lot. Steiners vs. Quebecers for the Tag Titles is one that really sticks out Most definitely, the Steiner's were grossly misused during their WWF run, I felt they should have gotten the LOD treatment and ran roughshod over the tag team division until a worthy tag team came along to challenge them.

Adam Bomb honestly went as far as he was supposed to. He had potential but really didn't have an it factor. The gimmick was probably better than the performer. He was the S.D. Jones of that WrestleMania and the writing was on the wall for him, maybe even at Survivor Series when he got pinned by Marty Jannetty.
I think the tag team 10 man match happened on a Raw a week or two later. The heels won but I think the faces would have won at WrestleMania if the Bret post match celebration had been planned.

Maybe not objectively the *best* Mania of all-time but my personal favorite. My peak of wrestling fandom as a kid (I was 10), Bret Hart was/is my absolute favorite and there are two five-star matches on the show (which culminates in my guy's crowning moment). Just awesome.
To this day I never forget that March 20 is my friend's birthday because it was the same day as Wrestlemania X.

Not a bad mania. Randy Savages last wrestling match in the company before he left in December. I liked the Bret/Owen match and I didn't mind the Luger/Yoko match, even though it was boring. LOL. Highlight was Burt Reynolds stealing Rhonda Shear from HBK. Side note, she's 64 and still looks good! Thank jebus for plastic surgery! The main event was decent but had the WORSE ending since Mania 9. Really? Yoko slipped off the top rope? At least have Hart move out of the way and Yoko land on his fat ass and Hart could have used some kind of high flying move to pin him. Piper as the ref was a nice touch. All in all, a good mania. I also think M.O.M should have won the tag titles. A count out? They looked stupid letting that happen.

This way when Bret won at the end of the night the overwhelming majority of fans were happy. Also, I wonder if this was a way to put an end to the Bret/Yoko feud. A lot of fans wanted a rematch since Bret was screwed out of the title at WM9 and they kind-of continued the feud in 1993 with Bret wrestling Yoko a few times but always coming up short winning the title, having that match at the end could have been a way to end there feud so it didn't have to continue after WM10.

True! and i know everyone was assuming it was gonna be bret vs lex so they went with the surprise yoko win. but man, that woulda been a SWEET ending to the Biggest card of the year! not only that, the ref's coulda been switched then with piper reffing the lex/yoko match and mr perfect reffing the bret vs lex match. just after his music comes on and he walks down, they could show a small vignette with him saying how he remembers lex cheating to beat him last year and he still owes bret not once but twice, kinda teasing he could/would possibly screw either one of them. then, in the end, he kinda screws lex and starts that fued back up, with bret getting the belt still. In my perfect world, pun intended, bret gets screwed, lex wins the belt. mr perfect beats lex for belt at either king of ring or summerslam94.

In my perfect world, pun intended, bret gets screwed, lex wins the belt. mr perfect beats lex for belt at either king of ring or summerslam94. Not sure that would work, if Perfect screws Lex to give Bret the title that would draw some heat on Bret which wouldn't be good since he is a baby face champion (unless they turn Bret heel, which I'm not sure they would do as he and Taker were clearly the crowd favorites and in a time when ratings were down they may not want to risk giving up a popular face). The only way I could see the screw job working that way, with Bret not taking the hit, would be for it to look like Perfect didn't actually screw him (Lex's feet were on the ropes but Perfect couldn't see it - like WM9) then have Lex turn heel either that night or on a following Raw (turn him back to the narcissist or let him be the total package again, since the USA gimmick wasn't getting him over enough to be the face of the company). Then have Bret feud with Owen till the Summer like planned (and, was actually a great feud) and have Perfect and Lex feud all the way till Summer Slam (with them having a match), then have Bret and Lex feud after Summer Slam with Luger winning the belt at Survivor Series 94 (instead of Backlund, the feud was good but not sure it was needed, and they killed it quickly by having Diesel beat Backlund in 8 seconds). Then you could either have Bret return at the rumble to face Luger in a rematch or have Diesel face luger at the Rumble. I would prefer have Diesel face Lex at the Rumble and have Shawn cost him the belt to set up a match at Mania between Shawn and Diesel. Then have Bret return in the rumble, win it outright, and then we have Bret vs. Lex at WM11 for the title. Depending on how ratings were at the time, either Bret wins the belt and they begin the Bret v Shawn build for Mania 12, or Lex keeps the title and faces Diesel at KOTR 95 with Diesel winning the belt. If Diesel wins the belt, he can drop it to Bret before WM12, maybe at the Rumble, have Shawn win the Rumble match and you still have Bret vs Shawn at WM12. Personally I think heel Luger was more believable as Champion than USA Lex would have been. Plus you can add Ted DiBiase as his manager. Just a thought. Also, having Lex heel again, we could finally get the feud they were starting in 1993 when Luger knocked Bret out at the WM9 brunch (or lunch).

Oh wow! I loved that show when I was a kid. The fact they had two venues for that show was neat too.
