May 8th 2007, Edge had made history. The Rated R Superstar had cashed in on the vulnerable and defeated Undertaker. The Rated R Superstar is once again World Heavy Weight Champion. Edge has made a huge high profile jump to SmackDown, and is making waves with Batista. Batista who had his draw with Taker, by nature has become Edge's 1# contender. The Animal showed great signs of upstaging SmackDown's newest star at Judgment Day 2007, but Edge would defeat Batista in the same nature.
Batista would still find himself into a new chance with Teddy Long becoming annoyed by Edge's antics. The cat and mouse game would play, and the mind games with Batista would drag on. Edge would continue to get the best of the animal, but a Steel Cage held Edge's fate. Edge would escape Batista at One Night Stand 2007. Batista continued to be fed up, promised the fans to finish the job. Batista had one more shot, at Vengeance 2007. Batista would rack up victories on Edge finally closing in on the Rated R Superstar. But, the fear of defeat would play on Batista's mind. Edge would get the win with a Spear out of nowhere.
Edge would embrace his three straight victories embracing a New Orleans crowd. Although, the show would be crashed by Chris Beniot. Beniot who has grown sick of the person Edge's become, and alluded to the Edge he knew in 2004. Beniot would see Edge the farthest thing from a champion, and would seem to point that out. Beniot's statements would only catch himself in cheap attacks by Edge. The two Canadians would tear the roof down at the 2007 Great American Bash. Edge would take the victory.
Edge would defeat Beniot in a rematch the following Friday. Edge had in intentions in finishing off Beniot, only for Kane to make a nerve racking save. Kane would destroy the Rated R Superstar limb from limb. Kane had taken out Mark Henry to avenge his brother, and Kane was ready to finish off the man who capitalized off Undertaker's state. Edge would assemble many superstars to take Kane out, with a bounty. A lumberjack match was set for Summer Slam 2007, only for it to end in no contest. The match ended in utter chaos with Kane destroying many of the lumberjacks and slamming Edge through part of the set.
Edge would petition the WWE, and it would only create more issues. Teddy Long would book Edge taking on Kane in a Street Fight at Unforgiven 2007. Long would make this fateful decision, only to be fired from power for sanctioning these actions of Kane. With chaos spilling over, Edge and Kane acted freely. Even with the McMahon's watching over, the rules were off the table. Edge and Kane would insure to make eachothers lives a living hell. Edge would manage to defeat Kane with help of Edge's doppleganger at Unforgiven 2007.
Vickie Guerrero was instilled as the new general manager of SmackDown. Vickie Guerrero would launch a investigation over the Edge lookalike. Kane would raise hell destroying everything on SmackDown. Only for Chris Beniot to return, and add new elements to the chaos. Beniot and Kane would fight to no contest for a right to go to No Mercy 2007. Edge would play his two rivals off of eachother. Edge would even benefit out of this. Edge would once again escape at No Mercy 2007.
Edge would continue to disrespect to Vickie Guerrero, and demand Kane to be out of the title hunt at all costs. Only for Vickie to directly go against Edge's words and give Beniot and Kane both chances in a beat the clock. Edge would try to stop Kane in the end, but Beniot would aide Kane just in hopes of getting back at Edge. Kane would get inside the head of Edge, and Vickie would top things off with a Buried Alive match at Cyber Sunday. Edge would fear for his life, but in the end would defeat Kane. This time it was by another Edge lookalike.
Edge would continue to be questioned by Guerrero. Only for Edge to nearly assault Guerrero, only for Ric Flair to come out and save Guerrero from Edge. Flair would defeat Edge later in the night. Flair with a renewed purpose would truly invoke fear into Edge remaining champion. The old veteran has seen a fire we never seen before. Edge would defeat Flair at Survivor Series 2007, eventually dissecting Flair in the end. Setting the stage for McMahon setting up the terms of Flair's career.
It was now time to end 2007, and The Undertaker was back. The deadman had set his sights on Edge, but Taker had unfinished business with Batista. The Undertaker would try to ignore Batista, only for Batista to make Undertaker change his mind upon that. Kane also had returned for Edge, and put Edge and Batista in weird union against the brothers of destruction. Tie in Chris Beniot sticking his nose into this whole scene saw Vickie Guerrero create a Fatal 5 Way for the World Heavyweight Championship at Armageddon 2007. Edge would walk out as Champion with Vickie Guerrero's turn and the reveal of the Edgeheads.
Edge would defeat Rey Mysterio at Royal Rumble 2008 and No Way Out 2008 in the same fashion and story in our reality.
The Undertaker would end the era of Rated R with the same story defeating Edge at WrestleMania 24.
