Has there ever been talk of plans for Shawn had he not forfeited the IC strap that night?
Was Douglas really booked to win it? I could have never seen that happening with how over Shawn was and how hard they seemed to be pushing him, but I've always heard that was the plan.
I always wondered if they would have kept the IC strap on him and done title Vs. title at WM12. Would have been an interesting situation perhaps.

I gotta think no matter what, his feud with Douglas was the end of him in the IC ranks. The plan all along was for him to win the Rumble in 96 and then World Title at WM XII.
By that point he was way past that title so it was for the best that they put it on Douglas for the short term as during that time period his ''Dean'' gimmick was getting some good heat.

So this is the story about HBK losing the IC Title to Dean Douglas
When Shane Douglas entered the WWE, he was put into a program with Razor Ramon and beat him on WWF Superstars in September. So Vince was high on Douglas. I believe it was at THAT show later on that night, when all the wrestlers were at the hotel, HBK invited Douglas up to his hotel room to hang with him, Nash, Razor, Triple H and the 123 Kid.
Dean Douglas did go and hung out with them. For HBK had invited Dean Douglas into the Kliq. He had plans to drop the belt to Douglas and everything. But Dean Douglas didn't like how the Kliq was, so he declined, thus sabotaging his WWE career.
The word is that HBK didn't get beat up by THAT many people, and some say it was even a story line so HBK wouldn't have to lay it down for Douglas at the IYH PPV. So instead, HBK gave up the IC Title to Douglas, and they made sure that didn't last long, so they had Razor beat Douglas that same night.
Dean Douglas screwed himself out of having a pretty great WWE career, just because he declined the offer to be in with The Kliq.
So HBK was always set to lose the IC Title in October.

Big Mistake on Douglas part declining The Kliq. EVERY SINGLE MEMBER went onto big things....Douglas would have been no exception. Particularly when Hall, Nash & then Waltman took off...He would have been made.

Good insights, so that's pretty much what I've heard all these years too that it was planned to go that way. Never heard that Douglas was invited into the Kliq though. I thought he was over as a heel too, a lot of guys around then were killed by the Kliq that could have done a lot to help the company out during the hard times back then.
I thought Adam Bomb was the coolest, and Bam Bam seemed to be onto big things too before the brakes were put on and then they just left.

Have to say him collapsing in the ring against Owen was a great storyline. With the story being public knowledge that he’d been beaten up, it was one of the few times that WWF got it 100% right. Too often mixing reality into the storylines ends up a pile of nonsense

I can see Shane getting a good push during the Attitude Era, definitely shedding the Dean Douglas character during an in ring promo. Much like Jeff Jarrett's 1997 return promo, but better.
Kliq or no kliq, Adam Bomb and Pierre were going nowhere. Adam Bomb's fate was sealed very early on in his WWF career and he went as far as he could as a heel and as a face. I'm glad Pierre has found success as CPO but he was with WWF multiple times and with WCW and outside a good push as Quebeccer Pierre (pretty much because there was so little tag team talent at the time) he didn't do too much noteworthy. As a kid, I wanted to see Shawn Michaels, Razor Ramon, Diesel and 123 Kid on a card.

The Adam Bomb talk on here, I will say this. Apparently Vince did have plans for Bomb, but he just wasn't ready. He was maybe four years into his career at the time, so he was still pretty green for things. His most noticeable thing was being on Starrcade 91 as a replacement person, and his few years in Smoky Mountain Wrestling.
Nash said that it was the Kliq that stopped Bomb from using the powerbomb. HBK said to him, "Bomb, the powerbomb you do? Not anymore. It's Diesel's now." And that was that. Vince went with Diesel as the next big man.

That was common back then, usually if one person had a finishing move no one else was allowed to use the maneuver - as a finisher or even in a match. When the Warlord became a singles competitor his finisher was the over the shoulder running powerslam. But when Davey Boy returned to the WWF in late 1990, Davey used the running powerslam (which he used previously with the British Bulldogs) and the Warlord started using the full nelson. Same thing with Arn Anderson, he did the DDT in NWA/WCW but when he was in the WWF the DDT belonged to Jake so Arn never used it (he used the spinebuster). The thought process was if it was someone's signature move no one else should have it and if someone used someone else's finisher during the match and it didn't pin the opponent then it wouldn't make sense when it did, for instance if Arn used the DDT during a match and it didn't pin the guy it would look odd that Jake's DDT would. However, there were a few times that wrestlers used the same finishing maneuver, ironically one of those times was powerbomb. When Sid returned in 1995 as Shawn's new bodyguard he used the powerbomb. I think they even had a match to see who's powerbomb was more effective. With that being said, the powerbomb would have made a lot of sense for Adam Bomb. They could have done the sit-out (or sit-down) powerbomb for Adam Bomb to make it a little different than Diesel's.

He would have found a different excuse not to drop the IC title to Shane.
