Pathetic, just pathetic. Im a big fan of Mustafa from his 205 days and would love to see him do well on the main roster.

His name sucks now. Can never be a main eventer with just the name Ali.

i'd imagine this has more of a marketing/branding reasoning behind it, but you'd think two names would be easier to run with than one common name.

This is stupid. Way to dehumanize your characters. There is no reason whatsoever for this. This one is probably the worst one yet.

Seriously this is just stupid. There are some cases where it works, like Big E, or Elias. But something like this, or or dropping the Cien Almas from Andrade's name.

There’s honestly a very big reason about having a last name and that’s why some people get mad when they strip away a portion of a wrestlers name. I forget what the reason was but I know it had something to do with it removing a person’s identity as a being. Almost having a single name makes you into a brand or a label more than a person.
They’re removing their identities as wrestlers and people by shortening their names and instead simply making them brands. Ali is a brand. Mustafa Ali is a person.

It's amazing how little they think of their audience. I just don't understand their corporate branding at all.

Your new undisputed unified SDL tag team champions of the world "Andrade Ali." They are only half the men they used to be, emasculated by creative but together they can be whole again.

List of name shortenings
Antonio Cesaro Big E Langston
Alexander Rusev Elias Samson
Luke Harper
Erick Rowan Otis Dozovic Tucker Knight Andrade Cien Almas
Mustafa Ali
You would think with Search Engine Optimization, some of these things will not work. If you search Rowan, youd get results about trees. If you search Ali, you would get results about Muhammad Ali or that Will Smith movie.

Why did this BS become a trend in WWE? It's getting out of hand now...
It was good for guys like "Cesaro" "Elias" "Rusev" It's stupid for guys like "Harper" "Rowan" "Andrade" "Otis" "Tucker" "Ali"
Seriously, it's so F*N stupid... The debut these guys with unique and interesting names, then just strip away their identities and try to make them a new version of the same person. "Mustafa Ali" had a ring to it that people got behind, everyone knows him as "Mustafa Ali" so why now just go a stick him as "Ali" after everyone has become familiar with him.
Also, they keep removing the good names now, why? First they remove "Cien Almas" which was a unique name that could have been a good brand for him, it's what everyone referred to him as and it was basically his identity. Yet they remove that and keep his least known name, his least catchy and unique name and his most boring name - "Andrade" Now they remove "Mustafa" which would have been a much better name to keep over Ali, you already have a notable athlete under the name "Ali" - obviously Muhammad Ali, so how do they expect to promote and sell the name Ali when it's largely associated with the Boxer?
In the end, there's not point trying to fight it. WWE will do whatever they want, expect us to like it, shove it down our throat and we'll have to live with it. The fact that people still call them "Luke Harper" "Erick Rowan" "CIEN ALMAS" & will still call him "Mustafa Ali" says a lot about how good these name changes are.
Post-WrestleMania we'll probably have the following - Aleister Black - Baron Corbin - Buddy Murphy - Johnny Gargano - Kevin Owens - Becky Lynch - Sasha Banks

If they were so desperate to shorten it, doesn’t at least Mustafa sound a bit more unique? I feel like I could imagine a ring announcer saying it with more energy.
