Now we need a list of everyone's least (or most hated announcer(s)). Michael Cole
Mark Madden
Dick Graham- He called old Spectrum shows here in Philly on Prism. Man was he terrible.
Kal Rudman- Like Dick Graham, was a Philly mainstay
David Crockett- I can appreciate his real emotion but I still was never a fan
Rob Bartlett
Mongo
Craig Degeorge
These come to mind right away

Definitely have to agree with your top two choices, Mark Madden was god awful. Can't believe that someone in WCW thought that he was the way to go over Bobby Heenan. Shows you why they folded not to long after. I'd probably add JBL to your list, he was annoying to listen to. He was supposed to be the heel announcer and he would jump back and forth between allegiances. He would often bury the heel and promote the face. Just bad.

I always enjoyed listening to Lance Russell. Him and Dave Brown were great together. Very underrated. Dave always seemed bland to me. As for your hate list, Mike Adamle not knowing who anyone was annoyed me. Da Pope and Don West were on my list of terrible announcers.

One of the biggest miscarriages of justice in history replacing Heenan with him.

Michael Cole was a big fan before becoming a commentator and I respect that but never really cared for his commentary. Going from pretty much any commentator to being replaced by Michael, IMO makes the show go from a sporting event to watching a wrestling show and your dad or a friend's dad is doing commentary.
Craig DeGeorge I thought was better than most people probably think he is but some times he just seemed so lost. More so if a heel adlibbed on him. Jim Neidhart specifically adlibbed an interview around March 1987 and Craig had no clue where to take it.
I liked Mike Adamle on American Gladiators and I do believe he cared about the product with WWE but I think the timing was wrong. If he had been around 10-15 years prior with the product pretty much selling itself and no internet he would've had more time to learn wrestling and the wrestlers. Instead the internet ridiculed him and WWE had to rush a silly general manager storyline.

Dusty was funny in mid 90's WCW.
Alfred Hayes just a soft spot for me, always enjoyed his accent and bumbling, and just from that special time of the WWF.
Todd Pettinggail, sorta the same.
Also like Tony Shivany's short WWF run thought he was good with Jesse.

Didn't really care for Pettengill, he seemed corny. I have mixed feelings about Schiavone, he was good at time and bad at times. I really did not like him at SummerSlam 89, he over announced a lot of moves like when Hogan slammed Zeus and Liz hit Sheri with the purse. However, I thought he did a much better job at Royal Rumble 90.

Alfred at first I was like ehh but over the years I really started enjoying his commentary. He was best with Gorilla IMO.
Pettengill I only heard do commentary on the short lived Action Zone in the mid 90s with Vince and yeah didn't like em at all. He was fine in the hosting role but he just didn't have the talent in the booth.
For the most part I liked Schivone. He was best with Jesse in WWF and Bobby in WCW.

You know who would've made a great color commentator? Bob Eucker. I LOVED his brief stints he did at WM III and IV. He was entertaining as hell during that battle royal.

Matt Striker was undeterred. I know he's not considered "old school", but he deserves a mention

He should have gone on to do every wrestlemania possible, even if it was just a random backstage skit. Pete Rose, too. It seemed like he would have a long run at wrestlemanias but no. I'm not sure Bob was as big a fan as Regis Philbin but Bob definitely "got it" as some suggest. It was odd how WrestleMania would go one year with several celebrities, then the next year only one, if any and the next year have a few. I guess with a main event like Macho v. Hogan or Warrior v. Hogan you really don't want some "no-nothing" guest announcer ruin how awesome the main event will be by not knowing the wrestlers. Bob would have been a good replacement for Rona Barrett or Steve Allen or Sy Sperling.

The first name that came to mind was Ron Trongard! He was a no-nonsense announcer that was great for introducing non fans to the product and to wrestling in general. One of the best examples of him staying relevant and on task, but not ruining a contest is a match between Curt Hennig and Nick Bockwinkel from 87 for the AWA world title. The match ran the Broadway and Trongard had some outstanding lines in his commentary. Imagine calling a single match for a whole hour and still keeping things interesting. Also Bob Caudle deserves a special award for always being a decent man and likable announcer/host of the program.
