Not sure about ECW, but Vince reportedly paid $2.2M + legal costs for star contracts and the entire WCW tape library.

99 cents for ECW in the bargin bin at Wal-Mart. Actually I think it was something like 200 grand just to use the name ECW when all that was going down. Then they just canned ECW when courts and whatnot thought they were going to keep it going.

It did take the WWE a bit longer to get ECW's video library though. They got the letters E C W that summer for the Invasion angle, but I don't think it was until 2003 when they got the ECW video library. Thus why in 2004 we got to see so much ECW footage finally make it out on DVD. Like on the Benoit DVD, Foley DVD, the Rise & Fall of ECW DVD.

According to wikipedia: As a result, AOL Time Warner sold the trademark for WCW's name and logo to the WWF for $2.5 million, in 2001. Shortly after the purchase, Vince McMahon purchased the entire WCW videotape library for an additional $1.7 million, bringing the final tally of World Championship Wrestling's sale to $4.2 million.
Not sure about ECW. I thought that Vince invested in it in the late 90s which is why sometimes ECW appeared on WWF RAW.

Vince paid off the ECW assets which was in the neighborhood of 1.5 mill. During the Invasion angle, Paul Heyman gave the OK to WWF to use the ECW letters but he wasn't legally allowed to do so because he didn't own anything. Which is why they used The Alliance name.

He didn't buy WCW. He bought their assets. WCW's parent company is still running for legal reasons.
