So there's been a discovery on Reddit and Twitter. Not sure if anyone here is following it. Apparently Bret sent a lot of his old tapes to a woman to convert them into digital files. Earlier this week she tweeted out a photo of a tape labeled "Bret Hart vs Tom Maghee". She didn't have the VCR to view it yet but assured she'd update us nerds on of its legit. Today she tweeted this photo Seems legit. For those who don't know,Tom Magee was a Canadian strong man and freak athlete who decided to get involved in wrestling in the 80s. He had freakish strength and athleticism. Vince gave him a try out match with Bret and was so impressed that he was convinced Magee would be the next big star. Shortly after this it became apparent that Magee did not have a mind for wrestling, to say the least. Footage of his incredibly weak striking and overly fake grappling can be seen on YouTube. Vince was allegedly so angry that he ordered the footage be destroyed, or so we thought. It's gone down as a legendary tale of Bret Hart's ability to carry any worker, no matter how poor. This should be a must-watch for die hard fans.

Shouldn't this be in the classic-wrestling section?

Shouldn't this be in the classic-wrestling section? A fair point. My bad.

The woman in question, Mary Kate is a former ROH photographer who both Punk & Cabana (presumably Hero, Sapolsky & others) is very good friends with. Punk wrote her name on his wrist tape for her bday in WWE each year.. she's been "known" for years, odd to me she had this on tape?
So, is she who Bret sent it too then?

That's the gist of the story to my understanding. He sent her a good chunk of his personal tapes to convert them. I don't know why, but I'm of the understanding that that's the story.

I mean, Magee wrestled for the WWE for like 3-4 years so its not like he was just seen as a guy who walked off the streets and got into the ring. Im interested in seeing the match but I think he gets too much heat for being "bad" guy spent too much time in the company as well as All Japan to be THAT bad.

There's some All Japan stuff on YouTube. The crowd laughs at him. I think his time spent is from wishful thinking. He did have a lot of ability and seemingly a huge upside, if he developed.

You can all enjoy the sparkly, hyper homoeroticism that is Jim Helwig's Cocaine fits all you want, but he is a stain on the business and SO IS ALMOST EVERYONE OF THE SAME ILK! So don't ing bring up similar characters and act like I magically ing exempt them, when I DO GOD DAMNED NOT.

Magee was badly beaten up last year. Tom Magee suffered serious injuries after he was beaten by six men in a dispute over a parking spot yesterday. CBS Los Angeles reports that the dispute broke out near Magee’s Mar Vista home.

This is an old post, but I was looking for Bret's best WCW matches too. You should definitely see the following:
Bret Hart vs Randy Savage (at Slamboree) Bret Hart vs Booker T (Nitro 1/25/1999) Bret Hart vs Benoit (Owen Hart Tribute watch on Nitro) Bret Hart vs DDP (World War 3 and their 2 Nitro matches for US Title) Bret Hart vs Sting (Mayhem 1999) Bret Hart vs Benoit (Mayhem 1999) Bret Hart vs booker t (bash at the beach)
I have not seen his match with Curt Henning at WCW, but it should have been good as always. Bret had a match with Dean Malenko on Nitro. It was supposed to be a great match given that both are 2 of the best technical wrestlers, but Malenko injured Bret for real during the match. I also think that Bret did not like Malenko and both were unmotivated to have a great match. We are lucky that Bret jumped to WCW because I do not think we would have seen those matches if he had stayed in WWE. Randy never came back to WWE, Sting did not make his WWE debut until 2014 and Bret only had like 3 more years left as a wrestler. Let me know if you know of any other great matches!
