Who did Mike Tyson beat again? Who did he lose to? I think it's safe to say he is the most overrated boxer of all time. I wouldn't say he's overrated. You just have to look at the potential he had as a young fighter, just check the Spinks fight..that Mike Tyson would've probably destroyed any fighter. The problem with people saying Tyson being overrated is that you can't really point out any flaws when he was younger, even Ali was exploited by no name fighters. Mike Tyson had the potential to be the greatest fighter God had ever produced; Cus saw the potential, King and Givens destroyed it.

Tyson overrated? it's like saying Jordan, Mantle and Tiger are overrated. the instincs, talent and nature of the way Mike fights is brilliant. his power is a God given attribute. Floyd also has these elements but Tyson is/was much more gifted. one punch ko's Tyson produced are what every guy that ever laced 'em up wishes he had. even when considered "washed up" he devastated Golota, Botha, Savarese ect. overrated? maybe, but the power was real.

Mike Tyson in his prime would have been royally whooped by Muhammad Ali in his prime. Though Ali was a good fighter, I'd still give Tyson a chance, a pressure fighter who knew how to box well, was extremely fast, and could hit very hard would give a prime Ali problems and expliot Ali's flaws.

Tyson's leverage was his intimidation, Ali fought and whipped Sonny Liston's ass and he was the most feared boxer of that era.
While Tyson had strength, he lacked the savvy attributes, he wasn't a smart boxer and didn't have the best footwork.
Also, Ali was the most durable man ever to box, he would easily out last Tyson, he took punches form George Forman who was substantially stronger than Tyson and still was able to pull out a victory when most boxers would have fallen.
Tyson was nothing more than the product of Don King, a great promoter taking a young energetic kid and turning him into this unstoppable beast by having him box and beat nobody's.
He was only remembered for TWO fights.....
The one he lost to Buster Douglas and the one when he bit the ear off of Holyfield.

While Tyson had strength, he lacked the savvy attributes, he wasn't a smart boxer and didn't have the best footwork. Also, Ali was the most durable man ever to box, he would easily out last Tyson, he took punches form George Foreman who was substantially stronger than Tyson and still was able to pull out a victory when most boxers would have fallen. Mike Tyson was faster than Foreman, and anyone in boxing will tell you that 9/10 times, if you see a punch coming, you can take it. However when hit with a fast, hard punch that you don't see coming most times knocks you out. And to say that Tyson wasn't a very good boxer, watch him in one of his fights where he goes 12 rounds, and also check out Holyfield 2 when he lost his mouth guard, if you watch that one round, you will see that Tyson could've out boxed many boxers. Tyson was basically done as a fighter when he signed with Don King, and though Buster Douglas put on a great fight and deserved to win the title, had Tyson been with Cus and trained properly, it would've been a different outcome. Had Tyson faced a Cassius Clay, Tyson's speed, power, and accuracy would've been too much for a 20 year old Clay, remember that Cooper and Banks both dropped Clay and Tyson was far superior than them. I think Ali in his prime had flaws as well he didn't really know how to block properly, just watch as fighters connect with flush hooks to the face, from Frazier to Chuvalo, and with Tyson's speed and punching accuracy, combined with his power would give Ali a good fight. I'm not saying that Ali is not a great fighter, because he is perhaps the greatest, but every person has flaws, and Ali had many flaws and pressure and defensive fighters exploited them, and often people see the Mike Tyson that lost against Lewis, Douglas, and Holyfield and don't look at him before his years with Don King. I think that if Cus hadn't died, Tyson would've most likely reached his potential and become one of the greatest fighters, or Cus would've stopped him from fighting and he would have been remembered as a great fighter, and we would've been left to wonder what the outcome would have been if Mike had faced fighters past and present.

I mean there is a world of sports/entertainment outside of Monday Nights I completely understand that, but if you were a true fan of both sports, you wouldn't be asking the outcome of a fight in which one competitor has about 80 pounds on the other.

Ali vs. Tyson Ali would have to be in his absolute prime to win this fight. as was stated Clay couldnt have dealt with Mike and the Ali that fought Foreman would be in trouble, although durable the rope a dope wasn't invented for a fighter like Mike Tyson. to me Ali is the greatest of all time but it goes beyond boxing. as i said before if YOU were a fighter, you would want to have Tysons skills not Ali's skills. to be like Ali you need a strong mind, will, heart and belief. Tyson made it look easy, Ali had all battles of attrition.

Here, this is a countdown list comprised by ESPN showcasing the each of the greatest boxers of all time. ESPN has him at #50, and I think they were being a little liberal with that. sports.espn.go.com/sports/boxing/greatest/featureVideo?page=greatest4150Click on the video link, there is a montage of him fighting a bunch of nobody's. Look at how crappy these boxers were, they left themselves wide open to get punched, it had nothing to do with speed either, they were just really ****ty boxers that any average boxer like Tyson would have beat. Also, look at Tyson's footwork, it's sloppy, any half ass decent boxer would have beat him, and they did. I think people just bought into the hype, all the merchandising and talk was to make him appear indestructible. Tommy Gunn could have dominated the fighters he fought. As far as blaming Don King for ending Tyson's career Tyson had major psychological anger issues, Tyson ruined Tyson when he raped that girl. I can't believe anybody would idolize this guy.

Regardless of if Tyson was/is over-rated, he would still beat the living hell out of someone the size of Floyd Mayweather...

Remember though, ESPN is taking Tyson's whole career into perspective, and if you do that, I agree he should be ranked pretty low. However, when he was a young fighter Cus controlled those anger problems. Also that rape case, it was very biased, and it was a racial enviornment. And for nobody's leaving themselves open to punches, watch th emajority of Ali's fights and count how many hooks he is hit with, it's disgusting. Tyson as a young fighter had great potential, Cus created a great fighter, but when he died, Tyson had no one to control his anger, he had just basically lost his only father figure in life, so when someone throws all these women and money at you like Don King, it's pretty tempting. Watch Tyspn training with Rooney and Cus, and watch how he slips punches, moves around, his speed, and is power. I'm not saying Tyson is the G.O.A.T. I'm just saying he was capable of beating many fighters when he was younger, especially when Ali was a younger Cassius Clay.

Ali took shots to intimidate his opponents. He'd let them hit him with some of their best shots and laugh at them. It's a style thing and a psychological thing. He showed he can block when he wants to against the heavy punchers of his era like Frazier, Foreman and Patterson.
One thing you forget is the jab. Tyson was only any good when people let him in close, and Ali's whole game was to keep opponents at bay with his jab, wear them down and then come in strong.
I wouldn't write Tyson off in a fight between the two in their primes, it'd be tough, but I'd put smart money on Ali.

as many have said, the weight difference is grossly in tyson's favor.
if the two were the same weight, and skill wise, i believe that mayweather would get the duke.
