Hell, I would kill for a few low priced Retros. Just paid 77€/95$ for S9 shipped. Europe is such a poor place for collectors.

They said they need to relaunch with a new direction (might be paraphrasing that) and I think they're going to gear this relaunch of retros to the older market rather than trying to get both young and old which they did with the initial run not really getting either right
Even from a collector perspective did we really want an iron sheik or did we want a men on a mission, double j...even Max moon would've got better than sheik
Don't forget the initial Hasbro line had people like skinner who wasn't a top star in any sense but made for a cool figure

Hell, I want an Elite or a basic of him, but if I had my way, he'd go in the Reto line first. Imagine how colorful and crazy a wave with Max Moon, country music star gimmick Double J, Men on a Mission, USA Lex, Hart Foundation Anvil, Goldust, and Diesel would have looked on the pegs.

Why wouldn't collectors want an Iron Sheik Retro? That said, I see where you're going with this. There are 2 dozen figures most would have rather had made before that. We got 1 legend per line, which sucked, but I think a lot of collectors would have been disappointed no matter who they made.

I wonder how much the entire collection of Retros is worth. Roman Reigns is expensive but New Day rotted at Five Below I never found a single figure at retail of S5. At the big box or discount stores. It's so crazy how different things were in different areas. I stopped into my Target today to pick up an anniversary card and decided to check out the figures. There was one retro Goldberg left on the shelf. I'm HOPING that means a new case will hit the shelfs (8 please?) But I'm not holding my breath. The last time they got a new case in it was S3.

I bought the Macho Man and left New Day. I had already gotten them from Ringside at that point, but I'm kicking myself for not buying extras to keep moc. Maybe more retros will pop up at Five Below.

It doesn't fit with the timeline of hasbros leaving in 87 to return during the Hasbro era as col. mustafa so if anything his figure should have depicted that attire but that's not what he is best known for

For the record, I would absolutely buy a Col. Mustafa Retro.

The line has endless potential - no reason why they shouldn't make an Iron Sheik AND Col Mustafa as a repaint later. Would love to see characters we missed during the Hasbro era and also either side of it before and after. Once they've got the basic moulds made I'm sure people wouldn't be averse to different warrior attire like WM6 or RR91 - basically what they've done very well with legends throughout the main line but in Retro format ...

The Iron Shiek is probably my favorite Retro that Mattel made. However, I still have no clue how anyone looks at a Hasbro collection and sees the Iron Shiek as a missing piece.
I have a bit of faith that this line could come back. Maybe once the Masters of the Universe thing is done that is when they will strike again. Focus on people in their 30s. Kids are not into these things at all! Plug the holes that are missing from the Hasbro collection, Barbarian, Haku, Hart Foundation, Bad News Brown, Orient Express, Beverly Brothers and other characters from 90-95 that would fit right in.
While it sucks that the line is on hiatus the more I think about it the more it makes sense. If they had these and the Masters of the WWE Universe line out at the same time it could force people in their 30s like me to chose one line and ignore the other. that is why once this Masters line is done I can see them bringing this back again. I am very excited for the Masters line, but I can see why some people are not keen.
Also the more I think about it the more I think the Retro figures I have collected are cool. has the line been handled horrible? Yes, it has, but I am just going to enjoy what I have.

That would be close to a perfect Series for me! 8 figures, 90’s bright colours and some new characters to go nicely alongside the Hasbro’s. This is what I had pictured when the line started, then we got all those black attires at the start. I do think the line was starting to improve though and hopefully some of these guys happen at some point in the next couple of years if they can breathe life back into the line.

Nicely put and I love that list of figures that would fit right in! I think we’ve all had issues with the line from the start, no doubt because we are all huge fans and the idea of a ‘retro’ line was a dream come true for a lot of us, thus creating these huge expectations that haven’t quite been reached with the line. If this ‘hiatus’ results in them taking time out to have a deep look at the line and come back with some awesome line-ups and much improved distribution that we all talk about on here and other groups, then it makes complete sense.

I guess yes and no on the reuse of the mold. Mattel had Roman's mold and never reused it, still reasons unknown.

I think when these first came out the ideas and excitment of collectors old and new was endless. Only to be let down every time a series came out. I believe they were trying to make figures from the LJN era that never got a Hasbro. Like Sheik, JYD, and if the rumors are true then Ricky Steamboat was going to get one, and not in that ridiculous Dragon attire. I would have loved to see Hillbilly Jim as a retro, too.

Here's a thought...could the line have ever met expectations?
Look at past results:
Jakks did an Ljn style line people don't like cos they're not exactly like ljn figs
Young bucks released Ljn style figures, again a 50/50 reception at best
This retro line come out and whole people are moaning it's on hiatus let's be honest, reception to it was poor. "Too many jumpers", "roster picks are rubbish", plastic is different" are all criticisms I've seen a lot
Looks like people just can't recreate the feel, look and nostalgia of retro style figs today

A lot of people, myself included, critique a lot of Mattel's WWE figures, even Elites. We still buy them though.

The Young Bucks tag team was an excellent idea (and still is) but they definitely chose the wrong wrestlers. They should have done flashbacks. In 2019 every figure from every line will be criticized one way or another, as collectors we get that, I think. But it also seemed like the majority of people were unhappy with their choices for retros. Using the jumper mold was fine, but for certain figures it left us scratching our heads wondering what they were thinking. Such as both Sting figures as jumpers? Or 2 Stings and no Surfer Sting? Only 1 Flashback per series (after series 2)? No accessories (which were a huge part of Hasbros), no tag teams, no exclusives, flimsy card backings, 2 Kevin Owens but no flashback that would certainly sell like a new Bret Hart (just using him as an example). Compare any Retro to a moc Hasbro and they just seemed like the dollar store version. So yeah, they need to fix all of that, but shouldn't they have known this from the start? It's Mattel for fs.
