I’m sticking to my boycott of not buying any Mattel products until more Retros are announced. The “it’s complicated” reasoning is wearing off. There are many people capable of understanding complex issues and it is not as if trade secrets would be given away if more was said about it. Look, I know some of the team would like to say more about it and I would never ask them to risk their jobs to do so. What I am saying is that their boss or boss’ boss is doing a disservice to their customer base by going on a year without a single real update.

I'm following the boycott too. Hopefully the MOTU series dies off and there are no more mash-ups and they get back to producing retros. Unlimited potential if managed well. All they have to do is follow a similar approach to the main lines with a good coverage of classic characters in a variety of attires. Simple and repeatable.

I wouldn't call it a boycott, but i haven't been the least bit interested in wrestling merch since the retro line died.

Anyone got any pics of retros next to other toy lines of similar scale? I'm thinking about getting some Disney/Marvel/Toybox figures to use as Divas, or to make custom Divas. Black Widow is a decent base for a Becky Lynch, I think.

Its complicated is a nice way to say it didnt sell well and there was very little interest outside of hardcore collectors which isn't their main audience. Between how hard these warmed pegs and the poor distribution it was only a matter of time before the death bell rang and they moved on to a different venture (MOTU). Once again people forget their main buyers are children and they don't have any of the nostalgia that is required to care about retros and quite simply why would they pick up a retro instead of a basic they looks like and works with the rest of their figures?

AFA/Steve has said things to the contrary of what you are saying. I’m not going to waste my time combing back through over 100 pages to find it but it is there. So no, I don’t believe it is “a nice way of saying” anything. He very clearly made it sound as though there is still plenty of hope...but everything else (including some of the reasons you mentioned) feels as though more than enough time has passed for us to get an official update instead of insulting our intelligence. We found out in July that Retros were on hold and it is very likely that Mattel made the decision months prior to that.

Poor choices killed this line as well.Series 3 and 7 were very over produced and Sheamus? That awful HBK? The line was pretty much a 5 below exclusive with every series being widely available throughout their stores besides 1,2 and 6. Series 1 went on clearance at Wal-Mart causing most stores to never get series 2. Series 2 popped up heavily at Ollies/Marshalls/tj Maxx and series 6 was at Roses and heavily shipped to Australia. I would be surprised if the line comes back.

Hopefully it can be resurrected and good choices prevail. It seems pretty simple and just looking at the reactions to some of the collections that get displayed here, we all know what it looks like to capture the various eras very well. They could learn something from this lego ideas page: ideas.lego.com/projects/4a705350-892c-4525-b140-c33e468c3b87Just give us the characters we didn't get during the LJN and Hasbro eras, expand into WCW and the attitude era and then include some of the most marketable current stars if they absolutely must.

I don't have a problem with the lineups but I think series 3 killed this line. Distribution was spotty after that. I never saw half the series pop up in any stores and relied mostly on RSC for them.

Sadly due to distribution issues, I never saw series 9 in person. It's the only series I'm missing from my collection. Series 8 and 10 was littered in all the Five Belows in my area but that's about the only place to find them here.

Went to a Target yesterday that had the end of their Retros clearanced down to $2.98. They had one Ambrose and one Styles left. The cards were decent so even though I have them already, I picked them up to keep carded for now at less than $3 a piece.

Will Retro Series 9 &/or Series 10, due to low production numbers and not really in stores (except Five Below getting 2 cases of S10) end up as coveted as the original Hasbro Green series 20+ years down the line? I think this is a very good possibility.
I don't invest in figures, so I'm not trying to get them and wait 20 years to sell, I just think there's a few commonalities with the last set of Hasbro's and the last 2 sets of Mattel Retros.
Any previous talk about this type of thing? What do you guys think?

One thing that confuses me is there was originally the thought that NWO Savage was worth more, even going for $65 about a year ago. Why is Flair so valuable, though?

They released a ton more of series 5. That hasn’t happened (yet) with series 4. Series 4, particularly Flair, seems like the hardest figure to obtain other than Roman Reigns.
