If Mattel would do a Legends collector line with special packaging for $30.00 a piece and would show the proposed figure before making it so you could pre-order it would you do it? So let's say Mattel shows 12 prototypes a month like Eaglemoss and they said they had to sell at least 1,000 units to make it for collectors - if more buy it they make more per the order - then they can still throw it in as a short pack in the line with a slight alteration if they choose but at least collectors would have the shot would you do it?
So let's say you saw the year in advanced of:
January: Billy Superstar Graham February: Ivan Koloff March: Bruiser Brody April: Greg Valentine May: The Great Muta June: Nikita Koloff July: Bad News Brown August: Scott Steiner September: Rick Steiner October: Abdullah The Butcher November: Tony Atlas December: Rocky Johnson
I would pay for two a piece!
1. WOULD YOU PAY FOR ALL? 2. SOME? If so ... Who? 3. NONE.
PLEASE NOTE:
I know Mattel tried this early on with Andre the Giant and King Kong Bundy to some degree (when the line just started) but now the line has legs! Today Legends are short packed and like in the case of Harley Race it is going for $300.00 on ebay.

Matty Collector did this. It failed.
The reason the Legends sell now, is because they’re no longer going to be produced with the concussion lawsuit happening.

Triple S,
I noted they did it in the early going before people knew about Matty and did the line have legs coming off of a successful run of Jakks. Now is a different time and I am not sure the concussion lawsuit is still in play anymore is it?
And are you saying you would NOT buy any of those?

Any way to get legends figures is okay by me. I only ask they are made available for purchase online so as to guarantee the product.

I did with Matty Collectors. I bought at least two of all except for Bundy which I only purchased the one. But everyone who said they would support the line balked at the cost + shipping. Which ended up with Mattel saying it was a failure. The same thing would happen now. Because a shorter production line like that costs more because there’s less product to spread the cost across. And as much as I love the Legends line as you said they are short-packing them now, but I do feel if they went the Matty Collectors way again the price would scare many away just like the first time. Because for Mattel they feel if something doesn’t sellout within the first day it was a failure. Not only that with TRU closing down one of the first things Mattel got rid of to make up for that lost revenue was their online stores.

Of that list, I'd buy Muta.

But PJ would you buy those under the given scenario for that price point and if so which ones?

I'd buy January through December, so long as Koloff was 70s WWWF champion era and the Steiner Brothers were from their early 90s WCW/WWF tag team run and not their late 90s singles run. Never cared for Abdullah the Butcher or Tony Atlas or Rocky Johnson. I might buy a Saba Simba though. Each of these could come with a chase/variant figure (except for Bad News & Bruiser Brody, I don't think they varied their attire much); Superstar: Purple Attire/Green Attire, Koloff: 70s WWWF Champion/80 JCP Russians, Valentine: Late 80s traditional Black and Yellow attire/Early 80s IC Champion (or Rhythm and Blues), Muta: so many attires, could do the all white with red attire he wore vs Sting and the all red with black attire he mostly wore, Nikita: 80s JCP Russians/90s WCW Face, Steiner Brothers: WM9 attire/ survivor series 93 USA attire (or any other really like Muta they had a bunch to choose from), Abdullah: red pants/black pants, Tony Atlas: red trunks/blue trunks (or Saba Simba). Rocky Johnson: yellow trunks/purple trunks. You may sell more this way. Maybe a lot of people wouldn't buy most of these guys (probably with the exception of the Steiner Brothers) but the people who would buy them would probably buy the chase variant as well.

I'd buy them all! I wouldn't even mind the extra shipping to the UK...

But PJ would you buy those under the given scenario for that price point and if so which ones? I would buy at least three each of Graham & the Steiners. And two each of everyone else except Bad News Brown. I was never a fan of his. But are any of them signed to Legends deals? Mattel won’t go out and sign anyone anymore. Now they just go with who the WWE signs to a Legends deal.

PJ,
I think the supply and demand will help that ... so, for example, we know that they had Jeff Jarrett in a legends deal and Koko B Ware ... but they didn't choose to make it ... but if they were proposed and the money showed up .. I'm sure it would be worth exploring.

Mattel just made $3,720 in less than an hour. UPDATED! Just because I'm weird and mildly fascinated by the perception of money across varying demographics...that's 8/10,000,000 of their sales and revenue in 2018 ($5.1b).

SYE, Of course .... so let's poo poo it - you know what the odds are of winning the powerball? You should never play it ... my friend did and won. These things start somewhere and where better than a WWE Mattel action figure forum for those who like these figures? ... if you poo poo it ... you reap what you sow. If collectors speak their mind and are willing to put up the money to secure their figures you never know. Even if you took the mksavage idea about changing it up slightly making it more valuable to the collector ... then offer the alternative in the regular line and short pack it ... it gives them the numbers they need. Like the Shelton Benjamin figure.

Now is a different time and I am not sure the concussion lawsuit is still in play anymore is it? And are you saying you would NOT buy any of those? The line did not have legs whatsoever and people were well aware of Matty Collector. The line failed because there wasn’t enough interest in it. Yes, the lawsuit is still in play. It’s why we’ll probably never see a list of figures and/or figures re-released or repaints. I’d buy figures, of course. My point is, this isn’t a fathomable idea. It’s like fantasy booking. Wishful thinking, if you will.

The lawsuit (at least, the one I'm most recently familiar with) was tossed out, but that alone =/= repaired relationships between talent involved and the organization.

I should also have qualified that Muta would be the one figure I had interest in. No way would I spend $30 on it, especially in a 'readily available' scenario such as this. Of my total collection, I think I've paid full retail price for three figures - one because I had a gift card so I was basically spending someone else's money, and two because of scenarios in which the likelihood of me having another chance at a lower price was a massive unlikelihood.

Triple S, I respectfully disagree with you on a multitude of fronts. 1. The Matty line was not well known back then. 2. I think for many people collecting the WWE line had a hard time buying that Andre the Giant (one of the most popular characters of all time) would not be available in another assortment - and that was, in fact, the case. 3. The lawsuit is not a forever thing ... in fact some heard it was done. The one thing with McMahon is NEVER say NEVER because he has proven that over and over and over again. Nobody thought Chynna would ever be in the Hall of Fame right here on this board. Never say never. 4. The fantasy is kind of why a lot of us are here to have a wish list, to talk WWE mattel action figures ... and the ones we want ... not to be told it will never happen. Said about Bob Backlund, Harley Race and others.
