I've seen this year get a lot of hate around here. I stopped watching at the end of 2002 so going through this year now on the Network it's like it's brand new to me. I am currently in the middle of Feb, a week removed from Goldust being electrocuted. I have to be honest, I am really enjoying these shows more than almost any wrestling I've watched in the past year and a half to 2 years (sans NXT Takeover's and Mania 35)
I'd be curious on thoughts regarding Raw in 2003, either why you did or did not enjoy the show at the time. I know a lot of the hate is going to come from Triple H running the main event...but as a Trips fan...I'm okay with him being champ at this time.

there was good and bad. even the biggest triple h fans have to admit he ran himself dry with oversaturation of raw. the old 20 minute triple h promo to start raw finished with a 6 man tag with evolution got tiresome pretty quickly.
that said, booker, flair, RVD and even bubba and several others were killing it.
I remember enjoying it all but feeling like there was a hole in the ship of the once indomitable wrestling industry that it was from 1998-2002

My problem with Raw in 2003 is mainly that there was no IC Title from January - May. Thankfully they brought it back to be used, and I am not sure what the purpose of having only the World Title and World Tag Titles be on Raw from October 2002 - May 2003 was.
I didn't care that Triple H was World Champion, because looking back at that year, who else would be?? Not Scott Steiner, not Booker T, and not even Kevin Nash. Actually.... Triple H destroyed WCW that year. Steiner, Booker, Nash and Goldberg. All got pinned by Triple H from January - August.
I thought that Raw got better in 2004 when Chris Benoit jumped ship to Raw from Smackdown. Benoit really helped add much needed wrestling and star power to Raw.

Raw in 2003 was pretty much HHH's Reign of Terror. Heyman was booking Smackdown at the time and making it the A show.

Every time I think of Raw from 03 I think of the Kane going insane after unmasking angle they ran that Summer. I remember being invested in seeing what he would do next from week to week.

I heard the reason they didn't have the IC belt then was because they needed to get a new one made. It still had the WWF logo on it.

I hated Raw in 2003! Triple H hogging the world title while making others look bad, Goldberg coming in and being just another guy, The Kane vs Shane McMahon feud, Bad Blood 2003, and the UnAmericans. There are things from smackdown I hated that year, but that's another thread.

I call bull on that. There is no way it would have taken then 7 months to get a new IC Title made and brought back
What I heard, was that Triple H wanted to be the only Champion on Raw. All I know is that it really stopped guys like Test, Jeff Hardy, Christian, RVD and others a shot at being a champion and having a good mid-card feud for that IC Title during that time frame.

2003 Raw was a mixed bag. It reminds me of mid 90s Nitro. Didn't care for the main event but the undercard was pretty good. Triple H's booking was unbearable. If you look at the Booker angle it acts like the perfect sample. No issue with a heel winning at times but it got pretty ridiculous. He dominated Booker in the build and beat Booker pretty definitively at WrestleMania. Booker barely got any comeuppance on Triple H. I also hate when you get a cowardly heel who also happens to be a brick craphouse. It doesn't work for me. Triple H has always been about excess. If you look at his character through the years you can see a mix of several hot things put into one. He has to have his fingers in all the pies. Harley Race's mustache, Ric Flair's suits. Wants to be an old school cowardly heel but also wants to be a badass. He's been Terminator, Conan the Barbarian, Vince and now Mad Max. Gets the grandest entrances and music. Hell, he's even been Jack Nicholson from A Few Good Men. It all reeks of insecurity to me.

People always bring up Triple H vs Booker T and Hunter burying him, but I honestly feel Rock saying “Who the Hell are you” on his debut or Austin totally destroying him in the grocery store were 100x worse for Booker T than his feud with Triple H.

Ehhh I don't agree there, as in spite of those things he still managed to get to the main event against Triple H. I used to defend that match and thought it wasn't so bad. The ending is dreadful though. A regular pedigree where Booker had to sell for what feels like an eternity. Booker got mocked by bigger stars with Rock and Austin, but Triple H buried him in the ring. It took him quite a while to recover from that.

I don’t think it took him any longer to recover from that than it did from the other two, but people like to say it was worse than it was because it was Triple H. If the match Booker had was vs Rock or Austin instead of HHH people would have been fine with it.

Selling a pedigree for 23 seconds or however would be just as ridiculous to me as selling the stunner or rock bottom for that long. Booker wouldn't touch a main event title match again until against JBL almost 2 years later. You are right though, if it wasn't Triple H I bet a lot of people wouldn't care.
