Man, this is a tough choice. I used to love King of the Ring! Macho King Randy Savage was such a huge part of my childhood, but I think I have to give the edge to Owen Hart. he really embraced being the King of the Ring (just like Savage did) and made it part of his character. I would also have to give an honorable mention to King Booker as he was awesome too. Owen Hart Randy Savage Booker T That is my top three Also, i really do not understand why this has not been brought back, even if it was just a network special.

Austin ing 3:16 makes this very one sided.

Austin bc it was the boiling point for his career. After that there was a rocket strapped to his back and he was headed to the top. That's revisionist history. He didnt even get a t shirt until months later. He kind of floundered for a bit before picking up steam again Bret like 6 months later. And thus nothing changed from my original post.

Austin gave the 3:16 speech because reborn Jake was quoting the Bible in 96. Really had nothing to do with King of the Ring other than he won and had the platform for the promo. I’d argue he gives that promo with or without KOtR. Austin didn’t even get over for another like 8 months. It’s a revisionist moment in documentary history. Not one that was a big deal at the time.
I’d say Macho King and Owen are the best KotRs by a country mile.

I went with Kurt Angle. It was the win that really made you stand up and realise this goofy milk drinker was gonna be a WWE Champion. Obviously he won it 5 months later, but him winning KOTR propelled him into the main event.
Stone Colds win was iconic, but for the sake of choosing someone else, Kurt is my number 1 on that list.

Owen did the most with it as a gimmick and ran with it for several years. Austin only used the event to cut a promo that made him, so he wasn't a great KOTR specifically. He was the same before and after.

I prefer the Kings Of The Ring who took on "King" nicknames after winning King of the Ring tournaments, with varying amounts of indulgence in the regal gimmick.
King Harley Race Macho King, Randy Savage King of Harts, Owen Hart King Mabel King Kurt King Edge the Awesome King Booker King Sheamus King Barrett
King Haku and King Hacksaw should be on the list as an honorable mentions.

For me it has to be Owen. The tournament itself was solid with some decent star power, and fed into a major storyline that ran before and after the event. Even though they cooled on Hart after the Bret feud, it immediately jumped him into the main event in a major storyline that put on some absolutely amazing matches.
They Austin clip has been played up for two decades now. But he only wrestled twice and had a final against a clearly washed up and out of shape Roberts who only advanced off of a DQ. The moment has been played up in retrospect, but Austin barely wrestled on tv for 6 months after KotR until the Bret feud in early '97. Austin had already been getting over and I don't know that the KotR win really added any momentum, though the Austin 3:16 shirt obviously exploded down the road.
But as far as best tournament? Nothing comes close to '93. Bret put on an absolute clinic that nobody could match.

Definitely has to be Owen followed by Austin and Hunter but Owen embraced it when he won just like he did with the slammy awards

Stone Cold. Hands down. Without that promo, God knows what the Attitude Era would have looked like.

Has to be Stone Cold and looking at the list of winners, having a King of the Ring themed figure line would look like a great idea if each figure included a cape, crown and scepter
Wave 1: Golden Era King Harley Race King Haku King Duggan Macho King Randy Savage
Wave 2: New Generation Era Bret Hart King Mabel Stone Cold Hunter Hearst Helmsley
Wave 3: Attitude Era Ken Shamrock Billy Gunn Kurt Angle Edge
Wave 4: Ruthless Aggression Era Brock Lesnar King Booker William Regal Jerry the King
