I hardly post in this forum, but I thought this was fitting. I just lost my dad on April 17th this year. It's been hard because he was my favourite parent. And even though he would watch wrestling with me when I was a kid and comment on how the punches weren't landing, he still went out of his way to get me toys like G.I. Joe and WWF LJNs, and those Bill Apter mags (PWI, Inside Wrestling, Wrestling Classics) every month. In my LJN collection I had JYD, Tito, Jake and Corporal Kirchner along with the ring - and I honestly don't remember what happened to any of them, but I always kept these two: My dad got them for me when he returned from a trip once, maybe back in '89, I'm not sure. He didn't follow wrestling, so there's no story behind why he bought Jesse "The Body" Ventura or George "The Animal" Steele, other than the fact that he knew I loved wrestling. And clearly I played the hell out of them 30 years ago, =/. Anyways, thought I'd memorialize these two for the forum archives.

I'm sorry for your loss. That's a great story, and it's awesome that you have this pair of relics to remember him by and commemorate his support for you.
During the boom of the Attitude era and the Monday Night Wars, I'd gotten back into wrestling pretty heavily, much to the chagrin of basically every adult in my life. We were at a family Christmas gathering once with my dad's side of the family, who we'd never been particularly close with for reasons. I was sitting in my aunt's living room, and my grandfather came in, sat down, and said "your father tells me you've been back into wrestling lately". I basically prepped myself for another round of the "you know it's fake", dissuading lecture I'd basically gotten from every adult willing to try up until that point, but instead, when I said confirmed what he'd asked, he shot right back and asked me who I thought was winning at Starrcade - Goldberg or Nash.
I was floored. Suddenly, I was sitting there, talking wrestling of all sorts with my 70 year old grandfather, who by no rights looked or acted the part of wrestling fan. He registered voters in his hometown, dressed in Revolutionary regalia and reenacted famous battles from the American Revolution. I already thought he was the coolest thing walking God's green earth, and the fact that he was sitting there telling me that he thought Nash would win because of backstage politics just skyrocketed him into the realm of hero worship for me.
He passed in 2010, but I'll always remember that day among all the other opportunities I got to spend time with him. I share stuff like this whenever people ask why wrestling means so much to me, and it seems like you've got a little piece of that too.

Thats awesome man. Sorry for your loss.
I have the same story/experience with my grandma and it's why I started collecting them all after I found mine in her basement while I was cleaning it out.

Warm wishes to you. I lost mine a few years ago. Growing up we got all the PPVs and he'd watch. He wasn't much into it, but he loved cheering the heels (especially Honky).

Good Memories can live as an imprint in many ways and are rarely defeated.

I find that my LJN and Hasbro figures always make me think of my mom. She would try and keep me up to date with the magazines and figures, even though money was tight. She had just turned 51 when she passed 3 years ago. When I look at some of my old figures it triggers a feeling and some memories of being young and being with her. I’m glad you can have those figures and they remind you of the good times with your dad. Sorry for your loss. That’s why a lot of these figures are more than just toys or pieces of rubber/plastic

Sorry for your loss. I won’t lie and say it’ll ever be easy as you’ll think of him every single day, because as you know I lost my father back on March 4 1990. And like I said there’s not a day that I don’t think of him, but at least we have all the memories to think back on.

Sorry for your loss. I lost my dad about 10 years ago now and I still have a lot of figures he bought me when I was a kid and whenever I get a WCW figure I think of him, since that's what we always watched together.

Thanks for your thoughts and stories everyone, I'm quoting PJ here because, well I've been fortunate not to loose many close relatives over the years, my dad is truly the first that's absolutely close to home and I've always heard people say that there's not a single day that goes by when they don't think of their loved one. I know it's all still very fresh for me, but omg is it true. And I wonder if 20 years from now it'll be the same, I hope so, I don't want to forget him.
