I felt this was a pretty interesting read. Thought I’d share.
“Jericho vs Fandango at WrestleMania? Wasn't the biggest fan of it. Was pretty pissed off about it to be honest with you. But when I realized this is what Vince wants me to do and there's no way out of it, now I got to make it great. If I can do that, then even though I don't feel great about it, at least I'll get respect from the boss. I gave him three or four other suggestions and he said no to all of them. He was super into Fandango. And I finally said 'There's nothing I can do to change your mind is there?' And Vince goes 'Nope'. So I hung up on him. Then I called Undertaker. I said 'Listen what Vince wants me to do, he wants me to work with this guy who has never been on TV. Hasn't even had a match. I got to work with Fandango at WrestleMania. What am I supposed to do?'. And Undertaker said, 'Do it. What's the problem? That's who he wants you to work - work him!' Talking about Undertaker's 20-0 streak at the time, Undertaker said 'How many of those matches were stinkers?' A lot of them were stinkers. Giant Gonzales, Jimmy Snuka far past his prime, Nathan Jones. He said 'If you go and do your best and get this match over, and get this guy over, Vince will respect you more. And even if you don't, this is your job. If we go to a Steven Spielberg audition and the part calls for me to blow my own nuts off, fall down a flight of stairs going 'wacka wacka wacka' and I go 'Hey Steve, I don't want to do this', Spielberg says, 'Okay, get the hell outta here, I'll hire the next guy'. That really was an eye opener. I had three weeks to get it over. And I remember he next night on Raw, people were chanting his name and signing along. I take a lot of credit for that. Bret Hart said 'Vince plays with his toys until he's bored and then throws them in the corner'. It's not that petty but Vince saw something in the guy and was super hot on him and that's your start. And that guy has to take it and go with it. He did a great job with that character. I have a lot of respect for him. I didn't want to work with him at first just because it wasn't what I was expecting. Working with him was a lot of fun and watching him was great.”

Undertaker has the attitude I wish they all had. Do the job you signed up for. Much respect to Jericho too for getting over himself and doing a great job.

Vince: "Listen Mark, I've gotta an idea for Mania next year. You're coming down to the ring but then all of a sudden BOOM! An unplanned pyro blows your nuts off and you go rolling down the ramp saying Wacka Wacka Wacka! Whaddaya say, gold right? I'm so f*****g good!"

I get what you're saying, and I have the utmost respect for The Undertaker, but it's easy for him to say "do what you're told" when he had been told to go out and win 20 times on the bounce at Mania and build up the greatest winning streak in the sports history. If he was asked to lose to Fandango I'm sure he'd have said hell no.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I'd be shocked.

If only all wrestling talent saw it the way Taker does.

It didn't help Jericho especially since we all knew he was going to lose the match.

this shouldn’t surprise anyone as taker has always been one of, if not the most, loyal employees to Vince in terms of a performer.

If only all wrestling talent saw it the way Taker does. McIntyre does and he’s being pretty vocal of it as of late

Guys fighting for their spot the way Jericho did is how the biggest stars in history were made. Piper, Hogan, Bret, Shawn, Austin... how many of these guys knew what was best for their character and told Vince to go blow out his ass? All of them. And that’s part of why 2019 doesn’t have any real stars. Everyone of these guys grew up watching Vince on TV and are either afraid of him or are star struck by him. And also, this soldier mentality is why people grind 40 hours a week for 35 years and end their life with nothing to show for it. Go big or get the off the pot. Wrestling needs trailblazers now more than ever. Glad handing yes men have ruined WWE because Vince is washed up creatively and nobody is willing to tell him his ideas suck like the Kliq did in the mid 90s.

Glad handing yes men have ruined WWE because Vince is washed up creatively and nobody is willing to tell him his ideas suck like the Kliq did in the mid 90s. Well, you’re not really wrong, but it’s not the 90’s anymore. The company is now publicly traded, meaning there’s majority shareholders that get to have a say in what happens. Remember that awkward as hell Austin podcast with Dean Ambrose? Austin kept telling Dean to push the limit with his character, and Dean wanted to say something but couldn’t really articulate it? If felt to me like he wanted to say that it doesn’t work that way anymore. If you step out of bounds too much (oh hi CM Punk) you get pushed to the side. Anytime I look at guys like Ryback and Rusev getting over big time, it’s like they get tested with a strange loss, and they get vocal about it on social media or something, and that’s the end. We don’t see if they’re disrespectful backstage or not. The Vince you’re talking about was Russo, since he was head of creative. He had a million ideas and VKM was in charge of sifting through the garbage to find the good stuff. To be honest, after going through those weekly Raws and Nitros on the Network, there was still quite a bit of cringeworthy content to go around, just more edgy material.

If only all wrestling talent saw it the way Taker does. I can appreciate people who just do things with no problems to an extent, but there's nothing wrong with knowing your own worth and wanting something more fitting for you. Jericho was far above a match with Fandango at Wrestlemania and knew it. I applaud Jericho for at least trying to get a better match for himself.

Did I just read Jericho taking credit for Fandango being over for 1 night? The other day he tried to take credit for people getting more money cause he signed with AEW. Someone needs to check Jericho for CTE cause the old man is starting to get delusional.

I mean, this is the same Chris Jericho that still adamantly talks about how one of the major moments in his career was refusing to just job to Goldberg on a random Nitro in a 2 minute job, believing he deserved a 15 min PPV match with build with him.
he got hauled in to a meeting with Bischoff, Hogan, all the big guys. he held his ground. they gave him his PPV Match. Goldberg never showed. but he still stood for what he thought he deserved.

As much as Fandango was fun for a couple of weeks, he shouldn't have been anywhere near a match at Wrestlemania with Chris Jericho. I get the putting him over properly thing, and much respect to Jericho for doing it, but come on it was never going to be a gimmick that was going anywhere. Fandango played it well, don't get me wrong, but what was Vince actually planning long term with it that one of WWE's biggest stars had to put him over clean for it to go to said place. I just never seen a long term future with the character, and I give props to Y2J for at least attempting to make him look good.
