Absolutely not, if it werent for the circumstances of his horrific death, I dont feel there would be anywhere near the amount of folklore surrounding his name. Owen was a good reliable wrestler, other than that he was just joe average.

I doubt it. Austin refused to work with him after he broke his neck. He never said sorry either. If the biggest star in the company isnt going to work with you, how are you get to the top level? Owen wouldve fit in well with WCW if he went there after the Screwjob. He couldve had great matches against Chris Jericho, Chris Benoit, Dean Malenko, Rey Mysterio Jr, Eddy Guerrero, etc I could see an opening for Owen as a soldier in the McMahon-Helmsley faction or having matches with the Radicalz in post-Austin early 2000. I'd like to think would've been more utilized then than in 1999. I want to make an Owen CAW in No Mercy now.

Bret had said (I think on Austin's podcast) that he would talk about retiring with Owen, around 2000 or 2002 and Owen wanted to become an elementary school teacher. He pictured them living next to each other with their families and drinking on their front porches together... Really saddening.

He always was second to Brett. Regardless he's a legend.

I thought he said Owen wanted to be a firefighter I dunno about that but he has definitely said school teacher before. Owen had apparently applied to be a firefighter in 1993 while he was away from the WWF nursing a knee injury. I think Bret mentioned this in his book that by Summerslam of that year, Owen was notified that he did not get accepted and was obviously dejected throughout the show. Luckily for him, he'd only have to tough it out for a few more months before his feud with Bret caught fire. I believe his aspirations to become a gym or school teacher were later on, but I could be wrong.

I thought that was pretty funny for you to say haha I believe his aspirations to become a gym or school teacher were later on, but I could be wrong. Yeah that's what I assumed, that Bret and Owen had talked and Owen wanted to become a school teacher after the year 2000 or so. That idea could have been anywhere from 1997 to before Owen's death.

I wish I could say I planned that. 🤣 Even if Owen was heading towards retirement, as a fan, it still sucks to think of the matches he could have had with Angle/Eddie/Benoit/Jericho had he lived to fulfill the final year(s) of his contract.
