How many times can one man be declared the "next Stone Cold" An endless amount, because there is no “next Stone Cold.” It’s like “The Next Jordan” argument. You can’t be the next or try to be the next or you are setting yourself up to fail. You have to be the FIRST you in any sport or profession. That’s how you earn success.

Been a wwf fan since the late 80s and then watched everything I could over the years. While i watch wwe ppvs sometimes with my son as he enjoys it I've not been able to find many positives for years. This AEW show was incredible and im 100% a fan. Great talent, well presented and got that feeling that I "need to watch" that I thought had gone. I can see a Lot if unhappy wwe stars watching this very closely if they weren't before. Thank you Cody. Time to wake up Vince, that dreadful 24/7 belt and wildcard rule aren't going to be enough if they keep coming at u like this!

I had my doubts about tonight but I bit the bullet and bought the show anyway. All 50 bucks. And I’m glad I did! I thought it started off shaky and I was really worried during the preshow. But as soon as the PPV started it went off without a hitch and it was fun and exciting and made me feel excited to be a wrestling fan again. Maybe it was the perfect storm of WWE completely posing me off the last month with MITB, the handling of the Lars situation and upcoming Blood Money and the fact that they completely trivialized the one thing they STILL HAD (Wrestlemania) for the money. But I was ready for a breath of fresh air. Tonight I got it, and boy was it awesome. This was wrestling and it’s what wrestling can be again from everyone! YES VINCE! THIS CAN BE WWE AGAIN TOO! IF YOU’D SIT BACK, LET PEOPLE THAT KNOW WRESTLING AND COMPELLING STORIES TAKE THE BOOKS AND JUST SIT BACK, LAUGH, AND COLLECT YOUR MONEY! And they did it all in the perimeters of “PG”! What a show!

Sadly, theres almost no chance that the whole board is going to get as actively involved. Tons of people here wont even watch it because its not WWE. Its because its buried in the other feds boards. I think we should have solo boards for the top 2, and just make everything else the indie thread. This forum is in need of some restructuring. That would help, but if people wont watch it because it's not WWE, then they're not going to watch it when it's got its own board.

I watched the pre-show but didn't order because I could really save the $50 right now. But I am excited to watch the show sometime soon. You guys made it sound awesome.

Better than anything WWE has put out, not called "NXT Takeover", in YEARS...

This was a perfect ppv and a perfect way to start the company it gave me old school wcw feels instantly with the way everything looked and was definitely better than anything WWE has put out the past 13 years plus we also got pyro and blood along with Jim Ross Bret hart and the moxley debut at the end it was excellent it actually felt like It was wrestling again and not just a high dollar production overrated show where the first hour is just people standing talking on the mic for 40 min of it wasting valuable roster talent they could use plus time for the entire show

Had a great time at the show tonight. Some of my photos are already out (used for the Moxley press release) and the rest are uploading as we speak!

Moxley is the tideturner. Jericho is a big name, the Elite are big to smarks, but Moxley is one of the biggest WWE guys of the last 10 years, he is the relevant star power AEW desperatly needs.

It was a good show last night. Most of the matches were entertaining, the world title looks really cool and it was nice to see Bret Hart and of course the Moxley run in was really exciting. I don't have any regret spending $50 on the ppv. I very much looking forward to their weekly show on TNT.

My only complaints are the camera work, Alex Marvez's announcing, and the runtime. I'd like to see them keep shows right around 3 hours, and I was feeling pretty spent by the main event.
JR wasn't perfect, but he really brought an energy and direction to the announcing that was sorely missing during the pre-show. AEW's video packages are very good, but they didn't spam the show with them like WWE does. WWE PPV's are always right around 50% matches and 50% video packages, ads, etc. It was really refreshing to have a match finish, have a quick package while the wrestlers cleared the ring, and then get right into the next introductions.
I rewatched Dustin/Cody again this morning, and it's probably my MOTY right now, just ahead of Gargano/Cole. It felt like a classic NWA blood feud, and they told an amazing story in the ring in a straight up pro wrestling match.

So what are the chances we get decent AEW figures down the line? I want an Omega so bad.

Double or Nothing was awesome yesterday! I didn't even get bored with any of the matches yesterday. Cody vs Dustin was my favorite match of that night and man was it good. To think I wasn't going to watch it but at the last minute I decided to pay for the ppv and it was worth it. Excellent show and I hope the best for AEW future. Also Dean/ Moxley showing up was epic the crowd's reaction made it so great.

So what are the chances we get decent AEW figures down the line? I want an Omega so bad. Any time soon? Probably unlikely. The Observer said TNT would be happy with 400k viewers to start. When TNA had figures, they were drawing around 1.25-1.5 million viewers while Raw was around 3.5M. But that was also almost a decade ago when just about everybody still had cable. Just a guess, I'd say if they got to around 800k to 1M viewers on the weekly show, somebody might be interested in making toys. Not crazy for a prime time show on a major cable network, but probably also something that will take time and some good booking to get to. Licensing might also be an issue since some of the key guys don't seemed to be signed to exclusive deals (Pac, Lucha Bros).

I thought this was a great show as well. Got in a bit late but right at he start of cody and dustin. Better than any pap per view WWE has done in years with the exception of the NXT takeover shows. The MITB bank ladder match was fantastic as well but they killed it with the ending. AEW is going to be a major problem for WWE as even after only one show the product seems better right now. WWE really needs to get its stuff figured out because once AEW hits TNT they have problems

If they are banking on a name like Mox.. they are in trouble haha . He's not that good or a big enough name to matter.

I like Kenny losing because that likely means Hangman beats Jericho for the title. Gives us a true heel/baby face title match without splitting the crowd over a Kenny/Page match. Just so much fun stuff. From Kong, to Bret, to Mox. MJF was on fire all night with heat. Cody and Goldust had the drama, grit and then the emotional ending. The tag match was ing amazing. That destroyer on the apron was great. I wasn’t overly impressed with Jericho tonight. The look is one thing, but the botches and pace and he kicked Kenny in the face in the corner. Just feels like wrestling hasn’t been his priority and it kind of ran into the ring tonight on him. Regardless, entertaining show from start to finish. I’m not sure what my expectations were for this but it definitely met them, at a minimum. I think Jericho makes sense as champ for the tv debut. He's the most recognizable name they have, and having a heel champ sets up a chase storyline. Page is going to be a star. But right now he's someone that 90+% of people have ever heard of, and has zero main event experience. I think putting the belt on him this early would be a huge huge mistake. They have the iwc/smark audience. Being successful on tv means getting casual/lapsed fans, and Jericho is absolutely the perfect guy for that. I get that mindset but I disagree. AEW is going to be successful because they’re not WWE. Jericho is on the shows drawing eyeballs regardless but using him to make Hangman gives them a Sting over Flair scenario. I think fans were energized by seeing the new talent last night. Page checks a bunch of boxes and he’s their guy, an Elite guy. I’d argue Moxley is a much better candidate for what you’re proposing over Jericho, but he needs to shed his WWE skin before he gets the title. Otherwise it turns into a TNA situation. I think AEW is aware of the external commentary that comes with signing away WWE talent and they’ll use that to get other guys over. At the end of the day, AEW feels like the company that wants to be carried by the 27 year old horse that is entering his prime, rather than the 48 year old legend who is in the twilight of his career.

AEW Double or Nothing was incredible! As someone who's been largely WWE-only, bar briefly watching TNA in 2010 and unsuccessfully trying NJPW last year, I absolutely loved the show. I was optimistic beforehand but still a bit reserved for the possibility of failure. Thankfully they delivered. Fantastic matches, fantastic presentation, and fantastic surprises. Pro wrestling at its best. With how incredible their very first show was, AEW showed there is finally a serious, potentially mainstream, easily accessible alternative to WWE. It's a great time to be a wrestling fan!
Some dodgy moments throughout, namely not cutting to entrances correctly in the battle royal, that backstage librarian segment, some awkward camera work throughout, the exceptionally poor timing of entrance videos in the 6 woman tag entrances, the timekeeper screwing up in the 6 woman tag match. But they're all things that can be worked out, and nobody should have expected perfection. Even now, the following day, I can say that AEW has a very good foundation to build off of. I had never watched the vast majority of wrestlers on the show, but I'm happy to discover exactly who they are over the course of AEW's future.
Highlights of the show for me included Awesome Kong's surprise debut, the Japanese 6 Woman Tag match, Cody VS Dustin, and of course Moxley's debut.
Incredibly strong start, can't wait for the future! I may not have been impressed by All In, but Double or Nothing impressed me beyond my expectations.

That seemed to be a huge pop for Mox, from what I have seen on bleacher.... I thought, kind of cooly, started with a shocking silence from a lot of folks, a legit What?! I didn't expect it and nearly jumped into my ceiling fan when I just read about it... Lol.

At the end of the day, AEW feels like the company that wants to be carried by the 27 year old horse that is entering his prime, rather than the 48 year old legend who is in the twilight of his career. Totally agree about making new stars that can carry the company. The old wrestling adage is that the money is in the chase. So I'd rather see them build Hangman in front of a few hundred thousand people on weekly tv, build anticipation, and then have a real star making payoff down the road when there are hopefully a lot of people watching. Putting the belt on him right out of the gate won't have the same impact, imo. Obviously we don't know PPV buys yet, but I have to assume those numbers will jump a decent amount after the TV show starts. So to me it is worth putting Jericho over with a strong showing by Hangman, and then have the sympathetic underdog babyface chase the belt when you debut on TV and have more eyeballs on the product and PPV's just a couple months later for the payoff. Using the Sting/Flair comparison, the time limit draw at Clash and then the subsequent storyline with the Horsemen built the anticipation and sympathy for when Sting finally sealed the deal at GAB 90. You don't have to necessarily win for a star-making moment.
