Just watched Cody’s interview with Chris Van Vliet, and I’m a huge fan of him and what they’re trying to do. WWE has slapped us around for long enough. I’m rooting for AEW to be extremely successful.

So what are the chances we get decent AEW figures down the line? I want an Omega so bad. I’m curious to see what comes of this too. Not counting the LJN’s because they are expensive niche figures for adults But if they get their TV time slot on TNT and continue with this product like I think they will, and a billionaires money behind them, somebody will take a shot at 6”-7” articulated figures. Plus they seem smart enough to embrace wrestling history (ala Classic Superstars). Make them compatible enough to blend in with Mattel WWE and they are sitting on a gold mine No idea when Mattel’s deal with WWE is up. If it’s within a couple of years Hasbro might not bite (holding out to get WWE license), but who knows. Playmates, McFarlane, not sure who else. Hell, Mattel if they lose WWE, could go for it That would be a dream job for Bill, getting to work on indy stars, Mexican stars, possibly Japanese stars, etc, without big brother telling him every little move he can make and so many bs restrictions

It's crazy how every single one of these guys has no actual standing in this company yet when it comes to main eventer, mid-carder, and jobber, (besides of course Cody, Omega, Jericho) nobody felt as if they belonged to be constricted to one of those stereotypes in wrestling.
In WWE, Sammy Guevara would sadly be on 205 or a jobber on Raw. The guy felt as if he could be a main eventer in AEW, even in defeat. Hell, even the battle royal didn't feel like a bunch of jobbers thrown together fighting for a spot. Each guy involved at least had one moment to shine in the match.
I think that's what Cody wants to do. He doesn't want you to associate someone with the term jobber, midcarder, main eventer. Everyone deserves a chance to be in the spotlight at least once to show if they can hang and he doesn't want people to go "Why the hell is he getting a title shot!?". Which happens constantly in WWE when they'll have someone lose and do nothing for weeks, randomly be inserted into a title feud.

A few little things they could improve, but I really enjoyed the show. Cody vs Dustin was so much better than I expected and I'm still shocked they actually got Mox. Such an awesome moment with what felt like some clasic JR "Stone Cold" calls when he was coming to the ring

I'd love to see a 6in Hasbro line that's in scale with WWE figures, but that might be a pipe dream since they won't even revive GI Joe. McFarlane grabbed the Harry Potter and DC licenses recently, and I assume that DC will want articulated action figures - so maybe that's possible. Jakks is out there, but I have zero faith in them making anything that could hold a candle to Mattel. Either way my guess is that figures would be 2+ years off in a best case scenario.

Cody vs Dustin was great. But overall, it's pretty much just 2005 TNA. A shame it didn't offer anything new, but I enjoyed some of the WrestleCrap stuff in the pre-show. I'm glad that they haven't just gone for the realistic, real sports type stuff that they pretended they were going to do.
I hope overall they end up becoming a decent alternative to WWE. I'll definitely watch when the TV show starts.

Just watched the replay on ITV box office, damn I enjoyed that!
Lots of little issues that’ll need ironing out such as camera angles, audio etc but honestly I really enjoyed it!

Well that’s good to hear on WWE side of things. I love the Elites but hate the restrictions that Mattel either puts on themselves or WWE puts on them.

I've always been probably the biggest WCW fan on this board. Ask k5. However, I'm really worried about all of these comparisons I'm seeing about AEW reminding folks of WCW. I'm afraid people will come in hearing oh it's just like WCW when it was good and then they'll see just Jericho that they've heard of more than just once and be turned off. Sure there are come comparisons that are valid, but this whole deal is so much different and can stand on it's own as a viable alternative without being paired with something of old that failed. There just isn't enough star power yet to draw in casuals and keep them. It will happen though. I just hope people don't turn in thinking they'll see something from the attitude era and then see a completely different product and get turned off from it. That said I haven't been this excited about wrestling in years.

Just finished re-watching it and, I have to say, it's almost flawless. Best wrestling show of 2019 so far, without question.

From clips I watched this morning, it looked like a very good show overall. Room for improvement but a good start. AEW will not put WWE out of business. Hopefully it is a good alternative as is ROH, New Japan, etc., but on a larger scale. Taking jabs at the competition is to be expected. For AEW to succeed, it will need good story lines for viewers to invest in and of course actual good matches. I probably will always be a WWE fan, regardless of the nonsense they do. I am looking forward to something different though.

That said I haven't been this excited about wrestling in years. I saw a lot of people online saying they watched the show with non fans or lapsed fans and they really enjoyed the show. So that's a good sign. Double or Nothing was apparently the third highest Google trend last night and had 4 times as many searches as All In that was on par with B level WWE PPV's. So at the least I think we can stop the "just another indy" talk.

How many times can one man be declared the "next Stone Cold" Did you come to this thread just to complain? Who do you think I am, Chip? The show was fine. Very top heavy, but that's to be expected when the guys who are EVPs are all giving themselves the most time. Cody/Dustin was the best non-WWE match I've seen maybe ever. Shame Dustin had to blade and then bleed about 15 gallons to keep people invested, though.

Having Ambrose (I know it’s Moxley but im gonna call him Ambrose) is gonna be a huge way to get the other casual fans to tune it. It isn’t like when Hogan went to WCW by any means, but it’s fair to say that it’s the equivalent to when Hall and Nash went to WCW which was huge

AEW made a fan out of me last night. I was genuinely surprised for and marked out for Awesome Kong. Bret Hart came out of nowhere, but what a great legend to present the AEW Championship. Jon Moxley debuting was insane and exactly what this company needed to jumpstart the promotion to help bring over some eyes that are more exclusively WWE such as myself. There are so many directions they can go coming out of last night and I'm very intrigued to see where they take us. Like others have mentioned, there were a few production gaffes here and there but considering this is their first official show I was expecting it to be shaky at times. Thankfully it was primarily during the pre-show and the six-woman tag.
All of the matches were thoroughly entertaining and held my attention. The standout to me was Cody vs. Dustin which had such an emotional pull to it with both guys delivering a brutally amazing match. I would say that was my match of the night followed by The Young Bucks vs. Pentagon Jr. & Rey Fenix. I had never seen a Bucks match other than the six-man tag from ALL IN, which was also good but cut very short. I can see why they have such a reputation. Lastly, Omega vs. Jericho delivered for me as well. Both guys have such incredible star quality about them and I can't believe Jericho can still go as good as he can at 48 years old. I'm on the fence as to whether I'll purchase their next PPV presuming it's Fyter Fest next month, considering $50+ is a lot to ask these days for a wrestling PPV. However, if tonight was any indication of the quality of their shows then it'll certainly be a difficult show to pass on.
This show also did such a good job at establishing their own stars. I know people will argue that the use of guys like Jericho (who again, can still go), Bret Hart and JR calls too much attention to WWE but in reality it's very minor. 90% of this show featured talent I had never really seen before and I'm excited to see more of them. Both Sammy Guevara and Kip Sabian were damn good in their match and showed a lot of charisma. I'm into Hangman Page as a top babyface contender. I also just want to take a minute to give major kudos to MJF who should absolutely be positioned as AEW's top heel. He is brilliant on the mic and at being unlikeable. He's what EC3 and Alberto Del Rio should have been.
I really hope the momentum keeps going for AEW. I can't wait until their weekly TV show. Wow, I might actually begin investing a couple hours each week into watching weekly wrestling programming again. That's a fun feeling I haven't had in a long time.

I didn't post that much during the show because, well to be honest- I was having way to much fun. At&T charged $60 and was worth it.
This was the first time in years that we sat down as a family (2 adults, 4 kids) and watch a ppv. There were oohs and aahs, and laughter. And conversations about the matches and wrestlers. There is nothing to talk about WWE other than how they mishandle everything.
No one in there right mind is saying AEW is going to put WWE out of business. The only thing that can make that happen is Vince, and it seems like he is trying to do that.(not on purpose, just basically giving the fans the middle finger) What we are saying is that we love wrestling and WWE needs competition to better themselves. They are stale, hell for the last 15 years or so. They have become the cliché of the jokes and embarrassment of saying that you watch wrestling.
It was a FUN and EXCITING show. When can you say that for WWE? And be honest.
