Hart hits the ring bashing Douglas with chair and Bam Bam Bigelow. Bret Hart cuts a heated promo about the World Wrestling Federation, and the screw job. And that he's been relegated to some back water named ECW.

For weeks Douglas would want to get his hands on Hart. Douglas represented the dream of ECW. Douglas wanted Hart's ass, and Hart would play the underhanded heel role to it's best. Blind siding Douglas for weeks and making the ECW faithful very angry. It was settled for Hart would have to learn the ways of the land locked inside Steel Cage. Hart managed to defeat Douglas.
House Party 1998
Bret Hart would trash and belittle the ECW Championship in any human way possible. Bret Hart reigned as hateful champion, blaming the fans for what happened in Montreal. Stating the fans of Wrestling turned on him not only in the WWF but making some back water named ECW. Douglas continued to pursue Hart, and was given a rematch for ECW New Years street fight. Bret would win the match.
Bret Hart would beat Douglas badly at the event, but Douglas still stood. Bret was driven to point of insanity, and how many times would he have to defeat Douglas. Douglas found himself one more match to represent ECW in I quit match, which Hart won by putting gun to the insane Douglas's head.
came your way February 1998. With Bret Hart facing Bam Bam Bigelow who cut shoot on Hart and his career. Bigelow embraced ECW as the place that gave him new chance in the world of wrestling. Bigelow tried reasoning with Hart, but their was no reason with Hart. Hart had Bigelow attacked by goons. Bigelow hunted Hart like wild animal. And the two faced off with Bret Hart retaining his championship.
Living Dangerously 1998
Living Dangerously came by in 1998, and Bret Hart had refused to defend his ECW Championship. Instead wanting someone to earn it. So a fatal 4 ladder match was held between Tommy Dreamer, Sabu, Sandman, and RVD. RVD was viewed as the favorite and was getting he best of everyone. And it was some what what the crowd was talking for. But, Bret found himself screwing RVD over. And it allowed for Sabu to get the win. Sabu and RVD would have some tension in regard to this and it added as sub story.

And continue to poke fun at this. Only for Heyman to threaten to strip Hart of the title. Hart stated this piece of $%#% title didn't matter to him. And destroyed it leaving ECW here in there.
Heyman in confusion declared a tournament to start at October's Crossing the Line 1998. RVD would move up to the tournament. It was set for November to Remember RVD and Sabu for the ECW Championship.
