WCW Saturday Night (on FOX) July 14th, 2001 Allstate Arena, Chicago Attendance: 16,200, Ratings: 3.0 Hosts: Scott Hudson and Paul Heyman
RECAP: July 7th Episode was a one-hour WCW Special with WCW's Greatest Matches in its history that included Flair vs. Sting, Steiner vs. Booker T WCW Nitro title match, DDP vs. Randy Savage.
Scott Hudson opens Saturday Night saying that we are just three days away from the Great American Bash (tomorrow is the WWF PPV) and tonight WWF's Stone Cold Steve Austin will be confronting Booker T. Heyman says he's really upset that last week was a WCW-only Special and not a single ECW star was presented. Heyman is a WCW shareholder who deserves respect. Booker T makes his return to WCW TV as he was on RAW and Smackdown the past few weeks pushing the feud with Austin. Booker is on the mic trashing Austin and saying that WCW is a better product than the WWF and that WCW nearly put the WWF out of business and it'll happen again. Stone Cold Steve Austin makes his way out with the WWF Championship belt. Austin: Look at this ring, this piece of trash ring called WCW. I never once thought that I would step in a WCW ring again, but let's be honest this ring is for a bunch of losers like you Booker T and you're right you did nearly put us out of business, but guess what it was the WWF that put you out of business and you're lucky that Shane McMahon was there to buy the company. Booker: You got... Austin: I ain't done son, the bottom line is at the Great American Bash, I will be representing my good friend Vince McMahon (remember he is a heel now in the WWF), and when I stun your a$$ and beat you for the 1-2-3 the WWF will once again reign supreme and as a matter of fact I won't just whoop your a$$ I'm going to send you to the unemployment line and the only job you'll get and all these good for nothing WCW stars in the back will get is cleaning up trash and selling hotdogs on the streets. Booker attacks Austin! Austin fights back! The two go at it till Booker lands a Book End on a table! After a commercial break Austin who is hurt is in the back packing his bags and tells Shane McMahon off who was with Torrie and Stacy. Austin says he never wants to set foot in a WCW ring again but will do it only once at the GAB. Johnny the Bull def. Jason Jett via pinfall at 3:55. Kanyon def. Raven via DQ at 5:22 after Tommy Dreamer and Steven Richards run out and start beating up on Kanyon with Raven. Raven cuts a promo saying that none of the ECW stars except RVD is going to be on the GAB PPV and how unfair that is. Tommy Dreamer says that they'll still show up at GAB because it's time that ECW get recognized. Scott asks Heyman and Heyman says if his boys feel like ECW is treated unfairly that's their feeling and he's just out here doing his job. Backstage segment has Shane McMahon in his office and in come the DUDLEY BOYZ who have defected to WCW! Shane says he's so proud that they've signed with WCW and can't wait to beef up the Tag Team division with big stars. Dudleys say they're excited to be part of WCW and will make Shane proud. Shane says they will face whoever wins the WCW tag Team title match at GAB.Shane comes out with Stacy and Torrie and Mean Gene Okerlund. Mean Gene announces the contract signing for Sting and Scott Steiner. Sting makes his way out to a pop and gets in the ring. Scott makes his way out with Midajah and the WCW World title belt. Gene: Gentlemen I would like to ask you to sign this contract for the Great American Bash to make it official that Sting will be taking on Scott Steiner for the WCW World Heavyweight title. Scott: Before I sign I got something to say to Sting. Sting you're a legend in the WCW, you've held so many championships I can't even do the math. But Sting, if you recall last year I beat you in the ring after facing two other men that same time and I made you tap out. This match, means a lot to me because for me, this is going to be a final passing of the torch. The time for the Stingers of the world of professional wrestling are over (signs). Sting: Scott I'm in this for the long haul and that's not all after I take the WCW title this Tuesday....I'm taking it to the WWF.
Shane: What! What the hell is this! What are you talking about Sting? Sting: (stands and laughs) I said what I said (signs and walks out) Shane starts to talk to Steiner all upset. After a commercial break Shane is backstage on the phone with Vince telling him off as to how he could try to take Sting from him. Vince says this is revenge for Chyna taking the WWF Women's title and that it's just business. Shane is furious. The Wall def. Billy Kidman via pinfall at 4:55.

Team Canada via pinfall after Chuck lands a reverse piledriver from the top rope on Storm at 6:32 to retain the WCW World Tag Team Championships. After the match the Dudleyz get in the ring and start a fight with both the Thrillers and Team Canada. Heyman: You're look at the New ECW, united and strong one and only, and Shane, you can shove our agreement up your a$$ because it's time that the ECW takes over the WCW! O and one more thing, one more thing, later tonight, we have one more surprise (laughs as fans in the crowd chant ECW) Scott Steiner (c) def. Sting via DQ at 21:42 to retain the WCW World Heavyweight Championship. Shane McMahon tried to pull a screwjob on Sting, but Sting wouldn't let him. Later in the match as Sting knocks Shane out cold and had promised in a pre-match promo that he was taking the WCW title to the WWF for Smackdown, out comes SABU who rushes out and knocks down Scott Steiner and Sting at the same time! He grabs a chair and suplexes Sting unto it in the middle of the ring as Scott tries to escape. However as he is up the aisle, the whole ECW rush out and beat the living hell out of Scott! Heyman gets in the ring and shakes Sabu's hands as Heyman gets the crowd to chant ECW constantly for Shane to get back up in tears. Scott Hudson and Michael Cole mention how they don't know if that's tears of joy that the WCW title didn't go to Sting or tears of sadness that the ECW is taking over.

Shane agrees. Tommy Dreamer def. Kanyon via pinfall at 6:23.
The Dudley Boyz (c) (w/Stacy) def. Team Canada via pinfall to retain the WCW World Tag Team titles at 4:44. The Insiders were watching the match in the back.

WCW Saturday Night (on FOX) September 15th, 2001 Ratings: 3.8 Hosts: Scott Hudson and Paul HeymanWCW Saturday Night is honouring those fallen on 9/11. There is a lot of security out. "Real American" plays as fans stand on their feet and it's HULK HOGAN to a massive pop! Hogan gets in the ring with Mean Gene and talks trash about America's enemies and that the United States will stand behind its President and will stay united. WCW Hardcore Champion Sabu comes out and confronts Hogan saying that Hulk Hogan is no Real American and that a Real American is someone who respects others like Sabu. Sabu says he loves America, but won't be disrespected. Sabu gets a lot of heat from the crowd now regardless. Hogan starts landing lefts and rights! Hogan smashes Sabu unto the corner, but Sabu fights Hogan and drops him with a clothesline. Sabu grabs a table and sets it in the middle of the ring. I’m confused Vince keeps sending guys to WCW shows, so to clarify Shane doesn't want that anymore. Also for the Austin-Booker feud, Booker was on RAW and Smackdown constantly, so this way Vince doesn't want exposure of any WCW guys on his show.

Also for the Austin-Booker feud, Booker was on RAW and Smackdown constantly, so this way Vince doesn't want exposure of any WCW guys on his show. I think he means you worded the original stip wrong. You had the instance of "WCW losing" twice (If APA wins/if WCW loses), so the sentence didn't make sense.

Wrestling Observer Update
FOX has sent out a press release announcing a new three-year WCW deal beginning in 2002, which will extend WCW Saturday Night to two hours beginning in January. To mark this occasion, two free two-hour specials are announced to be on FOX for "Halloween Havoc" in October and "The Night of Champions" in November. WCW is set to announce their PPV soon for Starrcade 2001 which is set for December.
Goldberg is set to sign with WCW in November, but no sign of a new contract deal with Hulk Hogan who appeared only once on Saturday Night. We have reason to believe that Huk or another big WCW star is set to appear in January when Saturday Night goes to two hours.
Starrcade is being set up as a WCW vs. WWF PPV for WCW and so far there are talks that the three big matches could be Triple H vs. Scott Steiner, Rock vs. Sting, and Goldberg vs. Stone Cold. There are also talks about Wrestlemania X8 to host some WCW stars on their program.
Rumours have it that Ric Flair is taking an on-screen authority role, possible as a President or General Manager in WCW. Dudley Boyz are looking to go back to the WWF since their title loss.

END of PART 18
I don't know if there was interest by my readers in this (would appreciate if you would let me know), or if anyone wanted me to continue in a separate thread as a new diary. I may do that in the future, but for now have found a right moment to end it in the anthologies with Fall Brawl.
Fall Brawl Aftermath:
RAW Sept 17 saw Trish Stratus bring in the WCW Women's title and decides to throw it in Vince McMahon's trash bin where he urinates in it and says that's how he feels about WCW.
Nature Boy Ric Flair is announced as the new President of WCW. Flair announces a new era in WCW history.

19. Chris Jericho as the Face of the WWF 2001-02
I always felt that Jericho should've been a babyface heading towards the Undisputed Championship and WMX8. Looking back he was so over when he came in as Y2J and his hilarious one liners about Stephanie were legendary. Jericho was one of the best in the business at the time. Sure Jericho can be a great heel, but I don't believe I was ready to see that yet. When Jericho had turned heel it felt cheapened for his character. We all know that the main event of WMX8 was booked for Triple H to go over as a babyface, but even though people were happy to see Triple H back from his injury, he was always a natural heel. Even when he won the Undisputed Championship, he was a tweener heading to his match with the Hulkster at Backlash, so all that work was for what? What if Chris Jericho doesn't turn heel at the Survivor Series 2001? Just how could be become the face of the Company when there is a roster of top stars?

Question: Will Austin still be a heel come Mania X8?
