I don’t mean this insultingly, but I can’t believe this thread is still going. Like, the idea that Mattel is going to make the top guys continuously (just like every other company that’s ever made wrestling figures has done) shouldn’t be that hard to understand. Beyond that, whether for kids getting their first toy or collectors, they want stores to always have those guys in stock. That's the point.

There were numerous posts a few years back, that Mattel had literally ran out of legends to make. Names like Pat Patterson and Terry Taylor, still work for WWE and are absolutely scraping the barrel. A few names, such as Mabel were a complete shock. Names that were in the concussion lawsuit could get figures depending how much grovelling they do to WWE to get back on good terms I guess. Funny that after nearly 10 years of Mattel figures, people still base Mattels global demand off of their local Walmart. 1 of 6000 stores is a good measuring stick if you want to be wrong I guess..... It’s a good measuring stick that everyone’s stores are usually crap on this whole board. That’s not just going off one store Also Mattel wasted so many names that they had signed, and did nothing with them that they could have Rick Martel (blue, Strike Force) Crush (multiple looks) Smash (Repo Man) Demolition repaints One Man Gang Superstar Billy Graham Jericho (WCW, Codebreaker, 500 other looks thru the years) Greg Valentine I’m sure others too. They make 3 Fred Ottoman figures in a year, but stall on names like Sting, Hogan, Jericho. Makes zero sense Choices that they are making (Bill I guess?) will come back to bite them, in turn hurting us as the collector portion of this line - Shinsuke Ult Edition. Really? - That Asuka he had planned will take up in an Elite spot. She can’t even stay relevant on tv - the shower time Rusev was an idiotic idea in the first place Amongst other decisions That is naive in the extreme. Do people come on here to say how good their Target is at the moment? No, they buy their figs they go home and post them on Insta. People only come on here to moan that they can't get figures. Demolition, Rick Martel, and Akeem didn't sell the first time. So why would they have made repaints straight away? Then their deals expired.

I'd rather have current guys over flashbacks any day of the week. Mattel can't really turn to anyone and say let's make a Crush or Billy Graham figure over an AJ Styles figure.

While I generally agree with this sentiment, it would be nice to squeeze in a more popular flashback in every wave or two even if short packed (but not a store exclusive). DDP in blue jeans (done correctly) I think would sell under that model.

Nobody here has said they don't get the concept. when most people here that have commented are saying there seeing AJ's clogging , it bears a different issue. Just like when some you complain about Sid or whatever flashback warm for months.. its the same problem or bigger because they keep producing AJ's unlike Sid...

Then their deals expired. plenty of people come on here and praise there targets...lol.. and walmarts for that matter.. and yes many people complain about there targets and Walmarts… its naïve to say that... and the point I think hes trying to make is they could've tried again in the flashback form when they started that line and dont have to overproduce it instead of just letting the deal expire. I think is the bigger point.

Beyond all stores being different and “clogging” being a relative term - I never see a vast majority of figures that “clog” in stores, legends and current guys alike - the difference between AJ and something like Sid is that Mattel wants AJ in the store every time someone goes in there.

All I see on the Pegs near me is AJ top picks, Nakamura, Charlotte, and James Ellsworth. Thought the whole point of releasing these 4 top picks every so often was to be able to purchase 1 or all of these 4. Have seen Rollins once, but never the other 2. But there is 7 top pick AJs. My stores have Charlotte figures rotting in them. AJ and Nakamura are huge shelf warmers too. I think AJ is collecting dust because they put him out so often. RIP to the Ultimate line when that Nakamura comes out. What were they thinking? MDT- Hmm... who should we put in the Ultimate line? Nakamura or an actual star people care about? Lets go with Nakamura.

But agreed that there were easily a dozen wrestlers who made more sense as for the line than Nakamura.

Except all Mattel’s lines need to appeal to kids first and collectors a distant second. And unfortunately when the Ultimate line was first a concept Nakamura was wildly popular then everyone figured out what I was saying all along and that was me was nothing more than an entrance. He had a great debut match vs Zayn in NXT and that was it. He didn’t even come close to living up to the hype

But in my opinion, the $20 Elite line is (or should be) geared towards adult collectors. Just like every other action figure line does Marvel Legends DC Multiverse MMPR Lightning Coll SW Black Series Transformers (I’m sure? Don’t pay attention at all to them) all of the above also have kids lines ($10 or under), just like Mattel has WWE Basics I know people say it’s kids first and collector a distant second, but it doesn’t seem to be like that in all these other lines. Or there is a way more healthy balance of old school mixed with new school stuff. In the new more ‘premium’ line we need some heavy hitters (Rousey, UW, Hart are good IMO), not Bill’s obsession, Shinsuke

I mean bill has said before that the basic out sell the elites.
