I love that this not just an adaptation of the book but is a sequel to Kubrick’s The Shining. I’m excited to see this.

Also excited. Thought they were using archive footage of the movie but then noticed the woman in the tub was different. Sure enough, they re-shot things. Kind of cool! screencrush.com/the-shining-doctor-sleep-comparison/I haven't read Doctor Sleep and I actually think The Shining novel is not that great of a book, but I love the movie. For me, the more it's tied to the movie the better.

I quite enjoyed the Doctor Sleep novel. It was interesting to see how Danny Torrence coped with the events of The Shining, leading to the main story of the book and film. It seems like they're going to lean more heavily into aspects of The Shining than they did in the book, which I get as they're trying to sell tickets and this will get the general audience more interested in going to see this movie. With that said, I found the novel to be a bit less of a horror and more of an adventure with some horror elements. Hopefully the story translates well to the screen. I really liked the trailer so fingers crossed the film turns out well.

Other than flashing back to the Kubrick scenes this seems like a pretty faithful adaption to the book. I haven't read anything about the film prior to seeing the trailer but it looks like Dan meets Abra and the True Knot tries to get her. I guess the end is the big factor. Do they revisit the hotel (so are those scenes real or in Dan's mind) or do they go with the camp ground ending where the hotel once stood. Stylistically I think it would be better if the hotel is still standing. Especially since so many of the ghosts are involved at the end, and I think that makes the strictly film fans happy.
Regardless, I'll definitely check this out. Curious to see, too, how they handle the end as far as the cgi. Could get kind of hokey if they're not careful but this looks pretty gritty and grounded. I really enjoyed the hell out of the Haunting of Hill House. Gerald's Game was a solid adaption for a Netflix movie. So Flanagan seems to have the tools to deliver on this one.

Ill probably end up checking it out at some point but im not getting my hopes up, too many recent films that I was initially pumped for have let me down. Im looking at you Glass and Us.

I have mild expectations for this.
I read the book and enjoyed it, but it wasn't something I thought needed to be a movie. I will still check it out though.
