Over the last year or so, I've completely sold/cleared out my collection of pretty much all media - books, DVDs, video games, magazines, comics, so on and so forth. About a decade of collecting went out.
Anyone here ever completely clear out a giant collection? I know for a lot it would be wrestling figures, what this whole board is about, but figured I'd post this here so as to cover anything 21st Century Western humans may collect or even "hoard."

getting ready to do that and I dread how much time it's going to take. got the ex's toy collection in the divorce and finally have some time to start that project. will definitely take at least 5 years.

I'm doing it now I stared to clear out the toy collection. It's tough when you have multiple lines, and quantity on some stuff. I used to cherry pick certain figures from lines that I thought were cool at the time and have done that as the one and done figures. I have a lot of empty bins now, more room in the house, plus the money coming in is very nice. I'm keeping some stuff, cherry picking other items. I really lost my passion with being a diehard completist collector. I'll eventually hit some of the other lines as well, I don't keep up as much with most lines anymore.

Sounds like you didn't want it. Ya know, since you dread doing something with it.

I cleared out most of all my DVD collection from 5 years ago. Had over 300 DVDs. Kept only the special edition versions. Once I got a Blu Ray player I only replaced a few top favorite movies.

I had close to 200 Jakks RA figures with a couple of Toybiz TNA and Deluxe Aggressions thrown in. In 2008 my parents threw literally ALL OF THEM away when I wasn't home. I would literally give up my right ring finger to have those back. And I don't know if this counts, but in 2016 I decided to condense my wrestling DVD collection and move them all into those CD fold open cases, the soft kind with the zipper. All of my DVDs were from before the Network existed or ROH/Highspots DVDs, so with the exception of the indy DVDs, I got rid of the boxes of ALL but three of my DVD sets. I have enough wrestling footage to survive the apocalypse and start talking like some amalgam of famous pro wrestlers. .

I am much happier now, should have done it sooner. that's the price I paid to keep my sanity.

Here's one of the best references for figures if you don't know who they are or if you need to know what accessories they came with. wrestlingfigs.com/figure-database/Just scroll down & click on the names. Hope this helps.

At one time I had a massive wrestling VHS collection but after I transferred them all to DVD(Which took a good while) I gave em all the heave-ho.

Sold all my Marvel figures off. Wish I still had them all, I had a couple hundred of them and pretty much sold them in a week.
Paid off all my debt at the time and had money left over which was nice.

Nope never a whole collection too many people have sold out and regretted it later, I'm not about to get got like that.
I do have old Beano and Dandy annuals from the 70s theres in storage for another decade and if probably flog them then of the price was right and I could use to money to get something as "tribute" I sold off a load of old jakks figures and used the money for an Undertaker tattoo

Sold my DBZ figuarts collection 3 times when the line barely started and regretted it. I manage to get them all back before they started going for insane prices.

Does a girl, her makeup, clothes and shoes count?

I did it with hockey and baseball cards back in July of 2012, and now in June of 2019 I am re-buying them all over again.
I did phase out a lot of my stuff over the years though. Either because I needed money for something else, or because I just wasn't no longer interested in it, or because I just didn't want it anymore.
I think at the end of it all, I will have just small bits and pieces of everything I ever enjoyed, my top favourites if you will, and that will be okay with me.

I've done it three times in the last 20 years for different reasons. The first one hurt the most.
*I had a large collection (several thousand) of comics in the late 90s, but they became a burden when I was changing jobs and moving from apartment to apartment as a young man. I let them go with the idea that one day when I got settled, I'd buy back what I wanted. That has definitely come to fruition--and then some.
*About 10 years ago, I had an expensive sports card collection. I began to question some of the "game-used/authentic" materials that I was seeing in cards. It wasn't long after this that stories began to surface about card companies buying uniforms from less than credible sources (look up the Bradley Wells FBI case for an example) and athletes having other people sign cards for them. The poor quality control severely diminished my interest in collecting. I purged all but a few cards.
*Lastly, I let go of all but two wrestling figures (gifts) some time in late 2011 or early 2012. My interest in WWE and wrestling in general had waned, so I chose my comic-related items over my Jakks/Mattel figures. I still like talking about wrestling figs and seeing new releases, but like many collectors, space became a central issue.
