Have they always done this? I’ve bought a few figures the last couple Days and have been charged sales tax on each one. Is this something new?

Its something relatively new. The buyer has to pay the tax added and it all goes to ebay. You dont get a penny of it.

The Supreme Court overturned Quill vs. North Dakota.
Thus, certain states are required to charge sales tax for online purchases. I believe it's Washington, Pennsylvania, and Oklahoma for now, but I'm not 100% certain. The list may have changed.
EBay doesn't keep any of the sales tax. That will be remitted to whichever state the sale took place in.
Sooner or later we'll be paying tax on every single online purchase, so prepare your anus.

I know if the seller is a small business they implement a tax on purchases.

For us lucky folks in Washington State, I think this started with the New Year. It sucks.

I think it affects about a dozen states. As a seller, I notice more and more buyers are paying tax because ebay places a note in the sales record whenever they collect a tax.
My state started collecting taxes back in mid January. Before that it was only on businesses with a presence in the state. For example, Toyrus.com would charge a tax, but not a store like RSC.

Lame. Yet another reason to not buy from EBay.

It’s annoying. I find some okay deals on eBay and then I get turned off with the additional taxes. It’s always something I forget until checkout -_-

My state's new policy started the first of this month. More of state officials trying to deter online purchases and drive shoppers to local businesses. No regard that hardly any stores cater to my interests, and I would sit on my cash and not spend a d*mn penny in any junk store just because "support local" bs propaganda.

~*Young $ Money*~ That was me today. I was already paying over my limit for a figure and said screw it. Then the additional tax just turned me off and I didn’t buy anything. Luckily, I found a sweet deal just now and purchased the figure immediately.

I bought a softmod WiiU back in January and there was tax. So at least through 2019. But that was also my first purchase from eBay ever.

Learned that in a law course I took. I live in PA, but if I went to Ohio to buy a car, I'd have to pay double the tax. Ohio sales, and PA sales. So no surprise we're included in this.
