Ah, the White Wolf of Kaer Morhen to the silver screen. Cavill looks phenomenal.

I'll admit, I was skeptical when the first image of Cavill done up as Geralt was released, but seeing this, he looks much better.

I've never played a Witcher game or anything, but I'm mildly excited.

The three games are supposed to happen, after the story of the books. Yep. Example being the girl in the trailer saying "I can't do this without you!" That's Cirillia. She's a kid in the books just like that scene. She's a full blown, independent woman in the games. Now I wouldn't be surprised if they toss some Easter Eggs into the show for the game fans, maybe a passing interaction with a game only character, or a game of Gwent when Geralt is talking strategy with someone or something. But it's all the books.

Hopefully, since he does have involvement in the show, Sapkowski worked out a good deal, so if the show is a success, he's compensated well, and doesn't throw a fit, like he did with the games. I think the guy did a great job creating the Witcher world, using mythology into his story, but man, after all that stuff with him and CD Project Red, it really soured him for me.

See, CDPR is a whole different animal. Sapkowski was adament in his books about creating a story based heavily on Slavic lore. CDPR used general ideas of that, but wanted to make a game that would appeal to wide masses. It's very hard to find a market for legend and lore than isn't ancient Greek, Roman, Egyptian, Japanese, or Norse. Slavic doesn't really fall into that category of "well known."
