Walk down the right back alley in Sin City, and you can find anything...
NECA Sin City Series 2: Full Set
Price: 129.98$ Delivered
Purchased from: www.toynk.com
Black and White "Cut" Marv
"I check the list. Rubber tubing, gas, saw, gloves, cuffs, razor wire, hatchet, Gladys, and my mitts"
Size: Roughy 7" Tall
Accessories: Hockey Gloves, Razor Wire, "Gladys," interchangable hands
Packaging: Clamshell
Review: This figure is supposed to be a black and white version of Wizard World's "Cut" Marv, which is in color, but it turned out as so much more. The gloves make this figure, and set it apart from the other Marv figures in the collection. With the Gloves, and wire, your Marv collection has every accessory he needs to take down Kevin, except for the rubber tubing. If you already have the basic Marv from series 1, there isn't much of a need for this one, but as a completist, I am very satisfied with it.
Pose: 8/10- I feel they could have changed up the pose a bit for this version of Marv, but generally it works, especially if posed with the gloves and wire.
Accessories: 10/10- They mixed it up a bit on this figure. The Wire and gloves make it a must have for me.
Articulation: 5/10- NECA like McFarlane, is basically a collectibles company. If you're looking for a real "action" figure, you'll probably be disappointed. Ball jointed head and shoulders. Cut waist, elbows, hands and knees.
Paint Application: 10/10- Generally looks true to the movie. Black and White figures are hard to screw up paint-wise.
Overall: 8.5/10- Not the best Marv Figure, but a step up from the first version in series 1 in my mind. You will be seeing the Ultimate Marv Figure in a few minutes.
Black and White "Bloody" Marv
"I'll stare the bastard in the face as he screams to God, and I'll laugh harder when he whimpers like a baby. And when his eyes go dead, the hell I send him to will seem like heaven after what I've done to him."
Size: Roughy 7" Tall
Accessories: Kevin's severed head, Saw, Cuffs, Interchangable hand, "Gladys"
Packaging: Clamshell
Review: This is far and away the best figure of the Marv character. I was impressed by the color version from the San Diego Comic Convention, but this one looks even better. The blood stands out well on the black and white color scheme, and the figure generally looks sharper.
Pose: 10/10- This figure needs no articulation, the pose is perfect.
Accessories: 10/10- Severed head, hacksaw, Gun, and handcuffs... what more could you ask for?
Articulation: 6/10- Not much in terms of movement, but you really don't have to move this one around. Ball jointed head, ball jointed shoulders, cut wrists, waist, hands and knees.
Paint Application: 10/10- The red really stands out on the black and white colors. It stands out a lot in your display.
Overall: 10/10- Despite the lack of articulation, this figure is nearly flawless. My personal favorite in the Sin City series thusfar.
Kevin(Black and White & Color Versions)
"He never screams. Even after the dog has its fill and his guts are hanging out, he never screams."
Size: Roughy 6" Tall
Accessories: Sledgehammer, interchangable hands
Packaging: Clamshell
Review: Kevin was one figure I was disappointed with in the series. It looks fantastic, but it has to be one of the biggest pains in the ass to stand. They should have provided a stand for him, as it is a balancing act just to get the bastard on his feet. Other than that, and the fact his glasses are a bit crooked, it is an excellent figure. .
Pose: 7/10- The pose is a bit bland, either way you want to do it, not to mention he looks like he is throwing up gang signs.
Accessories: 8/10- Not much more Kevin could have come with, but the Canadian Convention exclusive has a victim head, so another one of those couldn't have hurt.
Articulation: 5/10- There is basically no articulation from the waist down, and the little there is on the upper body is basically used to balance the figure. Ball joint neck, cut shoulders, elbows, wrists, waist, and slight movement of the feet hindered by the pants.
Paint Application: 10/10- The Paint applications on these figures continue to be strong.
Overall: 8/10- Kevin could have been a bit stronger of a figure. The pose is a bit weak, he doesn't stand properly, and he is lacking in the accessory departement. However, the paint is nice, the sculpt is nice, and the facial likeness to Elijah Wood is superb.
Shellie(Black and White & Color Versions)
"Somebody? Jackie Boy, it's a regular African love-fest in here. I got me all five starters and half the bench of the Basin City Blues keeping me company. You feel like taking them on!"
Size: Roughy 6" Tall
Accessories: Two Beer Bottles, and a Knife
Packaging: Clamshell
Review: One of the standout figures of the set, Shellie surprises me as one of my personal favorites. One of the better character liknesses, Shellie's figure is spot on for Brittany Murphy... if you can't see that from the pictures, you'll see it in person.
Pose: 9/10- not much better of a pose they could have produced this figure in
Accessories: 9/10- Shellie didn't have an overly big role in the story, therefore I can't picture anything else they could have given
Articulation: 3/10- there isn't much you can do with this figure other than two or three minor variations of the same pose. Ball jointed Head, cut elbows, shoulders, and wrists.
Paint Application: 10/10- I am a bit higher on the black and white version of this figure... the Color one's hair looks a little odd.... maybe too blonde?
Overall: 9/10- Very solid figure. Great likeness, very sexy.
Miho(Black and White & Color Versions)
"Deadly little Miho. She won't let you feel a thing unless she wants you to. She twists the blade. He feels it."
Size: Roughy 6" Tall
Accessories: Two Samurai Swords with sheaths, Bow & 2 arrows
Packaging: Clamshell
Review: Miho is the rare exception in the "Sin City" line in which the Color variation looks better than its black and white counterpart. The blue and red on Miho's outfit contrasting with the dark colors really stands out.
Pose: 8.5/10- Like Kevin, this figure is tough to stand, even with a plastic stand. Not much more they could have done with a pose.
Accessories: 10/10- Miho comes with every accessory you could hope for, except for maybe some ninja stars... but I won't be greedy. The Bow & Arrows is a bit useless, but its nice to have anyway.
Articulation: 4/10- No surprise, this figure is lacking in the articulation department. Ball jointed head, cut shoulders, left elbow, and wrists, and cut at the end of the pants.
Paint Application: 10/10- Both versions look great, the color version is a work of art.
Overall: 9.5/10- Either version is spectacular. Great facial likeness, great accessories, generally a great addition to series 2.
Goldie(Color) & Wendy(Black and White)
"She smells like angels ought to smell. The perfect woman. The goddess."
Size: Roughy 6" Tall
Accessories: Removable coats/alternate arms, and a gun
Packaging: Clamshell
Review: Wendy and Goldie are figures I don't mind having, but the general feeling I get is that they are filler for the lineup that is clearly lacking two big characters.
Pose: 5/10- Not much they could have done with these characters, but I think they could have at least made them in different poses.
Accessories: 7/10- As I said, not much they could do... but I guess the removable coats are good to at least set one apart from another.
Articulation: 2/10- The least articulated figure in the lineup. Ball jointed head, cut shoulders and wrists, more or less a statue.
Paint Application: 10/10- The paint applications still hold up, as they asthetically look flawless.
Overall: 6.5/10- definately the weakest figures in the overall set thusfar, but I was expecting as much. I look at them as filler figures.
Overall thoughts on the series: I am pleased with my purchase, most of the figures are very solid, and make for a great figure collection to a great movie. With more figures, box sets, 18 inchers, and exclusives coming out, the overall Sin City series should be spectacular when finished. I am hoping they somehow pull off a Dwight, and/or Rafferty before all is said and done.
I still feel they have enough characters to make a series 3... even if it means a nancy 2, or even another Marv... I'll take it to get a Rafferty and Dwight.
