Anyone else enjoy Test’s heel run in 2001? For the most part I hated WWF guys joining The Alliance, but he’s one of the few guys that I felt it worked out well with (along with Christian and Regal). He lacked charisma as a face, but I felt he played a great egotistical, slimy heel who tried intimidating women and bullying smaller guys.
They also booked him super strong once he turned heel with wins over guys such as The Rock, Jericho, Taker, Kane, and Edge, to name a few. His “big boot” finisher was one of the nastier looking finishers at the time (in a good way), had a great look, and a great theme song (before they changed it to a worse theme in 2002). It seemed like they would finally try Test in the main event again after they botched his ‘99 run. Sadly, he seemed to go back to doing nothing once The Alliance angle ended until forming The Unamericans in mid-2002.
Anyone else enjoy this run from Test? Anyone else wish they gave him a try in the main event going into 2002? I know they had a loaded roster at the time, but he was above average in the ring for a man his size and his match with Lesnar at the 2002 KOTR seemed like a preview to a main event run that never materialized.

I preferred Test as a face. He was super hot in 1999 and I believe he may have been more successful had he not turned.
As a heel he was boring.

The 2001 year was easily Test's greatest year in wrestling.
WWE European Champion WWE Hardcore Champion WCW Tag Team Champion WWE Tag Team Champion WWE IC Champion
I mean the guy held the WWE Tag and IC at the same time!!
I remember hearing a story that Triple H squashed Test's push in late 1999 and it was ironic timing that Test had all the success in the world during a time frame where Triple H was out injured.
Test never had that kind of success again.

People usually mention how Jericho always seemed to get pushed down the card whenever HHH was around or on the same brand, but I feel that Test got the same treatment. Like you said, his push in ‘99 was stopped dead in its tracks at the end of the year and he never even got a shot to get back at HHH besides a quick throwaway on an episode of Raw where HHH demolished him. I’m not saying he should have won the WWF Title at the time because that was Rocky’s time, but he should have remained a fixture in the upper card (he could have easily taken Big Shows spot at SS ‘99 for a quick title run before dropping it to HHH at Armageddon). Then in 2001 HHH goes down with an injury and Test is booked to the moon. As soon as HHH comes back in January Test is once again forgotten, and doesn’t even get a spot on the WM card after his strong 2001.

There was so much wasted potential with Test. So much.
That being said, to keep on topic, his 2001 run was great. I legitimately hated him back then.

I heard rumours that it was because Test actually did date Stephanie McMahon in 1999. They broke up and she got with Triple H and it seemed Hunter had this grudge with Test after that. So I am not sure how true all that is. Maybe Test did date Stephanie behind the scenes for a bit in 1999, who knows?? If so, it may explain Triple H's weird obsession with squashing Test.

He was quite entertaining as a heel, he just needed more TV time I felt. What was that funny quote he always said to Stacy Keibler back then?

What was that funny quote he always said to Stacy Keibler back then? “I love my testicles!” I though him and Stacy had potential as well. The problem is they had him entirely change his look and I think it took away a lot of his identity (I heard it was due to Vince thinking he looked too much like Kevin Nash). He looked intimidating with his long hair and leather pants. Once he cut his hair and got trunks i thought he came off as another generic performer, though him treating Stacey like crap was entertaining.

I always thought that Triple H should have framed Test as the driver who ran over Austin (Triple H was at the wheel, but both had long blond hair and a goatee), plus Trips wanted Stephanie so it made sense for him to try to in storyline "bury" Test.
That would get him more sympathy and then get propelled a bit higher up the card after the T&A tag run.

I’ve always thought this as well. In my head the storyline would have been better this way... Someone runs over Austin at SS. Trips tells the cops he saw Test as the driver, but Vince takes the blame to prevent Test from being arrested. Vince goes to jail, and Test is put in the WWF Title match instead of Big Show. Test wins the WWF Title by pinning HHH with help from Shane. Vince is prosecuted to prevent Test from going to jail and Vince is off TV until after WM. Test and Steph still go ahead with the wedding, and the same events happen with HHH drugging Steph and marrying her first. At Armageddon, we get Test vs HHH for the WWF Title and Steph’s release. DX takes Shane out leading up to the event and it’s Test in his own. Steph turns on Test and DX beats Test to where he’s off TV for a few months. HHH has his feud with Foley, and after NWO Vince returns with video evidence that it was HHH who ran over Austin. Vince then books HHH, Rock, Test, and Foley for WM, with HHH retaining (but no Vince turn). HHH/Rock is booked for Backlash, and Austin is announced as being in Rock’s corner (and everything plays out as it did except Vince stays face for the time being). This way Test is made a legitimate star and can stay around the upper card rather than T&A. After WM he can stay around the IC Title scene and feud with The Radicalz and Kane.
