Been reading up on some of the film's background. There were lawsuits associated with the movie that led to delays which ultimately resulted in no wide theatrical release and doomed it to "straight to VHS". Reviews from the release time frame were pretty positive including Leonard Maltin giving it 2.5 stars lamenting that it deserved better.
Personal history for me with this movie is watching it quite a few times in the early '90s on HBO. I think this followed by Just One of the Guys could be the quintessential 1991 HBO double feature.
