I'm in, too! I actually never watched but a few scenes of the sequels but I don't understand all the grief they received. The first Matrix is still relevant and maybe slightly dated but awesome.
It is kind of crazy that Keanu Reeves is probably more known for John Wick now than this!

The first one is one of my very favorite films of all time. Curious how they'll retcon the Neo death. It's kind of super important to him being the One. I'm not crazy about the sequels. I guess I like the second one better than the third, but I wasn't crazy about where they took the story after the first film. So going back doesn't bother me at all for that reason.

I’m fine with a sequel. I just pray it doesn’t lead to a Matrix Cinematic Universe.

I honestly do not know where they are going to go with this sequel. Although I did not love Reload and Revolutions, the story ended and concluded. I think it would be better to make spin-off like Animatrix. With Reeves and Moss returning, the only explanation I can think of is that the machines have ended the peace and Neo returns from the dead somehow to stop them.

When I heard the news I was confused where they could go with this story. I'd say they could recreate the Animatrix storyline but with real actors, but if they are bringing back the originals..that wouldn't add up. I don't know. Either way, it will be fun to quote this post in a couple years after the film and say how much I hated the new one

Wasn't it slightly open-ended when he died?

No, Neo had to die to defeat Smith. During the fight, Neo knew he could not defeat Smith by fighting so the only way to defeat him was to allow Smith to engulf Neo. Neo and Smith basically canceled themselves out and died, allowing the virus (Smith) to be defeated and the One (Neo) to fulfill his purpose.

Neo and Smith basically canceled themselves out and died, allowing the virus (Smith) to be defeated and the One (Neo) to fulfill his purpose. Yep. The epilogue is kind of where it gets open ended, but the death scenes are not. The Architect says peace won't last and Oracle agrees. Oracle tells Sati it's likely they'll see Neo again. We had no idea what that meant at the time, but now we'll likely find out. It's not improbable that the new version of the Matrix would have a Neo and Trinity program. The Oracle returns, and so Neo and Trinity could conceivably die and be resurrected as many times as necessary inside the Matrix. The catch being that they wouldn't still be alive in the real/machine world because we saw them die. The idea that a fourth film exists kind of makes the ending to Revolutions better imo. It really kind of shows that war is eternal in that universe. Now, that being said, that feeling could easily change based on how the film turns out. It's often tough to revisit films over long stretches of time. For every Blade Runner 2049, Tron Legacy, and Mad Max, I can name you a Dumb and Dumber To, Ghostbusters 2016, and Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Fingers crossed on this one.

The first one was amazing. The second one was average with some cool fight sequences. Third installment just sucked.
That said I'm curious.

Matrix 4 and John Wick 4, coinscidence? I think not John Wick 4 with Hugo Weaving as the main villain confirmed.
