...animal kingdom?
What are the odds out of the ENTIRE animal kingdom, only one (a particular African ape, that became Homo sapien 150,000 years ago in Ethiopia) became intelligent? Shouldn't there have been at least 5-25 intelligent species? That is unbelievable to me.
No, I'm not arguing for the existence of God, I'm just trying to figure this whole thing out.
Yeah, I know other primates and dolphins and such are pretty smart, I imagine dogs are to be "man's best friend," but I'm talking HIGH intelligence. Only one?!

First things first... you nor anyone else will figure this out. No one will ever know for sure. With that said, 35,000 years ago Modern Hominids lived along side Denisovans, Hobbits and Neanderthals. Hobbits lived on a Indonesian Island by themselves and were all destroyed by a volcano. No one has any idea how Denisovans were killed off. And of course, Neanderthals. It is said that Neanderthals could not compete with us in hunting and breeding especially due to the climate change. They just were not as social or intelligent as Modern Humans. It's also said they we bred with Neanderthals and we have some of their DNA in us today. Note these are all theories. Like I said, no one will ever know for sure much like anything.
The bigger question is, why didn't Dinosaurs become intelligent? The furthest they got was wolf like intelligence and they had around 245 million years, primates only had 65 million years to get to where we are now.
An even bigger question, how is life, life? How are we (and all life basically) so complicated and amazing? DNA itself... the brain, organs, and so on. How did this just happen by itself? Think of this... If we found something like a smartphones on Mars, lets say even better than we have here today and no evidence of life, life could not have created it and it's actually life itself for Mars. We would think that is amazing, so insane how that could just have become what it is without any interaction, seemingly by itself. We'll no, it does not even compare to how complex we are, animals are. DNA vs ones & zeros, that does not even compare.
It's all a mystery and all amazing. Intelligent design? God? Natural Selection/Evolution from simple proteins? Keep an open mind and always be curious!

There are humans that eat boogers and are known to say "hold my beer and watch this"
There might be only 1 intelligent species, but we aint it.

There are billions of galaxies in the universe. There is no way only one planet has life in it.

Humans may be the only "intelligent" species but it's balanced out by being one of the weakest. Seriously, what kind of animal can we defend ourselves against without a weapon? A hamster? Squirrel? Cats and dogs could take over the household if they really wanted to. Don't even get me started on birds.
Frankly as humans our ego is way bigger than it should be. We're soft.

We are definitely the most intelligent but definitely not the strongest. I've heard Primates are slowly evolving and becoming smarter such as making weapons and hunting. They're still far off but they are getting there.

But yet we are here, we survived we dominated the planet. We did that by having less strength. We could easily be taken down by predators only IF they can catch us. We used our intelligent brain to outwit predators & prey both in hunting & survival. This is actually fact and not a theory.

As a biologist, I've got to say this is one of the most fascinating threads I've seen on here haha.

I dont believe we do exist in the manner we all speak of. If you were to go into our brains and look around, you would see all the neurons and such interacting and all the processes going on inside the brain but what you would not see are thoughts and ideas. What consiousness does is to unify these actions in the brain to produce a notion of a single self, a unified self that actually isnt in the brain and this unified self then thinks/acts etc. That was the explanation given by the 17th century philosopher, Leibniz and that man was a genius, his academic CV is something out of the ordinary.

We're all just a science project in a big jar on the shelf in some alien's bedroom.

We're all just a science project in a big jar on the shelf in some alien's bedroom. Could very well be but then what about those aliens? Are they the science project of another alien race and so on? One of the theories "simulation theory" where we (our world and universe as well) are all a type of computer simulation and that whomever is running our simulation can be the simulation of another race of beings and this can go on and on, simulation running another simulation and so on. We're at this bottom if it all... thus far that is.

This world was made so perfectly that I cannot deny a high power created us. The way our bodies work to complement each other, the way trees give us oxygen, the fact that if the earth was 1 centimeter closer to the sun we will burn, or the fact that if the earth was 1 centimeter further from the sun we will all freeze. Everything was made so perfectly for us. There are many things that we cannot explain but the existence of God is evident to me.

i think the perception of intelligence by humans has more to do with the human ego than anything. a manifest destiny scenario - we prioritize and prize our intelligence, when in reality it is just our function.
nothing else on earth but humans is responsible for the crisis of global warming. i think maybe we've got a few things to learn.

Still my answer. Look how far we advanced over 100 years compared to 1,000’s of years of existence. 120 years ago we were on horses, only 70 years later we landed on the moon. Went from steam engines to advanced engines run off non oil products. My god, I’m on the internet. I honestly feel like we were put here, and our advancement was aided.

If the human race is the only intelligent species in the universe. Then i worry for the future of it.
