Wrestling Memories: My First Live Show
I am sure my topic for today is one that you can all relate to and that is the memory of your first WWF/E live event. Despite growing up in the UK, the WWE since the early 90s has visited here quite regularly. Actually, up until the last couple of years, where I live currently now, the WWE would come here twice a year! I think it worked out I was able to see the WWE live more than many folks who lived in certain States in America. Anyway, as I have said a million times, I got into wrestling in 1989 and it would be in 1991 that I would get to go to my first show. The UK Rampage was a huge deal here in the UK just after WrestleMania VII. The big show happened in London and was shown on Sky TV and main evented by Hulk Hogan vs Sgt Slaughter in a return match from WrestleMania. I went to the April 25th show that happened in Glasgow, Scotland which was part of the UK Rampage Tour. Before the event, I had no clue what to expect. I was very excited and I was super pumped to see if The Ultimate Warrior would be there. Would Hulk Hogan be there? The Legion of Doom? Bret Hart? A million superstars would run through my head in who I hoped I would get to see. Back in 1991 when this tour happened, I would have been 9 years old. I had no idea what a WWF tour consisted of and I just thought all the wrestlers would be at every show. I had no idea that different towns got different levels of talent and there is no way in hell that back in 1991, Ultimate Warrior or Hulk Hogan were going to be on this Glasgow show. The day of the event happened my parents let me skip school so we could go to Glasgow for the day which was around an hour from where I lived. I had on my Ultimate Warrior jacket, a WWF baseball cap and also an Ultimate Warrior t-shirt. At the time the only place you could get this Ultimate Warrior jacket was from the WWF Magazine and you had to get it from the USA so we got stopped loads asking where we got the jacket. It was a great day and we had fun going for lunch, doing some shopping and so on, but the day dragged as I just wanted to get to the show! My first live event is one that I have very fond memories of. While Ultimate Warrior was not there, I did not actually realize until the event was over as I was so into it. The very first WWF live match I saw was Jimmy Snuka vs The Brooklyn Brawler. It was the following match that really got me out of my seat as it was Texas Tornado vs The Warlord. I was a huge (and still am) Texas Tornado fan so hearing his music hit made me freak out big time. When I think of this show it is not so much something I saw, but something I heard that I always remember. Part of the match saw it go to the outside, where Warlord slammed Kerry into the steps and that sound echoed through the arena and I can hear it in my mind as I write this now. The best match of the night though was The Rockers vs The Orient Express. Royal Rumble 1991 happened a few months prior and it is no exaggeration to say that in the few months that had passed, I had seen the match these teams had about 50 times! It was my favorite match (and still ranks high now) so getting to see these two go at it live was incredible. Jake Roberts, British Bulldog, and Earthquake were also on the card so despite not having Hogan or Warrior, I feel it was a solid enough lineup. The main event was Roddy Piper vs Ted Dibiase and this match as I am sure you would expect was a lot of fun. It makes sense that Piper was in the main event in Glasgow, but man I wish it was Warrior. The match was completely over the top and Roddy was absolutely amazing this night. It was by far the funniest of all the matches on the card and a great way to end the evening. I had a great time at my first WWF live event and am so grateful that my folks took me. I even got an Ultimate Warrior t-shirt and one with the WWF logo on it too as well as a program that I still have. I wore that Warrior t-shirt so much that it eventually just started to fall apart! Going to your first WWF live event is always a special memory and while the main guy I wanted to see was not there. During the event, I really did not care and was on the edge of my seat the whole time. Thanks for reading and I would love to read about your first-ever live event you went to. Also, I still have that Ultimate Warrior jacket that so many people asked me about all the way back in 1991. I do not think I will ever get rid of this thing!

I will never forget my first live show.... it was September 4th 1911. The match was Frank Gotch vs. George Hackenschmidt.
I was in the front row at that show, to watch these two men compete against each other. Just an amazing moment that I am glad to say I was a part of!

I don't remember much about my first live show as I was quite young. I do remember being scared shitless of Papa Shango.

I don't remember much about my first live show as I was quite young. I do remember being scared crapless of Papa Shango. He had a real creepiness to him. I used to think it was funny on WWF Superstars when it would show kids in the audience scared of him. He certainly had a real presence.

I too have this jacket,I think I bought it from the wwf merchandise catalog back in the day.I,for sure will never part with it. My first ever live event was on April 12,1992 in Ahoy Rotterdam,Holland. It was part of the European rampage tour again.I don't recall the matches except for the main event which saw The Undertaker vs SId Justice.I remember people shouting for Hogan, but then Sid took the mic and said Hogan wasn't here. Other wrestlers that were there included Texas Tornado, who was substituting for Roddy Piper,Big Boss Man,the Bushwhackers and Owen Hart.Even the Fink was there! The were lots more, but I don't remember, since it's been 27 years ago. The show lasted 2 hours and wished it would have gone on longer.Awesome first experience with a card loaded with top stars!

awesome thread/post guy! love all the detail you put into these btw. my 1st show was tucson, AZ in late 1986. i lived in chicagoland my whole life, but my parents divorced and my mom/stepdad moved to AZ for warmer weather. in aug 86, my parents said to make a choice and stay or move out with my mom and start school. i was a freshman in high school. i decided to move. my stepdad was kinda trying to be a new dad and whne i asked if we could go to a live wrestling event half hour away, he said sure. lucky for me, my 1st show was a Tag Team Extravaganza it was called, with a bunch of awesome matches. the bigger show in pheonix, AZ got a battle royal at the end with all the tag teams guys. didnt make it to that one, but got the newspapaer ad from that show. my second show was pretty cool too as it was Tito Santana day in Tuscon. he was kinda a big deal out there. that card also had some cool matches like savage vs orndorff when both were just turned good guys. also had kamala vs bundy, and the dingo warrior (he used Scandal's song the Warrior for his music too)! heres the cards: Tag Team Extravaganza! WWF @ Tucson, AZ - Community Center - October 16, 1986 The Islanders defeated Steve Gatorwolf & Chief Jay Strongbow Bret Hart & Jim Neidhart defeated Mike Rotundo & SD Jones (sub. for Dan Spivey) B. Brian Blair & Jim Brunzell defeated the Moondogs Big John Studd & King Kong Bundy defeated the Machines Jacques & Raymond Rougeau defeated Greg Valentine & Brutus Beefcake WWF Tag Team Champions Davey Boy Smith & the Dynamite Kid defeated the Iron Sheik & Nikolai Volkoff Attachment DeletedTito Santana Day! My first live show was a house show during summer fest 1994. The top matches were Luger vs. Yokozuna (sub for Crush) in a stretchers match and Razor vs. Diesel for the IC title.

My first live wrestling show from a major promotion didn't happen until January of 2000. As a lifelong fan, that's a long, long time to wait, and by all rights, it should have been horrible, being a WCW house show in 2000, but in retrospect, I saw a good share of massive names and legends, which is kinda fun now, seeing how so many of these guys have either moved or passed on in life. I've gone through and bold faced the names I'm happy to have been able to see work live in some capacity or another.
Evan Karagias def. Villano IV The Maestro def. Villano V (I remember us joking that Villano IV just went out back and tore a velcro I off of his gear before coming back out) Jerry Flynn def. Bam Bam Bigelow (No Holds Barred, Last Man Standing match) David Flair & Crowbar def. Ron & Don Harris (WCW Tag Team Championnship match) Dustin Rhodes def. Jeff Jarrett (Guitar on a Pole match) Perry Saturn & Dean Malenko def. Chavo Geurrero Jr. & Asya Meng def. Lex Luger Sid Vicious def. Bret Hart by disqualification (WCW World Heavyweight Championship match)

Oh man, I've talked about it here before, and my first show was a barn-burner. Undercard was MEH, but we're talking Boise, ID is Feb. of '88 here. 01. S.D. Jones pinned Luscious Johnny Valiant 02. Outlaw Ron Bass pinned Brady Boone 03. Dangerous Danny Davis pinned Sam Houston 04. WWE Women's Tag Team Champions the Jumping Bomb Angels defeated the Glamour Girls 05. Ken Patera pinned Demolition Smash (with Demolition Ax) 06. The Ultimate Warrior and Hercules Hernandez battled to a double-countout 07. Hulk Hogan & Bam Bam Bigelow defeated Ted DiBiase & Virgil (with Andre the Giant) when Hogan pinned Virgil
Of note: Andre was wearing that famous suit jacket of his that he always wore (the gray plaid one), and some Idaho hick threw an egg at him, which got his lapel all gunked up. BOY, was he hot. He grabbed the house mic and called us all a bunch of #$%&ing pigs.
Also, being winter in Idaho, the Warrior looked like he had a head cold. His nose ran throughout the entire match with Herc. At one point he had a pretty good dangler hanging out, so he wiped it with the back of his hand and tried to fling it out of the ring. Well, it inadvertently went out to the crowd, and a bunch of idiots jumped up for it. I'm assuming that they thought it was one of his tassels.
