In 2013, when Kim Deal left the Pixies, Shattuck filled in on some dates before the band fired or let her go.
She recently passed of complications with ALS on OCT 2nd.
The Muffs are probably best known for their cover of Kids in America, but they had a huge discography of stuff. I still wonder why they weren't ever bigger--Kim had a great voice and presence.

I was talking with Rev. Norb from "Boris The Sprinkler" when the news broke. He was crushed. Very sad news. She was so talented.
