I remember hearing something on here, I think from JokerFC about The Rock wanted to return in 2005 after being away for a year, and it would have been around WM 21. But Triple H somehow got in the way of him renegotiating his contract? Or it run down and there was no offer, or no offer The Rock liked. Something to do with Triple H's politics? That pissed The Rock off for a while and that's why we didn't see him properly return until 2011. Although he did that video/satellite thing at the 2007 HoF? Did I get that right? Just interesting to me...

I was talking on here recently about Rock being a lifer man and how he seemingly showed no interest when his contract ran out in 2004 for a LONG while....BUT It has been said a few times that Rock had been contacted a few times about returning....but the ideas that were sent his way weren't to his liking. yeah apparently ol Champ In law (remember that PJ LOL) was like "f*ck him we don't need him" and that should stop offering him storylines.....

I heard the Rock only wanted to wrestle Macho Man Randy Savage or Sting, neither of which was possible.

I've heard the idea of bringing The Rock for a run in 2005 against JBL. Personally I like The Rock, but I wouldn't of cared to see much from him after 2004. Like a feud with Shawn, Randy, and Edge (More so in 2007/2008 era) would of been the only stuff I would of gunned for.

Savage was utterly broke up by this time...I genuinely don't think it would have been possible aside from Vince's grudge. Remember his "big TNA comeback" in 2004 was it? Whoo boy.

I think Rock/Taker could've been good, then they could've added Randy to either the MITB match or to Triple H/Batista

I can see the Rock as a guy who remembers where he came from. Even though the fans crapped on his original gimmick, the also loved and supported him a few years later, even as a heel and helped push him towards a face run. He got over mainly based on his own talent but also because the fans were willing to get behind it. A guy like Triple H, almost always got over because of who he could befriend at the time. I can see Rock being humble enough, having earned everything on his own, to be willing to come back to WWE time after time. Even his own father and heritage could not get Rock over, it was his talent. I can also see Triple H being totally jealous of Rock and trying to be an obstacle to bringing him back, especially in 2005 when the "Legends" or "Homecoming" type shows really weren't a big thing at the time. Now I think Triple H probably realizes how much WWE needs Rock more than he needs them. I would even say that Rock himself is much more famous than WWE as a company and I as a fan I would be happy about that being true.

I heard the Rock only wanted to wrestle Macho Man Randy Savage or Sting, neither of which was possible. Sounds like the Rock was a diva only wanting to return if he could wrestle (and more likely beat) two more of the all time greats in Sting and the Macho Man. If he really loved wrestling and wanted to come back he’d have been willing to work with anyone. But it sounds like he too had an agenda for himself. And there’s nothing wrong with that because everyone in the business does it. I just find it funny when Triple H is accused of back stage politics he was burying everyone. But when Rock or Austin did the same it’s acceptable with everyone. I am certain back during “Triple H’s Reign of Terror” he had no more power than any other wrestler during their reign at the top. Hell he probably had less because Vince didn’t want Stephanie dating a wrestler. So Triple H probably had to prove himself to Vince even more than others.
