I know this is probably asked a few times every year, but I'm going to meet Goldberg next week and am getting my Universal replica signed. I'm trying to decide what type of marker to use on the strap. I was leaning toward a plain gold sharpie. I've seen some use paint pens, but I've seen good and bad results with those. Was wondering if anyone had any tips/experiences and maybe you could share some pics of the belts and what pen you've used at signings? Thanks.

I've used a silver sharpie on my replica. I'll try to find some pics to post here.

I used the following:
1) blue paint pen on my WWE Title (for AJ Styles) and Smackdown Women's title (for Bliss and Becky). AJ's looks good from certain angles. Otherwise it just sort of gets loss because of the shade. When you put it in proper lighting, it looks great though.
2) pink paint pen on my Raw/Smackdown custom title (for Bliss). it came out good.
3) silver sharpie for my two WCW titles (for Sting and Goldberg). They came out great.
4) silver and gold sharpie for my WCW cruiserweight title (for Chavo and Mysterio, respectively). Gold looked a whole lot better
I don't think it matters whether it's a paint pen or a regular sharpie. I think its more about the color. Had I used a white, silver, or gold paint pen for AJ Styles, I think it would have popped more.
For the red strap universal title, I'd go with Black. If you're able to let it dry before folding it or carrying it around, stick with a paint pen. It has to dry first, otherwise it will smudge.

I'd recommend going paint pen over Sharpie, personally. For figures or replica belts. It's almost always going to create a thicker, more pronounced, signature. You just have to be careful with the signature until the item dries, which honestly doesn't take very long. I have a WWF Title signed with silver paint pen and it pops quite a bit more than the signature I have on a US Title that was done in silver sharpie.
I'm sure the gold will look good with the plates. I'd probably just go with black pen because of the contrast with the strap but it's really just down to whatever you like.

An oil based paint marker, water based ones are horrible.

I use paint markers. They make the signature stand out more
