I’m watching Raw from 1997 and this guy I don’t remember called The Patriot comes out to some familiar music. Kurt Angle’s music! This was weird because it was a year before Kurt’s debut. So it got me thinking, were there any other themes that have been recycled over the years?

It was always The Patriots music damnit!
Rock n Roll Express used The Rockers theme for awhile. Of course the most notorious is always Hulk Hogan using Windam & Rotunda's Real American

Some off the top of my head...
Max Moon's theme was recycled for the midgets in the late 90s
Buddy Landel used Flair's WWF theme at IYH 5
Executioner used Papa Shango's theme in 96
Too Much used Kama's theme during late 90s
Bad Blood 97 theme became Steve Blackmans first theme

Fun topic!
The Patriot actually debuted in the summer of 1997 so he was using that theme almost two and a half years before Angle.
I always found it strange how after losing to Lawrence Taylor at WrestleMania XI, they turned Bam Bam Bigelow face and gave him a recycled version of LT's theme.
They reused that stereotypical Orient Express theme for nearly every Japanese heel who came through in the mid-late 90s.
Brisco and Patterson used "Real American" in 1999-2000 which was cool because the theme made it into a few video games from that era.
Brodus Clay used Ernest "The Cat" Miller's theme and pretty much adopted the "Somebody Call My Momma" gimmick.
When Shawn Michaels first turned heel and was starting out with the "Heartbreak Kid" character, I'm pretty sure he briefly used the theme song that would eventually be recycled for Lex Luger when he debuted as "The Narcissist."
I guess you can even say they salvaged "This Fire Burns." It was initially used for Orton, but didn't really fit his persona so it ended up being scrapped and re-debuted when Punk arrived in ECW.

I believe WWE recycled Ultimo Dragon's theme for Ricky Steamboat when he had his brief comeback run against Chris Jericho as well as any subsequent appearances from 2009 onward.

Hacksaw Jim Duggan used Big John Studd's theme song, just added in him saying "Hoooooooooooo" in it.
Paul Bearer used Papa Shango's theme song too in 1997.
The Heavenly Bodies used the New Foundation's theme song.
X Pac used Mike Tyson's theme just with different lyrics.

Cesaro used a remix of Dean Malenko's theme
Ezekiel Jackson used a remix of the Brawl for All theme
Pretty much every Diva between 04-09 who was there for a cup of coffee used each other's theme at some point.

Sergeant Slaughter also used the Patriot/Angle theme for his match against Triple H at D-Generation X: In Your House in 1997.

I like how Val Venis' is an updated take on Rick Martel's. Or maybe I'm crazy.

When Jack Swagger debuted on the ECW brand, he was using Jamie Noble's theme from when he had his redneck character with Nidia.
Doing a bit of looking I found some others.
Man Mountain Rock's actual theme, was the one later used by Droz and Albert
Both Harley Race and Haku used the royal theme, that we usually associate with Jerry Lawler
WCW ones
Pat Tanaka originally used Goldberg's theme
Sandman's run as Hak had him use Steve McMichael's theme
Sabu's theme got used for La Parka
Both Blitzkrieg and Jim Neidhart used the Hollywood Blondes theme
Rey Mysterio used Zodiac's theme
West Texas Redneck's used Jeff Jarrett's theme from his original run
Hector Garza used the theme of Tex Slazenger and Shanghai Pierce

Two of the themes I most associate with the Hardy Boyz are stock music (their most common theme, as well as the earlier one used when they were paired with Michael Hayes). A lot of mid to late 90s themes came from stock libraries, which is why you'll often hear it on other programs not related to WWE.
Lawler's theme (The Great Gate at Kiev) is the ninth movement of a much larger composition called Pictures at an Exhibition. It's a little over half an hour long, and if I'm not mistaken, is public domain. My high school marching band did a few selections from the piece during my senior year (including the movement culled for Lawler's theme) and it was a bitch to memorize.
