First off, I'm a huge Batista fan and loved his work in WWE. I follow him on all social media fronts.
But even with crossover appeal, and the full backing from WWE, Batista couldn't get the company's desired plan for Mania over in 2014. I'd say D-Bry's connection with wrestling/WWE fans have surpassed Batista's in every way. Fans will chant "YES" for years to come. That said, my answer to your question is Daniel Bryan.
Wrestling/WWE fans: Daniel Bryan
Crossover/Mass appeal: Batista

I think Batista was a bigger star. Bryan got injured shortly after and hasn't really regained his original momentum. Batista on the otherhand dominated the main event scene until 2010.

Batista was definitely up there with Cena as the hottest attraction from 05 onwards up until he left the company. But man, I don’t think I’ve seen a crowd more behind anyone like Bryan since Austin. He was definitely getting stronger crowd reactions. I think Bryan probably had the best story of the past decade, mostly because his success was never supposed to come to fruition.

Yeah but Bryan didn't even last a month lol.
