So my brother and I just had a debate on our recent podcast episode about Ricochet this past week on RAW. We both noticed that Ricochet was doing more ground work as opposed to his usual high flying spots. We both agreed that this is obviously to put some ease on his body.
The argument is this: He believes Ricochet should be known as the high flying AND technical guy. While I believe the casual audience tuning in who are used to his style are there to see Ricochet's fun and unique high flying spots that make him stand out and not his "technical" work. An example of Aleister Black came up where he said that Aleister and Ricochet's team worked since Aleister was known for both, so this is why it will benefit Ricochet to be known as both. I disagreed saying Aleister was the more technical guy while Ricohet was THAT high flying guy which made them individually different, hence making that team unique and different. So him doing his high spots is what benefits him the most.
What do you guys think of Ricochet maybe doing more ground work? Is it beneficial to him? Or should WWE stick with his usual jaw dropping stunts that make him their "Superhero"?
We will be discussing this on next weeks episode with some of your responses!

I’ve been saying this for years about high flying guys. Adding the more technical side of things brings a whole new dynamic and new opportunities for them at the top. Look at guys like Rey Mysterio and Jeff Hardy. Early on they were all speed and air. When they mixed it up, they got to the top. They can mix their matches up more, and they’ll get more longevity from an easier style. Also, the high risk moves are more exciting when you don’t see them every two seconds. The high spots will get you noticed, the psychology will get you over.

I think it's smart to trim down the high flying if only to save his endurance. I'd hate to have him retire early from overdoing it, and no one has performed at his level in WWE before so I'm really concerned for his long-term well-being. I don't really attend house shows anymore, so maybe he's taking it easier on those? I think Ricochet could be the top face in the company if marketed properly.

He has no personality, not a fan of his flips and all that fancy stuff. Not my cup of tea sorry.

I think he’s awesome in the ring. The only thing I think he needs is a bit of actual character.

I think he's been rounding out his game nicely since coming to NXT/WWE. Slowing down a tad and telling a story in the ring, can add years to his career.

Being more than just the high-flying superhero is needed. We don’t want him to end up as just that pre-New Day Kofi type.

I don't really attend house shows anymore, so maybe he's taking it easier on those? I think Ricochet could be the top face in the company if marketed properly. Paralells between Ricochet and Ospreay stylistically right now are very similar, and I gotta imagine for similar reasons. Ospreay remarked he was toning down his high-flying (clearly not eliminating) for pretty much this exact reason. NJPW and WWE house show life are pretty much the two most demanding schedule's in pro-wrestling, and doing those moves every single match was destroying both of their bodies. Unsubstantiated, but when Ricochet first started using the Codebreaker as a secondary finisher, the rumours were he did it because doing the 630 every single night was starting to lead to too much pain and discomfort. Evident by the amount of KT tape he had on. The high fliers are so co-ordinated and fast, that learning to be very entertaining in a catch-style is typically not too difficult, since they can use the speed and co-ordination abilities to take that to another level as well. Ricochet is definitely a mega-star, especially with the kiddos, but dear god they gotta find a way to teach him how to use a mic. It has nothing to do with scripted or unscripted promos, his mic skills are cringe-worthy.

He needs some character development. He wears flashy gear and does cool moves but who is he and what is his story?
Give him mic work and help him expand his character.

For him to change up his style, wouldn't there need to be a character or injury explanation to make it palatable as a change? As a kid, and now, I love the flippy stuff!

They shouldve put him and TJ Perkins in a tag team and bring back their Prince Puma and Puma gimmicks.

Ricochet should stick to high flying. I want more defined characters in WWE. I don't like big guys doing flips and I don't like little guys displaying huge strength. What's the point if everyone's the same?

If you saw Ricochet on a smaller indie that is more of the style he would wrestle, same as the NXT house shows. You can’t go like that all the time your body will be finished.

whatever extends his career and I hope the best for him and loved his work since PWG but he is so bad on the mic he needs to work on that the most.

Thanks for the replies guys! We will be discussing this tomorrow night on the show! It's great to hear everyone's opinion on the matter. It is a fact though that Ricochet has the tools to be one of the top guys on their roster and they need to do more with him down the line improving in other departments. So we shall see where it takes him!
