Even watching this I now recall getting a phone call from my friend so excited “dude they showed Chris Benoit and a new Jeff Hardy figure on raw!!!” haha this brings me back. what a wild commercial, with the boss going to get some on the side. |

It's worth it even if you just use the parts for making your own playset/diorama, the lockers are my favourite bit

My favorite playset. I always wanted it when I was younger. By the time I got into wrestling, it was at retail. My parents were also very against online shopping. I met my best friend in 6th grade and he had it. It blew my mind! I always wanted to go to his house to play with it. I got the OG elimination Chamber playset, and traded it to him.

I think it is worth it to buy it if you really want it. I remember you getting this as a kid and I still have it somewhere in my parents house, but my favorite part was the soda machine and how the three little cans came out.

I remember a commercial for this airing during raw and the entire AFR forum went crazy because it showed a still shot of the first jakks Chris Benoit figure! We had no info on its release or anything it just popped up and everyone went crazy getting still shots and everything (it was rebellion series 1 Benoit). I sometimes miss the times before the internet I remember that! To stay on topic, I'd say not worth it. The R3 backstage played was bigger and better. You could also conduct a better backstage playlet using a bunch of the grapple gear packs (APA set, the one with the breakable window, etc etc) |

I miss that board, I actually remember everyone going nuts over this set and when the first posts about people finding Rebellion 1 Benoit. Amazing figure for the time! Ahh, yes. Such good times. I would definitely buy this again, if I can find one complete. I don't understand why Mattel doesn't put out play-sets like this. They sure don't make em' like they use to! I've always just assumed it's because of the de-emphasis on backstage debauchery compared to the era when all these playsets came out. There's a lot of stuff Jakks did that I wish Mattel would do and these kinds of sets along with weapon packs are right up there. Rebellion 1 Benoit was like original unicorn, had to have it TTL figure. I remember my buddy getting one because his dad found it for him on a business trip. I ultimately got mine on a January night after I convinced my dad to pick up Domino's after basketball practice (that was my trick to getting to go figure hunting, because we had 10-15 minutes to kill so I'd go look at toys r us next door). Believe it or not a few of the figures in rebellion 1 were sought after. Anyone who missed out on TTL 6 Jeff wanted the Jeff, and anyone who didn't get House of Pain Undertaker or Rock wanted those guys respectively. One of the most unfortunate things about that line was they they didn't have the jointed elbows despite so many series of figures having them. |

Got this for my birthday in 2001 off of my dad. It was the best play set to play with as a kid, your imagination could run absolutely wild with it. So many gimmick matches done with this for me, I freakin' loved it. I had it up until I sold all my figures when i went to high school. Give me this over the real scale rings and stuff any day. I remember passing on the Hall of Pain I believe it was called when my mum offered to get me it for Christmas 2002 strictly because I had this. As a kid passing on toys, that must tell you something haha.

Maybe my favorite TTL figure ever now that I'm really thinking about it. It was basically perfect except for the arms being unjointed. Anyone who missed out on TTL 6 Jeff wanted the Jeff, and anyone who didn't get House of Pain Undertaker or Rock wanted those guys respectively. One of the most unfortunate things about that line was they they didn't have the jointed elbows despite so many series of figures having them. I never knew those Taker/Rock figures were sought after, that's kind of wild. Man, I miss those days. |

Also helps keep my memory sharp..it's insane how many of these insignificant details I can recall almost immediately. Figure collecting seems like such a different animal than it was 10 years ago, let alone 20. I remember maybe a year or so talking about how now a wrestler debuts on Raw or SD! and their figure has been out for months (if not years) because Mattel makes the NXT guys. I think Finn Balor had a figure before he was on the main roster? Jakks made Lesnar pretty quickly (debuted in March or April 02 and had a figure by late October), but people don't understand the struggle of not even having a figure of the main guy in WWE. Edit: the situation with Sheamus (world champion x2 and main heel) in 2009 and 2010 was even worse...especially since he was a difficult guy to customize because of his skin color. |

I know exactly what you mean with Benoit, it sucked that you couldn't do the crossface because of those stupid non-jointed arms. But in fairness, at the time only select figures in TTL 6, TTL 7, Double Slam 5, ROTR 2 and House of Pain (IE the 2000 holiday production) had the jointed arms so it wasn't as egregious as it seems in retrospect. Only figures I remember it really sucking for were TTL 8 Hardys, TTL 10 Austin & Billy Gunn (more so Austin because he couldn't do the stunner as well as the HOP figure), and ROTR 4 Regal. When you're a kid part selection is neither here nor there, but that became a much bigger deal when RA's were out...at least it was much easier to fix by then. In 2001 I learned how to do head swaps and peg joint swaps...only problem is that TTL head peg constantly broke and got stuck inside the head. I became so envious of those who had a mint rebellion 2 Undertaker (and honestly a complete undertaker with the correct parts alluded me until PPV 7 Summerslam 2004 Undertaker). My Rebellion 2 undertaker's ponytail fell off from removing his shirt (I was 11 so I didn't understand superglue wouldve fixed it...regular elmer's glue wasn't working lol), the shirt ripped from taking it on and off, so then I eventually swapped the head with that incredible longhaired head on the TRU Signature 6-pack...only problem was the headpeg broke and got stuck inside the rebellion 2 head when I went back to swap the heads after Taker cut his hair in late 2001. With regard to Rock and Taker, again it's all context for the time period and the supply/demand. House of Pain Rock was the first and only full ring gear, real scan Rock available at the time (also came with those awesome detailed "People's Elbow" elbow pads). TTL 4, 5, 6 all were in street clothes. There was a very early TTL (I think Raw heat and some boxed set) ring gear Rock's but they had no knee/elbow pads, the generic boots, and the other generic early TTL parts (and would have been wearing old attire by 2000). DS 5 Rock had the real scan, specialized boots, elbow/knee pads...but had a molded on shirt that he never actually wore. Rock, HHH, and Undertaker were also short packed in the HOP box...X-Pac and Tori had the greatest amounts, then Austin. That Tori became very sought after years later, but was a total peg warmer at the time. House of Pain Undertaker was the first American Bad Ass Taker. TTL 5, while real scan, was the prince of darkness figure that got rereleased in CS 3 and in other variations. TTL 7 came out a little after but didn't have the same distribution and had a molded on coat like HOP (except it didn't have the removable bandana, which to my knowledge is the only figure to have until a later CS). I'm pretty sure the Back in the Ring boxed set (K-Mart exclusive) and the Ringside Chaos figure (same as back in the ring, and had limited distribution) came out after House of Pain. I'd equate the Rock/Undertaker HOP and Rebellion 1 Benoit situations to the Mattel Series 7 Sheamus. The first one, everyone wanted it. Hard to find and expensive...but ultimately they started cranking them out to the point where they warmed pegs. |
