I was born in ‘84.
To me 90-99 WWE had so much to talk about and seemed like it went on for 25 years. The fact that Hulkamania, Montreal, Austin 3:16, and dx were all in a span of 10 years blows my mind.
However the last 10 years will be looked back on as a quick decade of John Cena. Eddie was already gone, so was Benoit in the 00’s.
Is that because as we age years go by quicker? Does anyone else feel the same way?
In conclusion I say the 2010’s was the worst decade for WWE.

totally agree.
PC/counter culture and PG era plus the internet really killed the magic...
we lived in a world where wrestling was cooler than UFC...

Vince reverting back to a tired "Hulk Hogan" kid-friendly model with one top guy and not developing and investing in other stars sucked.
Their dependence on John Cena sucked.
Their dependence on the Rock sucked.
Their dependence on Brock Lesnar sucked.
Their mishandling of Daniel Bryan sucked.
Their mishandling of CM Punk sucked.
Their miscasting and mishandling of Roman Reigns sucked.
Creative and long-term booking sucked.
Commentary sucked. Troll Cole, Fox prop JBL, and Jerry "MR" Lawler especially.
The PPV names sucked.
The entrance stages sucked.
The championship title designs sucked.
The mishandling of Taker's Streak sucked, from the missed opportunities, lackluster matchups, and ultimately the sacrifice of it in order to eventually put over a Superman punch-throwing bum.
Hoarding guys and gals just to keep them from working elsewhere sucked.
The random act of taking away and giving back parts of talents' names sucked.
Selling Wrestlemania and other big shows on pomp alone and throwing celebrity after celebrity in there to attract the general media sucked.
Vince selling out his company to become an accessory in a corrupt foreign government's efforts to spin good PR for itself sucked.
The lack of brand differentiation when it should have sucked.
The fact that a wide majority of NXT call-ups have been ruined on the main roster sucked.
The downfall of their physical media offerings in favor of their precious network sucked.
Z-paks sucked.
New Day... didn't suck.
And worst of all, Shane McMahon sucked.

The 10's IMO were far better than the 00's but had nothing on the 90's.
Wrestling in the 90's was pure magic.

I think it really is based on how old you are when something happened.
My dad (before he passed away) told me how great wrestling was in the 60s and 70s, with Sammartino, Kowalski, Watson, Yukon Eric, LeDuc, and others.
For me, it was from Hogan winning the WWF Title until when HBK retired in 2010.
Everyone is gonna find a certain era to be "the best" just for personal and nostalgic reasons.

And here I am thinking every decade has has some great stuff and some not so great stuff. I don't need to compare decades, I just enjoy what I enjoy.

To put it simply, and to avoid repeating everyone else, I became a fan in 1989 and stopped watching regularly in 2014, in favor of watching every WWE, WCW and ECW ppv in chronological order. That should tell you which era I think is better.

It’s partly because time passes faster the older you get, partly that WWE has no reason to change things up, and partly the continued rise of “waaa I hate this so much I’m going to watch it religiously just to complain about it” culture dictating that we must enjoy it way less.
In the 90s, the roster churn was a lot faster. Two or three years was a good WWF run. Look at the roster in 1995, how many had been around in 1990, and how many would still be around in 1999? Compare that to 2015, where so much of the talent were there in 2010 and would still be there in 2019.

I think a big part of it is guys are staying where they are longer. Same company, same gimmick, same spot on the card. I remember when they made a big deal of Taker being in WWE for a decade. These days it’s like you blink and someone has been there for 15.

These days it’s like you blink and someone has been there for 15. And a big part of top guys staying put is there is has been really nowhere else to go for 15+ years. TNA, ROH, The various Japanese companies, etc.. were never a real alternative. The guys who would jump ship were rarely top names. In the 80's and 90's, you had somewhere else to go to get a fresh pop and some new life to your career. And with few exceptions mot the top and upper mid crew did just that. Things are only recently changing in that regard, and it is still to be seen how much staying power AEW is going to have.

I think wrestling has always followed culture pretty closely. and we’re currently in an era void of creativity - from movies to music. there’s of course exceptions, but we’re living in the land of the remake also, rkfastmo, excellent post

It's sad that to me Late '94-February '96 was more entertaining that 2015-2020. Thank god my Grandpa miraculously got the Sunshine Network on his Satellite all the way up in Ohio and I watched ECW that way.

From an actual WRESTLING stand point, the modern era is far better imo.

From an actual WRESTLING stand point, the modern era is far better imo. Very likely that might be true. But that isn't the be all and end all success of it. You have to bring the viewers eyes to the product and the matches are a big part of it. But the story telling and the promos are a HUGE part too.

Wrestling overall was more fun in the 90s. But the quality of the actual wrestling is much, much better in the 10s. I'm personally more about the 00s though. That 2005-2006 era with Edge as the main heel was beautiful.
