If you got to draft your "perfect" SNL cast using everyone who has ever been a cast member, who would you choose? You would have 15 cast members. As well as who would you want running your update desk?

Honestly, aslong as Kenan Thompson, Bill Hader and Nasim Pedrad are there, I'm gonna have a good time.

For me, Norm is a must for Update! I like Amy/Tina/Seth/Colin/Che/Fallon but that chair belongs to Norm, for me!

Oof, let's see...
Dan Aykroyd Dana Carvey Chris Farley Will Ferrell Tina Fey Darrell Hammond Phil Hartman Jon Lovitz Norm MacDonald Kate McKinnon Bill Murray Mike Myers Amy Poehler Adam Sandler David Spade
Rachel Dratch Leslie Jones Chris Rock Nancy Walls Tracy Morgan Rob Riggle Tim Meadows Colin Quinn Molly Shannon David Koechner Seth Meyers Bill Hader Gilda Radner Andy Samberg Rob Schneider Chris Kattan Julia Louis-Dreyfus Chevy Chase Jane Curtin Eddie Murphy
This was tough. The bold list ultimately wound up being my keepers, and the second list were cuts I had to make from my first list. Some particular ones that hurt to cut were Curtin, Radner, Kattan, and Chevy. If I did this tomorrow it might change. Not an easy thing to curate. I'm putting Poehler and Fey on the desk, I think. No, Norm. No, Tina and Amy.

Will Forte is my pick for most underrated cast member of the past twenty years. If the sketch revolved around him he'd make it work. Comedy's subjective so naturally people will disagree, but I just wanted to specifically mention him because I don't know how many else will (and guys like Hartman, Hader, Ferrell, and Farley are going to get their props).

I know a lot of people don't like current day SNL but I think McKinnon is amazing! So versatile! Can play a normal/average person and can play wacky, off the wall characters, a great addition to the cast! I realized too that my sense of humor and the people I really like are not a universal thing. lol I think my SNL would end up a lot different than most people's based on the other lists in this thread.

One of my favorite aspects of SNL, going all the way back, has been their political satire. I'll be the first to say I loathed Kate when she first came on...Amy was Hilary to me, and I wasn't willing to accept a new take, and I didn't particularly care for hers. FWIW, I tend to see things in this respect a lot, as I feel like a lot of people manage to own their political impersonations, and I'm uncomfortable seeing others take them on (another that sticks out to me is Forte's George W. against Will Ferrell's timeless take), save for when both nail it, like in the sense of Hartman and Hammond both having stellar Bill Clintons. But yeah, back to Kate...this administration and political season has been so, so, so giving to her. Not to diminish how she took on Kellyanne Conway and Jeff Sessions (a personal favorite), but she has, as far as I'm concerned, cemented her place in SNL history with her recent takes on Elizabeth Warren. Even if Warren disappears into the ether after November, she'll have made that as timeless as Tina Fey's Sarah Palin.

It takes me a while to "get used" to someone else playing an iconic role such as Hilary or George W. I felt/still feel the same way about Alec Baldwin. Darrell Hammond is always going to be Trump to me. I feel Hammond does the best impression of him and had played that role for so long before Baldwin got there. I agree too! She has come out looking the strongest, to me, out of any player this political season! She has gotten so much character stuff to sink her teeth into. Once they realized what they wanted to do with the Kellyanne Conway character (because they do have a huge turnover in how they felt about her and portrayed her) she has been amazing in that role! Sessions is great! And yeah, her Warren stuff is so good to me! And I agree! It reminds me a lot of Fey's Palin, in how I think, people will remember it!

I know it was just a guest spot, but an unsung take on a figure in the 2020 race that I'd love to see back, especially now that the individual being portrayed has endorsed Warren, is Lin-Manuel Miranda's Julián Castro. He seemed like he was having so much fun with the role, and that he "got" the character. I think if Warren goes deep enough to name Castro her VP pick (as I suspect Castro is hoping), it would be the prime opportunity to pull him back in - especially since he'll have his name attached to a film right around the time that a candidate should be more clear.

That is something I like about Lin-Manuel in general. Any time I have seen him on a show/awards show/talk show, he seems to be loving it and having the time of his life. Seeing someone have that much fun, makes me automatically kinda like what is going on! I am happy they replaced Woody Harrelson with Jason Sudeikis as Biden. I think they write some decent stuff for Biden, but Harrelson clearly was not comfortable doing it. He didn't really do an impression, just talked as himself and tripped over his words a lot. I know they want that celebrity cameo but I think you can afford to ditch one for a former castmember because you know they at least will deliver! Also I am very happy to see Rachel Dratch back on the show, I will take her back on in any way shape or form!

If I never have to hear her do a Boston character again, though, it'll be too soon. She has a tendency, similar to Ben Affleck, where they both just way overdo the accent, and being natives, there's just no need for them to play it up that heavily.

I'm on the opposite side of the fence. I like comedy that is big and bold and in your face. For me, the more over the top, the better! But I do see where you are coming from though! Are you watching the current season of SNL?

Are you watching the current season of SNL? Not consistently...mostly in clips and such on YouTube, since I'm a cord cutter and can't seem to get broadcast in to save my life. The casts in recent years have really been a mixed bag with me, so it's been hard to buy in as much as I'd like to.

I was curious, if you were watching the season, what your favorite skit had been. I've been told the skits I find the funniest are "weird and not funny" so I was interested in what your taste was regarding skits.

Off hand, some of my all-time favorites have been: Matt Foley, Motivational Speaker Celebrity Jeopardy Point/Counterpoint Mr. Robinson's Neighborhood Toonces, the Driving Cat Harry Caray Church Chat Coffee Talk Sketch comedy, in a bubble, is super, super hit or miss with me. I feel like there's a fine, fine art to having a non-referential sketch work out well (a recent favorite being Key & Peele's 'Substitute Teacher' bits) that, if missed, just leaves it landing completely flat. Obviously, just from my list, referential sketches clearly land bigger with me, but non-refs that land tend to really land.

I was actually watching all the Celebrity Jeopardy skits on YouTube a few days ago! They all still hold-up too! Very funny! I only have seen them through YouTube and DVDs though. That was before my time really. Like, I grew up with the Andy Samberg, Bill Hader, Kristen Wiig cast.
