Now that the new AEW figures have been revealed, will you collect them if they are not in scale with your Mattel WWE figure collection? I watched the video of the AEW wrestlers holding their figures and it appears that the figures may be at least an inch taller than Mattels. I'm sure I will collect them regardless, just because that's how I roll. How about you guys? Will scale to Mattel matter to you when thinking to collect AEW figures?

I will buy the wrestlers I like no matter what the scale is

Scale does matter to me so I would be very curious to see how they display at NYTF this weekend. Not so much with Mattels as they do with each other. That said, depending on accessories, interchangeable parts, and overall articulation might all make me overlook scale. Anyways aren’t the guys in this wave roughly all the same height? AEW isn’t exactly the land of giants.
If Jazwares gives this line the love they give Legendary Series Fortnite figures, then we are in for a treat!

Judging by the pics of them in the basic and elite ring, they look to be in scale with Mattel. If they are, I’ll buy the ones I like. If they’re scale is way off then they’ll be an easy pass for me. Other than that, I think they look good other than the awful ab joint.

To me they’re a separate line, so I will buy the ones I want regardless if they’re in scale with Mattel or not. If they are, I may display them together. If not, I’ll display separately.

Well, mattel didn't really create the idea for an ab joint like that though so I wouldn't really call it stealing. If we go by that logic, Mattel stole ab joints from hasbro, figma, toybiz/marvel toys, etc. If anything, you can say Mattel finally caught up.

Jakks had this same torso articulation 20 years ago.

Scale and style are my two big deciding factors. The style is similar enough to Mattel for my taste. If they're within a passable scale to Mattel - similar to the Storm Hogan and Liger - I'll be all in on this line. If they're noticeably out of scale with Mattel to the point that Kenny Omega is closer in height to The Undertaker, the line is going to be a hard pass. I may grab a figure here or there, but I won't be collecting the line.
The photos shown thus far have me cautiously optimistic.

I hope they are in scale tbh! I would love to expand the roster with everyone being scaled well with each other. I'll be honest the first wave looks so good that I'll buy them all regardless of scale. Though the future waves I'll most likely pick and choose who I get if the scale doesn't fit in with Mattel figures. Bullet Club looks good so far though in figure form.

I don’t personally like this type of ab joint for figures but I get why they decided on it. The company was in a lose lose situation with this joint and had to do something a little different than Mattel. If they went with the elite style then people would bitch that they ripped off Mattel. Now that they chose this style, we’ll bitch about the aesthetics of it. I’m guilty of it. This style is somewhere in the middle of Mattel’s elite and Ultimate line which was a safer choice for them. We as a society just don’t like change but in time we’ll get used to it and shell out our money and still complain. Lol.

I love AEW and I love wrestling figures, so I'll buy any and all no matter the scale. I'd be happy if they were a different scale or the same as Mattels.
I've never understood how some people need something (Edit: I mean different action figure lines) to be all the same scale; seeing an army of figures all the same size looks so unbelievably boring to me, variation makes things pop. People flipping out that the new McFarlane DC figs aren't in scale with Marvel legends is so laughable to me. That said, if these are in the same scale as Mattels (which they look like me), that's cool too!

"in scale" here means differences in both height and body-type. Basically I don't want to see a Kenny Omega as tall as Luchasaurus, or I don't want to see a Young Buck jakked like PAC. That's what I take "being in scale" to be. If they are in scale with Mattels then Kenny better be shorter than Kane. It was a differentiator for Mattel vs. Jakks back in 2008. Mattel Rey was considerably shorter than Mattel Undertaker unlike Jakks Rey/Undertaker, and everyone didn't have balloon arms and thunder thighs. As much as we appreciate Jeremy P being involved in this line, he's also notorious for ignoring scale.

I totally agree with you that I don't want Kenny to be the same size as Luchasaurus. All I'm saying is there were a ton of action figure fans (not here, on other boards, Reddit, etc.) that went nuts that the DC McFarlane line, for example, is a 7-inch scale and doesn't match perfectly with their Marvel Legends. My point is that I like all sorts of scales in general across different lines -- Hasbros, LJNs, Mattels, Charapros and so on, are all different sizes and I love 'em all. I don't NEED these AEW figs to match perfectly with any one scale from another company/brand. We're in total agreement that I want figures WITHIN the same series to be scaled properly against each other. No arguments there at all. Jeremy actually talked about the scale problems with Jakks on his recent Major Pod interview. I doubt it will be a similar issue with the AEW figs.

Even if they don’t match up perfectly, they’re close enough and also detailed enough for me to want them regardless of being completely in scale with WWE & NJPW. But I think they will be

Theres multiple unique parts in these photos, and it's been over 10 years since JP has had anything to do with wrestling figures. Theres more evidence that theyll be scaled with mattel, and with themselves, than not.

I don't play with my figures anymore, so being in scale with Elites isn't a concern of mine. However, as I only display my collection now, if they aren't in scale with one another then that would be a bummer for me personally and might deter me from getting them.

I'll buy the guys I like. I don't follow current wrestling religiously anymore, but I'm a fan of guys like Jericho and Cody and those figures look awesome.
