Fresh off my worst amusement park experience..Disney’s Hollywood studios,. I’m curious what parks everyone has been too and which ones are recommended and which ones are just plain bad.
In Orlando, I have loved animal kingdom and I can easily appreciate the magic kingdom. I love universal. (I’ve never been to any of the water parks.)
I have liked several six flags. I liked kings dominion Virginia. I like canobie lake park, which is local to me.
Star Wars world at Hollywood studios is sub-par. The entire park leaves something to be desired especially compared with the other Disney parks I know. Universals Harry Potter is king imo. Avatar at animal kingdom also rocks. Star Wars should be better. I was mega disappointed today with Disney.
What do you all like/dislike about the parks you know?

I sadly haven't been to a park in 14 years. But I have researched so many and am obsessed with the parks. I have a bucket list of all theme parks I want to visit.

I’m not a fan of amusement parks, period. They’re too stressful to enjoy. The worst is Disney World. It’s the most depressing place I’ve ever been to.

To me it’s a big commitment for a short amount of fun. I do like six flags though and I grew up going to splish splash every summer.

As a kid, (1980s) I always went to Dorney Park in Allentown, PA. An all-day pass was $16 and we would stay until closing. This was way before they put in a water park. In the past few years, I've been taking my nephew. One season pass was $125. Now that I'm older, my back can't take the roller coasters anymore.
When I was in my 20s, I worked at a kid's amusement park called The Land of Make Believe. It was a great summer job, but the guy who owned the place is sketchy as hell. Still.

I only been to Cliffs which is the local one for the ABQ, NM area. It's alright, I can't handle rides to good to be honest. But I always grow a pair and go every couple of years.

The old wooden coasters were the best, the noise they would make is this thing safe that was the mind trip. The two big parks in the uk Thorpe park / Alton Towers. Legoland ,Camelot,Gulliivers world are for smaller kids ,use to take my son to those but now he's big we go to the coaster parks I like to go off season so we don't have to queue for hours like to get me moneys worth cos the wife don't go on anythink so that tickets a fffing waste we have rainy days here to well it is the uk if you book on line a week before and it's pissing down you get free tickets at the end of the season to. I emagine Disney world queueing times are crazy. I also like to be at the front to it's all about the front.

Compared with other parks, Hollywood studios is just not worthwhile. There aren’t tons of rides and Disney always finds a way to piss me off. Like I said, magic kingdom and animal kingdom are similar with crowds, waits, and expenses but at least I come away thinking it was a bit worth it. Universal is a much better setup

Went to universal today. Great place Disney. I went to Disney World when I was 9. I don't remember much of it I didn’t go to Disney my whole childhood and I remembered that my whole life. My son is 9 today and he’s now been three times and he’d better damn remember something for all this money I’ve spent lol. We won’t be going back to Orlando for a while now...Maybe never to Disney again I hope.

So many people in my family are "Disney people"...the ones who go every year, who treat it like a spiritual endeavor, who think every new addition is the pinnacle of achievement until the next comes along.
I...don't get it.
I've been a handful of times, the first around the age of 15, the most recent during my honeymoon at 22 (I'm 34 now). I have a five year old, and in about three years I'd like to take him, but I don't feel this compulsive need to return annually or several times annually the way my parents or cousins do. Most of my favorite attractions are gone now, anyway. I mean, it's a fun trip. My state's February break was always offset from the rest of the world's, so when we got down there we basically had the run of the parks with no lines or waiting, but I just don't get the cult around it.

Do you have kids? So much of this has to do with whether or not you are enjoying the parks with kids and what ages they are. I have had some pretty awesome and memorable experiences at Disney parks when my children were younger. This year for Disney we just did Disney’s Hollywood studios and it was just subpar compared with the others (it was my first time to the park, and I’ve been to the others more than once). My children are 12 and 10 so universal studios has been starting to be more our pace and it becomes frustrating in parks dealing with the Disney type crowds. We have become intimate with the area after having been there several times and I also have known Orlando in my single/dating days as well. I like it. Florida is a second home to me, especially the Tampa area because I’ve lived there briefly and revisited. My kids are starting to just enjoy the beach which is a blessing to me. I’m older now and wishing for some more slow relaxed vacations and besides these few Orlando trips they have been groomed for it so I’m excited for the future Not a theme park - but Disney springs is a pretty freaking cool time and I had not been there before this trip. We went twice this time and I had fun both times

Most of it is just having kids and then having kids at different ages makes you feel it’s worth it to go back. They enjoy different things at different ages and all can be entertained at once which is hard to do anywhere else for a long day. My first trip to Disney I was 23. I went to magic kingdom with my mom and little sister. I did universals islands of adventure with an ex-girlfriend that same year. I didn’t go back until I had kids and my daughter was 7 and my son was 5. We did animal kingdom, magic kingdom and universal studios. We went back two years later and did animal kingdom again and park hopped universal. This time we did Hollywood studios and universal islands of adventure. It’s been fun. We are done now

I have heard that Universal seems to be more popular with a pre-teen/teen audience than Disney World. You took your kids to Disney though, so you sound like an awesome Dad! I am happy you were able to have fun at Universal! And I am dying to go to Disney Springs!

We are done now I think if it were the kids thing, I'd understand more, but that's not entirely it. The first time we went, my parents took a day and got sold hook, line, and sinker on the Disney Vacation Club. Even that year, at 15, in spite of how fun the trip was, I couldn't fathom coming back year over year, but we did. That's sort of how my parents did vacations...they latched on to a "thing", and that's all we did, to the point that every vacation I've taken as an adult has basically been an endeavor in doing something we haven't done before. Wouldn't you know it...my parents are still part of the DVC. My brother and I have both long flown the coop, but they still go multiple times a year. They own a home less than an hour off property, but they still travel there and stay on property. To the best of my knowledge, they either hole up in whatever resort they stay in, or go to Epcot. My dad still thinks I'm buying this off of him one day when he's done using it. Spoiler alert: I'm not. I have a few cousins who are just as nuts about it. They've all got kids, but they carve out time every year to go without the kids, and I just can't fathom that year after year. They're so manic about it...one year, we took a big family trip, and one of my older cousins dragged her four year old along, and just tried to push the kid to go, go, go. By the middle of the first day he was so wiped out that he smiled bigger when I offered to take him back to the resort for a nap and a swim in the pool than he did meeting Mickey. The Disney cult is weird, man.

This. So much this.
I have a freakishly weird cousin-in-law (who I no longer speak to or acknowledge) who said "Every child has a God-given right to go to Disney." And she makes her husband (my cousin) go at least twice a year with their 2 kids. The kicker is, the husband & kids don't seem to be all that interested in it anymore. Adult Disney fans are in a world all their own. They think they're the first ones to get engaged in front of the Magic Castle. Yawn. Or say "When I die, I want my ashes go be secretly scattered in the Haunted Castle." News flash, moron. The Haunted Castle gets vacuumed out every night. Looks like your remains will end up in a landfill somewhere in Florida. But as long as they don't push their "Disney Kool-Aid" on anyone, I guess it's their life to live.
