Just seen the RSC interview with jazewares/wicked cool toys. Glad they are sticking with the "elite" style figures and are staying away from a basic line. I rarely ever buy basics but the few I have are awful with movement.
Glad the price point meets elite quality.

I figured they wouldn't really be doing more than the one line unless the other line was just a 4" version of the big figures.

Their reasoning is great, too. For play and poseability, Mattel basics are absolutely terrible. Their legs not being able to move outward puts a dent on so many things you can accomplish with an action figure. Focusing on the articulation shows how much they care for the line and really makes me excited for its future.

Agree! I like the idea of one main line that is like elites. It keeps up the quality and makes it easier for us collectors to keep up.

Personally, I only collect “elite” style so I’m happy with this decision too. However I understand from a price point why some collectors, parents, and kids could be bummed out by not having a cheaper priced figure of their favorite wrestler. I mean, they are toys after all.

I would've thought some of the announcers and refs could have benefitted from fewer articulation points. Poseability is less of a factor than actual in-ring talent (especially the announcers), plus it should help the cost 'cause I can see many of this subset having limited runs or perhaps being featured in multipacks.

Focusing on the articulation shows how much they care for the line and really makes me excited for its future. I haven't played with a figure since I was a kid. But when I started collecting, this was absolutely the first thing I noticed. The legs are so close together on the basics that it's impossible to do a piledriver, powerbomb, etc, and there is absolutely no give in the plastic. I felt like my BCA's, with all of their glorious limited articulation, made for a more realistic match than today's basics. If I were a parent, maybe I wouldn't be as excited to drop $20 when there's a cheaper alternative, but I still see this line doing well among collectors and still having kid appeal.

It depends - my eldests favourite toys are his wrestlers so he has basics, elites, ringside exclusives, sdcc exclusives all mixed in his big boxes
But yeah - an elite at £20 v basic at £10 a lot of parents would go for the cheaper option

I don't see why you would be happy they aren't making those kind. lol You can just not buy the basic ones if they release them. I am actually kind of saddened they aren't doing any basic line. I grew up in not the richest family so we couldn't always afford the nicer things. So I always think about that. I like that Mattel has a basic line that is cheaper. I think it's a good choice to have a line for collectors that may be $25 but also a cheaper line around $10 so poorer families can still buy their kids some wrestling toys.

The name of the company is All Elite Wrestling. It's not Half Elte Half Basic Wrestling. They should have a spinoff on YouTube called Being The Basic.

Basics are actually the base of the Mattel wwe line contrary to popular belief and they have an easier time selling basics to retailers than elites. It might be something jazwares can look at down the road.

I don’t know if I’ll collect AEW or maybe just pick up the occasional one or 2 but I’m kind of glad they only have the one line. I get Basics are a good selling point for Mattel because parents are more likely to spend 10$ on one figure than 20$ on one. Articulation doesn’t matter to them. AEW is more of an adult/older teen audience I think the one line is perfect.

Honestly a lot of the head sculpts on the basic are better than the Elites. I actually prefer the basic Torso to the Elite, if they made the legs like the Elite, that would be the best figures.

If you’re not going to buy them why do you care if they make them or not?

There will eventually be a "discount" version of the figures, you can bank on that. Every toy company does it. Whether it pops up at big places like Walmart/Target or its dollar store items, it will happen. JAKKS did the same thing with their TNA line.

I have two thoughts on this.
First Point: The truth is that while Elite figures are great for collectors, the basics are what most parents will go for. After all, in what department do we find the WWE figures? So, while there's something to be said for many children not playing with physical toys anymore, the truth is that Mattel is a toy company. Plain and simple. So not having a basic line can limit the accessibility of these figures to lower-class parents who want toys for their children.
However:
Second Point: I haven't actually had a chance to sit down and watch much AEW. But from what I've seen? My maternal instinct wouldn't let a child anywhere near their programming. Besides, wasn't part of the whole mission statement for AEW basically "Wrestling for Grown-Ups"? So maybe not having a specific toy line, and sticking with collectibles is a conscious decision by the marketing team.
Just my thoughts.

AEW has said numerous times that they get paid on their performance in the 18-49 demographic. They’re tailoring the product towards that hardcore fan market, including their shirts, merchandise, and now toys. I love it.

Very happy they’re not wasting time with a basics line. Shoot mattel’s basics pretty much have titantron arms and RA legs making for what could be the most limited action figure out there. I get basics are mainly for kids, but the playability is not ideal. If the leg molds were more spread out and they brought back ankle and shoulder articulation like before I’d probably still enjoy them. Regardless, glad AEW isn’t bothering with them.
