I don't know if you feel the same as I do. But in early 2018 the two things that got me into him (before I saw his awesome in-ring ability) was his entrance music and his cool shorts. Well back in August, shorty after he made his SmackDown debut they changed his theme song to some generic create-a-wrestler shit. Now recently he started wearing regular tights (at least at the Saudi show, that's the only time I've seen him in since joining Rollins.) I assume he wears it all the time now. Seems like they are trying to strip him of his originality. Is it just to make him match with Rollins more? Someone explain this to me because I rarely watch WWE nowadays.

On the contrary. Of all the cruiserweights brought up to the main roster over the years, I'd argue he's been handled the best. Sure it took some time, but he's involved in one of the biggest storylines in WWE right now and was tag team champion with arguably the biggest star on Raw just a few weeks ago. Before his feud with Black, I'd have agreed, but I'm happy with how he's being used.
Spare a thought for the likes of Alexander and Tozawa.

I'm hard pressed to think of a talented and entertaining in-ring performer who could be "ruined" by the gear they wear or the music they come out to. Anyone worth their salt should be able to take goat piss and turn it into gasoline.

You're both right, but I have always appreciated unique ring gear and great entrance music. A great theme song and a unique look are the first things I (and I assume many others) see about a wrestler. Yes he has been treated the best out of all the cruiserweights. Yes he is an amazing in-ring performer. But I would say what you see and hear walking down to the ring is just as important, if no more so than what that person can do between the ropes. It's the first introduction to a wrestler. If it doesn't catch your eye there's no point to it.

FWIW, I've never been too big on Murphy anyway, but I thought he and the rest of that crew looked completely boss making their way to the ring at EC, so if that's the look they're going with, I'm into it.

I can confirm that by putting Murphy in the top heel faction on Raw, having him win the tag titles with Seth Rollins, and frequently booking him to wrestle in featured matches on Monday Night Raw and PPV... Vince is 100% burying him.

The best will be when Murphy breaks away from Rollins in a years time and becomes a huge face as he feuds with Rollins.
But knowing WWE, they will just separate them and forget they even were together and Murphy will go back to feuding with nobody.

I disagree. I think they have given him a bigger opportunity than I ever expected them to give him. I do think yes, his music sucks now. It's not recognizable and doesn't scream "top star." But besides that he's been used the best out of all the 205 "call-ups."

I don’t think they’re intentionally ruining him - WWE just has a bad track record of mishandling talent on the rise.
you’re not the only one to point it out either.

I'm not a fan of his attire change at all. He was the only guy on the roster that wore shredded shorts and it made him stand out with his own unique image.

As a fan of Murphy, i was very happy to see him ditch those shorts for long tights. I get that it stood out but it just looked very bush league to me.

Rumor is Vince called a big meeting to try to figure out how to ruin everything we love. First on his agenda was Murphy's shorts.

Rumor is Vince called a big meeting to try to figure out how to ruin everything we love. First on his agenda was Murphy's shorts. In general, it does seem odd at how many times someone changes their moveset or look, or is written away from something they do that catches on with an audience. If someone gets hot organically, they seem to get stripped down and recast a different way, making it difficult for many to keep up momentum. I'm not saying Buddy's shorts was the basis for any popularity. But it would be something I can see Vince being obsessed with in a dismissive fashion.

Sometimes I really do wonder if Vince is senile, or he totally knows what he's doing and he hates his fans to the point he signs world class talent and has them so absolutely nothing to make every single one of his playthings totally pointless and worthless.
I'll go with the former...

I imagine they made him change his shorts for no other reason than how hideous they were.

Remember when Chris Jericho switched from tights to trunks? Oh man, WWE must've been trying to bury him hard!
...Wait, he was World Champion at the time? Well, crap.
