I was a huge Shawn Michaels fan back in the 90s and I was able to catch the first few years of his return but I stopped watching back in about 04-05. I’ll always be a bigger 90s fan because that’s what I grew up with but I know he had some great matches after his return. So I’m curious as to what everyone here thinks about when his best matches were. Are you more of a 90s fan or a post return fan?

Shawn is one of my favourite wrestlers, no doubt, but I even have to go the 92 - 98 version of him. It's when I enjoyed him the most and was most devoted to watching WWE.
Though I feel his 2002 - 2010 run that he probably did have better matches with the likes of Triple H, Jericho, Benoit, Orton, Edge, Angle, Undertaker and others, the 92 - 98 run was just nostalgic and memorable for me more so than the 2002 - 2010 run.

When I first started watching in '98, he'd already retired - so 2002 onwards is what I grew up with, and honestly, having gone back and watched his original run - as awesome as that was - I think he performed better when he came back in '02. The matches with HHH, Benoit, Angle, Cena etc. were absolutely incredible.

I think late 90s hard to deal with Shawn was full of so much charisma and douche charm. Which is why I loved him. But my favorite matches from him hands down were from 2002 on.

I began watching wrestling right after he came back in 2002, so I’m quite partial to his second run.

92-98 for me. Now don't get me wrong? he had some CLASSIC encounters & performances from 02-10 but 92-98 just pips it for me...heres why.
WMX Ladder Match vs Razor Matches with Janetty IYH 2 vs JJ Ladder Match with Razor @ Summerslam IYH vs Owen vs 123 Kid IYH vs Diesel vs British Bulldog vs Mankind Matches vs Sid w Austin vs Owen & Davey vs Austin @ KOTR trilogy vs UT but HIAC...whooo boy.
At that I'm probably missing some too...

2002-2010 for me. I liked HBK before, but never loved him. I was more of a Bret Hart guy. But When HBK returned and had his feuds with Triple H & Jericho, I became a fan. Especially after some of his Survivor Series performances.

Both, can't pick a winner, both have too many great matches and promo's and both are so different yet equally entertaining to me at least to give one run more credit than the other seems unfair.

WM 12 I'm not a fan of AT ALL. But SS92? That deserves a shout. I didn't care for the WM12 match either. 50 minutes of restholds & boredom because neither man could agree on who should take the first fall. Last 8-10 minutes were both men at their best though.

Loved RA Era HBK but 90s HBK was one of few good things about the New Generation Era and was carrying the company

This is a really tough choice.
I consider Shawn Michaels to be the greatest of all time and he put on amazing matches in both eras. However, I feel that he better attitude when he came back in 2002 led to him giving far more to his opponents and as a result, I feel that every single feud he had when he came back was better. His run wit Austin was great as Austin came out on top, but had he not got hurt I have always wondered how long it would have been until he was in Vince's ear about getting the belt back. I have read before he had a problem with The Rock so would The Rock have risen like he did had Shawn Michaels been there to hold him down? His in ring work 92-98 cannot be questioned, but when you look at the way he would not put people over, he lost more titles than anyone else without getting pinned. I just feel he gave far more during his return run.

I think that you could say that the second edition of Michaels has a better resume with many great matches and some great feuds, but I definitely prefer the first edition. Great in ring performer on a roster that often saw him face off against stiffs, and great charisma and a very clearly defined gimmick that fit him almost perfectly. Even if you split both versions of Michaels into completely different wrestlers they'd each be all time greats.

Besides being a great heel during his early solo years, Another reason I really like 90s HBK is Sherri singing his theme. Classic.

Fun fact, I recently found out that Jimmy Hart wrote Shawn Michaels theme. He calls it his greatest accomplishment.

Shawn Michaels in the 90s was peak HBK. As much as I admire his work during his return, he was content to just be a legendary worker. It seemed like overcompensation for his myopic backstage actions in the 90s. He wasn't interested in being at the top of the card, and he was no longer the edgy Boy Toy character. He had a few limitations in the ring, he started to let his personal tastes in clothes influence his wrestling attires (*shivers*), and he got very skinny in the last few years. Yes, he was still the best overall package in the company, he never quite recaptured the pre-injury magic. Of course, we shouldn't have expected that anyway.
