The Dusty one is my favourite - they weren't talking at the time so Dustin pitched it to Vince and just went to town with it. If you get a chance you should read Goldust's book, it's a fantastic insight into his career.

I wish we would have gotten a documentary on him but since he’s in AEW I don’t see that happening anytime soon.

Dustin in 1998 was on fire! From doing various characters of past and present WWE superstars, to doing Dustin Runnels, to becoming Goldust again, all in one year.... amazing stuff!

Wasnt Stevie Richards and Blue Meanie doing this kind of stuff earlier in ECW?

Wasnt Stevie Richards and Blue Meanie doing this kind of stuff earlier in ECW? yep, the bWo did parodies of different wrestling groups. but I don’t think Dustin doing this was a rip off at all, they had their own angle on it and Dustin being a bastard clown is a lot different than the bWo playing college goof offs.

Yea bwo was more of a parody. Dustin was doing something different every week. Plus it fit the Goldust character because he was supposed to be messed up in the head. Even though I was never an ECW fan I will give them credit for inspiring the direction of the WWF in 97-98 so maybe this was indirectly inspired by them.

How about the time Goldust wore a dress and a wig calling himself Oprahdust?

I would think the 1998 dress ups were probably Vince McMahon trying to rib the other wrestlers, maybe not Dusty as that was probably Dustin but the gimmick screams of Vince trying to put someone down jokingly. Goldust was so ahead of his time in 1996 that anything after that original run really won't be as memorable so the direction of the gimmick had to be changed. I think it would have been the same with Brian Pillman, ahead of the Attitude Era but by the time the Attitude Era did come along you have so many other guys like DX, Outlaws, Foley going all out that they would rise above Brian and he would have to change gimmicks or angles again.
