I brought up in the Hennig NWO thread about how Perfect should have won the IC Title at SummerSlam 93 over HBK, but honestly now that I look back at it, it seemed Perfect was above the IC Title at that point in his career.
Would a better person to have won the Royal Rumble 93 that year been Mr. Perfect??
Like in 1990 and 1991, Mr. Perfect and the IC Title fit perfectly. But when he came back in 1992 he was put right in the main event with Savage, Ramon and Flair. He could have easily been the next one to hold the WWE Title if they wanted to change it off of Bret.
Plus we would have gotten Perfect vs. Bret at Wrestlemania IX for the WWE Title, and the match those two had at the KOTR semi finals was amazing, I am sure the WMIX would have been amazing too.

With the POP he got at the Rumble when he came out and then when he threw Flair out, If I was in Vince's shoes I'd call an audible and give em the win haha.
Like Savage, Perfect winning and facing Bret for the belt at Mania would've been amazing and told a great story.

I definitely think he could have had a run with the belt along with DiBiase and Rude like Gorilla said (I'd also add Orndorff and Piper to that list). I think it could have worked in 1993 had they not turned Luger face. I could see Luger beating Bret for the title at KOTR or Summer Slam, then Perfect winning the belt from Luger (to avenge his WM9 loss) and either dropping it to Bret at the next WM or back to Luger, then have Bret beat Luger for the title. At this time, I think a lot of the older wrestlers (Savage, Perfect, DiBiase, etc.) were really there and used to enhance the newer generation of stars. I don't think Vince was ever thinking of using these guys to be the top star of the era. It reminded me of the mid 80s when Bruno and Pedro were still used in the WWF, they were never going to win a belt but they were there to help get over the top heels at the time like Savage, Orndorff and Piper. EDIT: Also, and I have to agree with what hbkbigdaddycool said, that match at KOTR between Perfect and Bret was amazing, I think it should have won match of the year for 1993. |

Mr Perfect is my favorite wrestler ever so I would’ve supported any title runs. I loved his intercontinental title runs and wish he’d have been more in the mix for the world title. I also believe he and Rude would’ve been great tag team champions together.

I think in Vince's mind, all he could see was Yoko/Hogan, no better demonstration of that than the BS finish to WM9. Yoko I liked, but I never thought he would be champion long. By the time he dropped it to Bret at WM10 it completely made sense as they were going with a Bret/Owen fued (which I think was right at that time, given their classic at Wrestlemania). Looking back, I'd chock 1993 as a failure in the title picture as it didn't work with Lex Luger.
To stay on topic though, had they had Bret beat Yoko, say at Summerslam and built Mr Perfect as wanting revenge on Bret for his King of the Ring loss then I could have totally seen that match headlining Wrestlemania 10, but give Owen a role in Brets defeat and then that feud would have started and then you would build Mr Perfects title reign from there.

i woulda chnged things from awhile back.
flair woulda never lost belt, perfect would beat him for it on raw.
yoko wins rumble, and exact wm9 scenerio happens only prefct losing belt to yoko then hogan coming in.
thern i would let perfect win KOTR and match up with lawler at summerslam after being attacked by him.
basically perfect woulda got bret's role!

Agreed and think Mr.Perfect should have had a WWF Title run in '93.When he made his return at Survivor Series in '92 he was one of the most over babyfaces in the company and then in early '93 was the man to send Ric Flair out of the WWF.That alone should have put him in the main event mix.Also during the fall of '92 and most of '93 their was a massive turn over in terms of big named stars leaving the WWF from the golden era with Hogan,Flair,Warrior,Sid,Roberts,British Bulldog,LOD...ect all leaving the company and the WWF at the time was really hurting for star power.Yes they had just made Bret Hart as the champion but besides him you really only had Savage and to a lesser degree Undertaker as proven draws.New talent was being brought in like Yoko,Luger,Tatanka and guys younger guys like HBK,Ramon,Owen...ect where starting to get pushes as well.In '93 Mr.Perfect wasn't to old at all and works in the whole "New Generation" as he was only 34/35 years old and refreshed after being off for more then a year.If the WWE was good with going with Bret at that time and pushing him in the main event and as their world champion Mr.Perfect should have been pushed right along sides him.

In 93, maybe. Then again WWF didnt have mega stars at that time either. Hogan, Warrior, Savage, Flair...they were all gone or in the middle of leaving.

I don’t think he had outgrown the title, because back then the Intercontinental Championship had way more prestige than it does now. And the main event talent could compete for the IC without it making them look like they were at a lower level.

Everyone says KOTR 1993 was created for Bret after the WM9 scenario. It was a good way to keep him strong as the guy and it was of course to be the platform which Bret launched his title challenge to Hogan....But sure Hogan had other ideas....LOL.
