I'm not sure if you mean survived in terms of they would've been financially recked from buying so much or driven crazy by the time periods between sets/issues everyone has identified. In fairness WWF was a lot different then than it is now. If you had Rock, Austin, Undertaker, Kane, Jericho, HHH, and Angle + anyone else you could get your hands on you were in overall decent shape. "are you KIDDING me! ANOTHER austin/rock/triple h/undertaker!? we just had one! uuuugh why can't we get _______(insert person who just debuted on velocity)?" "we JUST got two Benoit figures, why can't we get another Crash Holly?!" |

In fairness WWF was a lot different then than it is now. If you had Rock, Austin, Undertaker, Kane, Jericho, HHH, and Angle + anyone else you could get your hands on you were in overall decent shape. Hahah In fairness back in the BCA days, if you were a kid, it didn't seem out of the realm of possibility that a new debuting wrestler could have a figure next time you went to TRU...routinely happened for the various other shows like Power Rangers, X-Men, Star Wars, etc. (granted those were filmed months before airing). In the case of guys switching from WCW to WWF, and vice-versa, it didn't seem so bad to buy a toybiz figure of Jericho, benoit, etc. or OSFTM figures for wcw/ecw guys. I'm trying to remember if there were any instances were a figure had been made of a wrestler, who left and then came back to WWE or changed and reverted gimmicks, and was still available at retail. Obviously Jeff Hardy in 2006, Jericho in 2007, Chris Masters in 2009, had RA's and TTL's that people on here traded for or took out of the depths of storage, but they wouldn't have still been available at retail. One's that jump out to me are: Matt Hardy (AD 9 or RA 9, RA 10.5, and others may still have been available since he was only gone like 6ish months) Charlie Haas in 2006 (WM 21 was definitely still in stores) Big show in 2008 (he left in 2006 but still had figures being released in 2007). MNM in 2007 definitely (mercury was fired in mid 2006 but then was back a few months later) DX in 2009 (made so many of them may have still been available?) |

It always seemed like they didn’t release certain guys to come back to doing it later but never getting a chance How about some of the glaring ttl omissions? We got BCA versions of Godfather, Dlo brown, Val Venis, Taka - why did we not get TTLs? They never really left tv besides not being used as much - but still Venis was IC champ during the ttl era, godfather was on tv lots he was more over then hardcore holly who got like 4 or 5 figures in 2000/01 On this same note how did get so many Bob Hollys? Steve blackmen’s? They were used the same amount as the other guys Or if jakks mad an awesome mold for someone like Rikishi get ready for like 5 versions of the same figure with minor paint changes I always laugh at the TTL8 and 9 rikishi it reminds me of the simpsons with the new Malibu Stacey “But she has a new hat!” Also how many Triple H in jeans did we need? I think we got like 5 And no Faarooq in ring gear to go with Bradshaw. I always hated that, I don’t think we ever got a ring gear faarooq even in the RA days I also really wanted them to release the entire RTC for my figure fed, instead we just one a Stevie Richards in a suit that makes no sense to just have him as a singles guy lol Still the good memories out weigh the bad but I’ll never forget those frustrations lol There was a proto of TTL Val Venis in RTC gear, and it may have even been on the back card of some figures. Godfather I think had a similar issue as Val Venis. Had he stayed the godfather he would've gotten a figure, but he joined the RTC and went to the back of line. I think to a certain degree Jakks knew RTC figures wouldn't sell well. D'lo was relegated to Jakked and not on TV regularly (if even still in WWE) by the time Jakks starting expanding their production. The excessive amount of figures in jeans/sweats wasn't limited to HHH. We went almost 2 full years with 1 Austin (DS 2) in ring gear. Even Steve Richards was released after the RTC ended. RTC was on it's last leg by WM 17...and the figure came out in May or June 2001. I remember thats why I passed on him. Side note that was such a great heel gimmick. I think one of the main reasons why the Stevie Richards figure didn't sell is because he was alone. The figure was completely useless without the rest of the stable. An RTC boxset or even double packs of the different members would've been a great seller. Back then there were only so many Austin's and HHH's you could buy so I would've happily welcome different guys back then. |

I was just a kid during the TTL days, so it wouldn't be appropriate for me to come in here and complain. Since it was before internet for me, it was a fun time to collect because apart from magazines, the only way I knew what was coming out was the back of the card. However, some of the things you said are dead on. I waited like 6 months of having an Edge figure before getting Christian, exactly the same with the Dudleys. My dad ended up finding the picture perfect boxset and he'd heard me complain for months I had no Christian so he got me it. Bubba I'm not sure which series it was, it was the one that came with the table, I had for ages before finding DVon. My sister bought me the Team Xtreme box set for Christmas so I got lucky there. One thing I do remember was the lack of 2001 era Kanes. Apart from the single Heat one (which I own now MOC) it seemed like there was a shortage of them and he was one of the biggest stars at that time. I ordered mine from our local collectable store as they weren't getting many so were taking orders which at that time I didn't think anything of but I guess that just goes to show you.
TTL was an amazing time as a kid, but I guess it's similar to today's Mattel distribution problems in the UK, a really tough time for hardcore collectors.

It would've depended on when it was released and who else was released in the set and how many per case. Richard didn't fare well because he was new figure #5 behind Raven (one of jakks best figures ever, in a lot of storylines, and a well known wrestler from ECW/WCW), eddie guerrero who had been European and IC champion in the last year and was a solid mid-carder, Perry Saturn (another one of jakks all time great TTL figures) who was in a popular moppy storyline at the time, and Albert who was also a great figure and had been with Test and X-Factor. He also didn't really wrestle a ton and was more so a manager at the time. Then of course the 6th figure was the 2nd Stephanie every released, so that made her a little more desirable too. I'm almost certain Richards also was 2-3 per case. If it was released pre-WM 17 it sells, but after...eh. ROTR 3 was released in a wave with rebellion 3, TTL 10, and FS 3 which had some much needed figures and repaints (first real scan Austin in trunks, the first new attire Kane, first short hair billy gunn, dudleys, Matt & Jeff) and that was on top of or in addition to any lingering or concurrent shipments with the more widely available releases of Benoit, ring gear Jericho, Angle, Deadman Inc Taker, HHH/cactus, etc. |

Since it was before internet for me, it was a fun time to collect because apart from magazines, the only way I knew what was coming out was the back of the card. However, some of the things you said are dead on. I waited like 6 months of having an Edge figure before getting Christian, exactly the same with the Dudleys. My dad ended up finding the picture perfect boxset and he'd heard me complain for months I had no Christian so he got me it. I think Chyna was out of WWE by the time WM X7 hit. That Edge was awesome except for the coat, it's one of the few Edge's to have that cross logo on the front of his tights. While Kane was probably sought after for the reasons we discussed, the set as a whole would fall into the rare plateau period for Jakks. where you'd see/find a new set and it would be of no consequence because it was all repaints and there was nothing good coming to stores for a while. Arguably, summer 2001-Spring 2002 (when UCF came out) was jakks worst period because of how few new wrestlers we got (Regal, Credible, Molly) Austin - repaint Eddie - nice figure but had been fired Edge - good figure but the molded coat ruins it Jericho - molded jacket and relatively boring trunks. That head scan got overused and stopped looking like him after a while. Chyna - out of WWE Kane - See above. That set was also kind of a bleak reminder of the state of the WWF post WM X7, Austin being a heel, Rock being absent, and HHH out injured made WWF really feel lackluster and less colorful. From late 2000 to WM X7, WWF felt like this super well rounded, colorful, exciting show with all these individually big, entertaining stars...then after WM X7 that was just kind of gone. As a kid, was legit disheartening. I also used to do my roster based/feds based on who was on tv (I didn't really use a guy if he was hurt). Believe it or not, Edge went almost 2 years without a figure. He didn't have a single figure made in 2003 and his first figure in 2004 (excluding WM XX TTL which was a flashback repaint) was RA 10 and backlash 2004 (which was TTL) which didn't come out until August/September of 2004. We didn't even get ring hear edge (Bad Blood) until December/January 2004 and he hadn't worn that attire since like May. |
