Focus on current stuff coming out. There’s been a severe inflation of secondary market prices since the start of the coronavirus and they’re gonna keep going up until the bubble bursts. There’s only a few people like Snuka & Demolition & LOD that probably won’t be getting new figures within the next few years i just got Snuka the other day. I already have demolition and Lod so just like you said,.these are the guys not getting figures again soon so I figured it’s better to buy now

I just recently restarted my collection after selling everything but elite Umaga two years ago. I have always personally focused on the modern guys far more than flashbacks, but I was mostly drawn back in by Ultimate Triple H, which is an attire/figure I’ve wanted forever. I agree with others who said that you shouldn’t go back too far with figures because the new figures with the True FX are miles ahead of the figures we were getting just a few years ago, let alone at the start of the line.
The main problem I’ve run into with getting back into collecting is that Elites are more expensive than they’ve ever been. Can’t believe how many figures are going for $50+ shipped on the secondary market when just a couple years ago $40 shipped seemed like the highest you’d see outside of some RSC exclusives. Now some figures easily cap off at $100 or more

I'll tell you what I did last year when I decided to start collecting again. I used the thread that was already posted with Mattel Elites. I looked at, literally every photo to decide if I was interested in the figure. I put all of my likes into a spreadsheet and keep it on my phone. It's been a good way to stay organized when looking for 10 years worth of figures.

Try to get the more recent and a little bit older stuff. A lot can be found on eBay, ringside and here for cheap. When I picked up a bulk of my flashbacks I was missing I took my time and didn’t jump on certain figures. Wait to find deals. You’ve went this long without it don’t jump on the first one or something that you see

Just started collecting Elites myself 4/30/2020 a few things that I’ve noticed in two weeks time
1 look for some of the most recent best of type threads ( as time can change prospective ) to get an ideal of what’s what don’t over react to the opinions but consider them and notice when a particular person has a propensity for a particular wrestler as they may lend insight but always weigh it against the more common opinion That might be inline with your own interest as this may prove to be more helpful in formulating your collection
2 shot a few direct messages to forum users who seem to have a strong interest and or experience w particular figures or talents i was interested in have gotten some knowledgeable helpful responses
3 be diligent in researching your options for each wrestler any can have a disappointing figure or two had a couple mis fires right out of the gate making purchases on a whim before I learned that lesson quickly
4 try not to go down the rabbit hole of too many figures of just one wrestler right off the bat obviously unless your a completist variety is your friend there will always be more releases for most wrestlers
5 whether you like posing or fig fed unless you are MOC only consider articulation there’s definitely some bad out there but seemingly allot of good
6 get ahead of pre orders now of things you may like since prices seem to be through the roof these days even moments after these figures hit the stores which honestly I’m not even sure some are hitting the stores everywhere or anywhere most of the time lol
7 when In doubt purchase a Kassius Ohno seems to make a Great bargaining chip

I have dumped figures a few times. The first time was very difficult. I was at about 800 figures when I sold. But the other times it was far less. Sometimes my boredom made me sell them, other times it was big things that I couldn't afford, car and house being chief among them. What is nice is the hindsight of knowing if they came out with a nicer version of a character later or if a figure was just so bad I wouldnt want to buy it again. Saves me some money. I just go back and get the older ones I actually want.

Personally for me, I started with all the “big money” purchases. Mainly the older legends, RSC exclusives, various flashbacks, and defining moments. From there I’ve just been tying up loose odds and ends of other flashbacks and Such. The most important this to remember is quality of quantity.
