They've probably secretly re-signed him by this point. He could win and use that as a kayfabe reason to stay. Or He's not re-signed yet, and he'll lose the finals. Then as he gets a 'sendoff', Triple H comes out and re-signs him. Similar to the Triple H/Cedric moment in the CWC. Lotto numbers please 3, 16 6, 1, 9

Yay Drake has re-signed! Now they will have him getting beat every week and do silly skits where he'll have to put over a returning Horngobbler and kiss several of the road agents asses on screen and then have him in a bi-sexual, abortion angle with Lana, Shorty G, Clint Howard, John Lydon, the ghost of Crash Holly, Ruby Riot, Greta, and the third string defensive team of the Carolina Panthers.

What a weird situation, but if Drake's happy then good for him. I don't really think the "all a giant work" theory holds too much weight. Why would they run that elaborate of a work for Drake Maverick who had basically zero in ring action so far and is going to NXT not main roster anyways. Seems far more likely he was a) willing to take a pay cut to come back and b) worked himself back into a job. I gotta imagine the original plan was Kushida/hijo in the finals but they saw the momentum and took advantage.

Triple H confirmed that Maverick was officially released because he wasn't involved in anything at that moment. They gave him the choice whether to compete in the CW tournament or not. He made the call to work it. Maverick's post release promo endeared him to the fans so they felt they had to acknowledge it. Drake then made the whole thing work, so Triple H offered him a NXT contract.
I know 90% of today's fans want to be cynical about EVERYTHING, but I like it. The story wrote itself, Maverick delivered, and was rewarded for it in the end.

Good move on them resigning Drake. Was pretty versatile in the roles he had for them General Manager, managing AOP, the 24/7 title, involving Renee Michelle in some of the crazy skits.

Well done to Drake for literally working himself back into a job. They gave him a good chance to essentially audition for every other promotion, and the dude got himself so over in a month that they took him right back. I've been pretty pleased with how much of an increase in TV time the cruiserweights have been getting, even without the mini BOSJ. Was such a good move sending that division over to NXT.

Reports from Alvarez (take it for what it's worth).... "One thing I want to make abundantly clear is that Triple H has no authority to hire or fire anybody, okay. So, anybody who got fired, every one of them, was a Vince McMahon call. And I'm pretty confident, because I've been told this from people, that people who released if Hunter had his way, they would not have been released, and so, they fired all these people and Drake had the deal, and this means by the day, that Vince must have seen his promo that went viral, 'Look at this guy pal, hire him back.' Everything was a Vince call. Firing Drake and rehiring Drake."

LinkAlvarez also said this week if Maverick wins he's re-signed, and if he loses, he hadn't.

Alvarez criticised Mauro’s commentary in the Gargano vs Ciampa fight a few weeks ago. 😂😂😂

LinkI'd rather take Meltzers word serious over a guy who said he didnt like Mauros commentary on a match that had no commentary, and also said how did Otis manage to climb the ladder to grab the briefcase minutes after breaking the steps in a spot where Otis caught the briefcase when it fell out of AJs hands.

Yeah I don't care much for Meltzer, at all, but he's by far the lesser of two evils. I was mad at myself for using anything Alvarez said, but I read it and thought I'd pass it along.
It's obvious Alvarez doesn't watch the shows, just bitches nonstop afterwards anyhow.
